“would not return”
Reviewed 14 March 2014

just returned from a week at La Cabana - the pluses - nice beach, good location, all the staff was very nice and helpful. The cons - the rooms are sub par - in the 1 bedroom the sleeping area is right next to the outside walkway -so noisy and no view since balcony in sitting area which was not all that comfortable. The rooms are not plush by any means so if you are looking for that this is not your place. suggestion: put in a make-up magnifier mirror. so helpful and would go along way with the ladies. The wifi situation is ridiculous! Free option did not work at all. In order to get any access to internet we needed to pay 69.00 for the week- which only allowed use on one iPad - we had two iPads but only one was usable - for that kind of money we should have had access from both - in addition the high speed was hardly that! By far the worst part of the trip was the beach hut and pool umbrella reserving policy. In order to get some shade in either location we needed to get up at 5:30 am to reserve a beach hut. It was still dark out! There were crowds between 5:30-6am when the tagging of huts would begin. Having vacationed in many places with limited shading options - I have never seen anything like this. It is hardly a vacation if you need to get up before the sun to ensure you would even be able to sit on the beach. This was the same at the pool where people were reserving in the dark. There is a 90 mins policy holding that seemed to be enforced by security- but all huts were gone - pool umbrellas too by 6am. The beach huts are shared by the Tropicana resort which is close by - which added to the crowds. The hotel should go back to the drawing board on the pool / beach situation - or else add more umbrellas / huts. Maybe offer umbrellas in the sand at the beach.
If I was to return to Aruba I would stay in another resort - but it will be a while before I visit because of the 3 hours of waiting in line at the airport to get home. Yes - you go through US Customs there so no need to do it in your home airport - but I have traveled a fair amount and have never waited so long in line at an airport. Our passports where checked 5 times ... each required a wait in a line. We waited in 2 security lines - we are TSA pre-checked - didn't matter we waited with everyone else. We were traveling on a Monday - I can't imagine what this is like on a high travel days like Saturday or Sunday. All the lines were slow due to only 2 open windows or just 2 security lines.. tons of people feeding into 2 lines. There were 5 open custom's agents.. but again there were so many people waiting and folks that were in danger of missing flights were moving to the front causing longer waits. This seriously made my decision not to return - we were told arrive at airport 2 hours before flight to have enough time - our flight was delayed and 1.5 hrs.. if that had not happened we would have missed the flight.. and we were being told by others that flights were not being held for people waiting in line..if you travel to Aruba make certain you allow at least 3 hours if your flight is on time. All in all this airport experience killed the vacation buzz... I could not wait to get home!

We stayed here last week instead of our usual timeshare property which was unavailable. The overall rating is very good. Not excellent though, because there was limited cover from the sun on the beach and at the pool. Not enough umbrellas or beach huts are available. This is important especially since the sun in Aruba is very hot.

We stayed 2 weeks at La Cabana Beach Resort, which is located right across the road from Eagle Beach...rated 8th best in the world by Tripadvisor, in January 2014.
The resort has been recently renovated, is very clean and well looked after. The staff are friendly, helpful and seem to enjoy their work.
The suites have kitchens and there is a grocery store within a 5 minute walk...which helps keep cost under control.
Would recommend staying here to friends and family.

Room Tip: You want ocean or pool view...there are a few that are parking lot view..not so good.

We booked one of Blue Green Vacation things thru the Bass Pro shop then added extra nights on top of the base package! Thank God we got it cheaper then rack rate! To start there was all kind of construction going on right outside are room window. We were told in advance about it HOWEVER told or not still did not fix the issue as to just how loud it was! Then we get a room next door that had kids screaming all night for two nights. When we told the front desk they did nothing but put a wood divider on the door between rooms to mute the noise but it did nothing! And oh lets talk about everyone hogging up all the pool and beach chairs. Waking up at sunrise running down to save the chairs and the hotel doing nothing. I can on and on this place is a true dump! Blue Green should be ashamed to be part of it!

Enjoyed our stay at La Cabana. It is right across the street from Eagle Beach so you can go back and forth all day to the beach and pool. That was a saving grace with kids, they like to move back and forth and truthfully I do too, youre not locked into an entire day at the beach or pool. Chairs are provided, but get there early because the tables with umbrellas go quickly and you will need shade at some point. The waves can get pretty intense, you will lose sunglasses, my husband did, twice. There is a little beach hut that sells drinks right on the beach. The only annoying thing was the women that stood out front of the entrace to the beach selling timeshares for DIvi and trying to get you to buy and get hair braided and such. I grew tired of that and would walk around to avoid her. She wears a big hat you cant miss her! Our room was clean and had a king bed and a pull out couch. We faced the Amsterdam Hotel and had a view of ocean which was nice. The food at the restaurant is decent, we ate lunch there several times. They have buy one get one free happy hour and bingo everyday at four which is fun. They also have life sized checkers and chess and they have various childrens activities throughout the day. The gym was decent with a few good treadmills, but could use some updating. Again get there early by 7 or go after 9 or you will have to wait, treadmills are the most popular. We cooked our dinner and brought it down by the pool some nights. There are a few grocery stores close buy and they sell liqueor also. Lots of good restauerants around, we had a car which was nice as it allowed us to see the whole island. The Hilton and the Hyatt probably have the best gambeling if you like that, the casino in La Cabana is smaller. The only draw back is the walls between rooms are not sound proof. We could hear people at 2 am dragging chairs around and partying. Our daughter cried one night for probably 5 minutes, and the people next store called security, by the time security arrived she was sleeping. So although lots of kids there and it is a family resort, they do not apparently tolerate crying children, so keep that in mind when planning youre stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that faces the ocean unless you want to look at a parking lot

We were here years ago and it was an OK resort - heck we were in Aruba. It has since changed hands and has been fully upgraded. Beach is less crowded than Palm Beach. This place has everything that a tourist needs: restaurants, shops, pool, beach, etc. etc. Easy access to Palm Beach and their restaurants. Grocery store (huge) is a short walk away, before we had to take a taxi and that took time and money. We took the bus to downtown and up to Palm Beach all the time it is $2.25 each way and is lots of fun. We have rented a car in the past, but it is really not necessary We will be back for trip #5

La Cabana Beach Resort is located on Eagle Beach right next to Amsterdam Manor. The Super Foods grocery store is close enough to walk to, but we still rent a car for the week.

Eagle Beach:
The beach is across the street from the resort. The street is not a very busy road and there's a cross walk that cars abide by so it's really easy to get to the beach. The beach has palapas that you can use and an abudance of beach chairs at all times. True, to get a palapa in the morning you do need to get up early to stake your claim. You also have 1.5 hours to come back or they do move your belongings. We found it was easier to get a hut at the end of the day. People are also super nice and will share the shade if you ask.

La Cabana Pool:
Super nice. Plenty of chairs and tables in the shade. Happy hour drinks starting at 2. Bingo at 2. Slide. Kids' hot tubs separate from adult ones. Large chess, checkers, connect four and bean toss games. This is not the pool for you if you want a peace and quiet place to nap. Rather, the pool scene is fun and perfect for kids to romp around with out feeling like you're bothering anybody.

Rooms/Cleaning:
We found the housekeeping to be just fine. The rooms were very well equipped. Kitchens had all that we needed and were recently updated. I can see how the hallways would be noisy. If you can get a room that has an interior hallway, it might be better. Also, the studios seem to have a better layout than the 1 bedrooms.

Aruba:
Is a super island. There's a reason why people keep returning. Do rent a car and take advantage of the awesome sights and superior dining choices. Some of our faves: Flying Fishbone, Yemanja, Wacky Wahoo and Pinchos Grille. Don't bother with shopping downtown where the cruise ships come in. While it's a little cleaner than previous years, there are no deals to be had. It's way more fun to shop in the evening at the shops in the High Rise hotel area.

Room Tip: Interior hall way; look at the floor plan to make sure you're not near a double door. Wouldn'...
