“Lobster in Paradise - Telephone Number Included”

Uncle Roddy's is a simple homestyle restaurant on the beach at Spanish Well Point in Barbuda which serves the best lobster we've ever had. It's worth the adventure to get there.

If like us you're arriving by boat you pull the dinghy up on the sand at the security gate to the airstrip & Roddy will come and get you in his pickup. It's best to let him know in advance that you're coming so he can make sure he has enough provisions in and so that you'll get the all-important lift. Otherwise it's a two-mile walk down an unmade road over native burrs which'll shred your feet! Tricky if you're going for an evening meal ...

Once there Roddy offers a buffet including chicken, fish, fabulous plantane and salad and lobster which is home-grown in the lagoon, a body of water 7-times as salty as the sea & so providing its unique flavour (the Barbudans import the big ones & save the smaller fry for the islands' guests).

Roddy also provides beer, wine & rum punch but make sure you take enough cash. Barbuda isn't credit card friendly & you don't want to miss out.

Uncle Roddy himself is a sixty-something, well-spoken gent, a Barbudan native who has seen a bit of the world & has some good stories to tell.

Like everyone else we met on this incredible island (my favourite in the Caribbean), Roddy is an honest, warm, interesting host - a visit is a must.

His telephone number is: 268 785 3268

A great way to spend a relaxing day in Barbuda, The pink sand beach with Roddy cooking grilled Lobster. The food was fantastic, the beer was cold and the chairs in the surf were totally relaxing. A must to experience !!!!!

“Uncle Rodey's is a must place to eat!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 September 2013

First Barbuda is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. And on the unspoiled island sits a little place called Uncle Rodey's. it is located right on a beautiful beach. The food is fabulous! Grilled lobster, grilled BBQ chicken are the main dishes served with rice, salad and grilled bananas. Of course there is a small bar with cold soda, beer, wine and mixed drinks. Uncle Rodey prepares your meals right in front of you. Everything is freshly made. We walked 2 miles from Princess Diana beach in the hot sun just to have lunch here. Well worth the trip. Make sure you call in advance so he can enough lobster and chicken for you. Tell Uncle Rodey Patti ( the girl who gave him his NY Yankees hat) sent you!!

“We walked 2 miles, climbed 10 ' fence just to get to Uncle Roddys place.”

This was our 2nd time visiting Barbuda for the day. After swimming on the gorgeous beach of Princess Diana we decided not to wait for our ride not realizing we were 2 miles away from Uncle Roddys where we knew our lobsters and cold beers were waiting at this quaint little house in the middle of no where. Great food,, friendly people and wonderful day we had . If you go make sure you stop by Uncle Roddys ,you won't be disappointed .

“Could Easily Eat Here Everyday.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 June 2013

We stayed for two weeks in the cottage next door to Uncle Roddy's and ate there seven of the days (and dropped in for a beer or some rum on a few others). By the end of our visit we were really sorry to leave both Roddy and his dog Ritchie behind.
Uncle Roddy prepares good, fresh, simple food. Everything is served with rice, a salad and a grilled veg (we had plantain and pumkin). The meals are all either lobster, chicken or whatever fish Roddy had bought that day (we had kingfish, snapper and grouper) and you needed to book the day before just to make sure that Roddy had enough fresh food in.
This is not the best restaurant I have ever eaten in but the beach over the road, the total isolation, good simple food and Roddy himself all made it something I shall never forget and something I want to go back to for more!
We did get bitten by a few sandflies in the evening and so we just changed the time of day we were eating.
Uncle Roddy's is like a lot of other things in Barbuda, simple, unspoilt, charming and stuck in your memory for ever.
