This was our first trip to Aruba, I had read a ton of reviews and had very real expectations. My husband read no reviews but his opinions were the same as all the other reviewers.
La Cabana is doing a great job with renovations, they start a little late in the day to not be to disruptive.
Staff was great.
The inability to get an umbrella at the pool or a palapa on the beach is ridiculous. We did a lot of activities in the mornings, ATVs, Segways, etc and to not be able to sit by the pool after is absurd. It seemed that there is unused space that they could provide more umbrellas, not sure why they aren't. (It did seem that the regulars knew how to get around this, I suspect tipping the security guys would help.)
The bands in the afternoon/happy hour, were good, however they were so loud, you could not have a conversation without shouting. Some nights they were there till close to 11, so dinner at the restaurant was a joke if you wanted to speak to your dining partner.
The timeshare tour took 3 hours. They do provide breakfast (it was our worst meal on the island), but the time spent eating and chatting with the sales rep does not count toward the 2 hour presentation. They did give us the $125 voucher towards a restaurant downtown.

These are the items I haven't seen shared already on here already. I can affirm that the resort/beach/people/island are all great. This is not the Ritz, but it is not a Motel 8. Very enjoyable and we are going back!

Fourth time staying at La Cabana.....You do have to get up early if you want a hut on the beach. Grocery store within walking distance was great. It was easy to take the bus uptown for dinner and shopping.

This was our second trip to Aruba. We stayed on Palm Beach the first time and wanted to try Eagle Beach this time. Based on reviews, we wanted to stay at the Costa Linda, but couldn't get an exchange week through our time share. We decided to try La Cabana and were very happy that we did.

La Cabana is undergoing renovations, which are almost complete. Our unit was very clean and comfortable. The complex is very well maintained. We walked the beach to Costa Linda one day just to see the difference and were surprised how much nicer La Cabana is.

Las Ramblas was excellent.
The pool side grill is your typical pool side restaurant. The food was good, but nothing special.
The pool side bar was very good and reasonably priced during Happy Hour.
We had a full kitchen in our unit, so we ate breakfast and lunch in our room most days and went out for dinner.
There is a brand new, large grocery store right across the main road.

We met many people that have been coming to La Cabana for years and love it. The beach is beautiful and much less crowded than Palm Beach. Pool side chairs or palapas on the beach can be difficult to come by. We went down to the beach between 7 and 8 each morning and were usually three rows back from the water. I went down at 6:45 one morning and was able to get the front row. Since I was awake, it wan't a big deal, but I wouldn't want to have to do that every day if we stayed longer. I could see the seating being a big problem during high season.

If you want more crowded beaches, more crowded restaurants, more high end hotels, more night life, try Palm Beach. If you want uncrowded beaches, friendly people, a very clean, very well maintained resort, try La Cabana.

This was our first trip to Aruba. La Cabana was not bad. The beach was great. The resort was okay, a lot of staging and work going on. Unfortunately, our room was off a a very loud enclosed hallway, so when guests were arriving back to their rooms at 1:00 a.m. to 3:00 a.m. it was very loud. The Island is great, the weather very nice, but a little windy (which I had heard from others). We walked down to the highrise section which was a nice walk. Buses are convenient, grocery store (market place at the resort very limited) quite near. This was an exchange for us. It worked out very well.
