My wife and I just returned from a week in Bermuda to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. What really made the trip "magical" for us was our week at Royal Palms. It is really hard to find words to describe our stay there. To call it a "boutique" hotel would be an understatement. We travel globally and I think it would be fair to say that this is one of the finest hotels we have had the pleasure to stay in. The staff treats you like family and everything, whether it be accommodations, reservations, meals (Ascot is absolutely exquisite with a remarkable wine list), the arboretum feeling of the grounds, is first quality. So if you are looking for a hotel that combines elegance with a very, very friendly, comfortable atmosphere, then Royal Palms is the place to stay. We cannot wait to return.

Room Tip: If you really want privacy, choose their largest suite which is off by itself and has a separate bed...

Sonia W was an amazing host, and made the hotel very hosptiable. Rooms were very comfortable. Pool was clean and gardens well manicured. Food experience at Ascot was the best on the entire island. I would definitely come back again.

My wife and I recently stayed for two nights at The Royal Palms Hotel, and it was first class from top to bottom. A boutique style hotel, wonderful service. Very nice breakfast included. The Ascot restaurant, which is part of the hotel, was one of the best dining experiences we had in Bermuda. The locatiuon is very nice, in Hamilton but a few easy blocks walk away from the hustle and bustle of the center of town, you feel as if you are miles away. We'd definitely stay again.

My wife and I stayed at the Royal Palms Hotel 10 years ago and it has retained all its attributes. It has much more the feeling of a country inn (Bermuda style) than a hotel. Our room was in the historic main building, but there are rooms in several adjacent buildings on the property that should be checked out. We were just there this the May shoulder season, and the guests were half business people and half vacationers (mostly returning). Add in the 5:30 to 6:30 pm complimentary wines and you get a vibrant international mix of personalities.

The gardens are beautiful, the service is low key and well informed, and the staff are a pleasure to interact with. Public spaces and our room were very clean, There is free wi-fi and an available computer. Living rooms and the glassed in breakfast porch are welcoming and comfortable. A fresh continental breakfast with additions like quiche and waffles is included. Ascots, one of the island's best restaurants, is in the main building. There is a small pool.

The hotel is pleasantly secluded, but only a 10-minute walk from the middle of Front Street, in the largest city of Hamilton. Other excellent restaurants are there, and we particularly liked Harbourfront (eat outside by the water) and Barracuda Grill. Be aware that everything is imported into Bermuda, and with the corporate economy, it is quite expensive. Expect big city US prices. The Royal Palms is reasonable compared with the large resort hotels. It is not near the beaches, but the point of Bermuda is to explore. If you don't want to rent a scooter, a 3-day pass costs only $35 for unlimited access to all ferries and buses that cover the island with frequent service.

Bermuda is a colorful, clean, friendly, racially integrated, and safe northern outpost of the Caribbean with a high standard of living. And the Royal Palms Hotel is a great escape from which to enjoy the island.

In short, the Royal Palms is everything you could ever want in a boutique hotel on Bermuda.

First, the location. If you're like us, you'd probably rather spend your time exploring Bermuda or lounging on the beach than hanging out at your hotel, but a convenient location is always a plus. The Royal Palms is technically in Hamilton, but it's on the outskirts of town, about a 10 minute walk from Hamilton proper. If you take Richmond Road east past the Robin Hood pub, there are sidewalks most of the way. We considered it a perfect location - nice and quiet, as you're not in the heart of the city, but still right where you can get to it when you want to get changed for dinner or go relax for a bit. Plenty of restaurants within easy striking distance, including the in-hotel restaurant Ascots, a very upscale place with a creative menu.

Our Deluxe mini-suite was spacious and well-equipped with TV, DVD, small kitchen with mini-fridge and breakfast table, king bed, good size bathroom, and small walk-in closet. Everything was spotlessly clean.

The staff was top-notch in professionalism, competence, and friendliness. We didn't take advantage of many concierge services, but the room was certainly well-kept. The front desk staff scheduled a taxi for us, provided us with towels to dry off when we were caught in the rain after checkout, and were generally helpful.

Breakfast (boiled eggs, cold cuts, fruit, pastries, waffle maker) and wi-fi are both included, which I've found to be relatively rare for a hotel of this class.

Bermuda is very expensive generally, but by Hamilton standards you can't do much better than this in terms of value. Look no further for a place to stay.

Room Tip: We stayed in a Deluxe Mini-Suite on the second floor facing the garden. Perfect choice, though you...

The people were friendly and helpful. The location was convenient and walkable, and yet just far enough from the business district of Hamilton that it felt peaceful and serene. Our room was comfortable. We had a ground-floor unit in the detached building, with a galley kitchen (sink, counter, counter-height mini fridge, toaster oven, microwave, coffee maker, Brita, and dishes). The room was immaculate and comfortable.

I paid special attention to the breakfast, because of conflicting reviews I had read. It was fine. They offered cereals, juices, coffee, tea, pastries, cheese and cold meats, fruit, yogurt, make-your-own waffle, and boil-your-own-egg (which is something you also see in Western Europe) toast, muffins. Our needs were met. It is not the full-on elaborate Sunday buffet at the Southampton Princess. Royal Palms is not a major resort; it's a smaller hotel, and the meal is included -- you're not forced to choose between paying extra for the meal, or going elsewhere. For those who really want a meat-heavy breakfast, or eggs and pancakes cooked to order, there is Bouchee on Pitts Bay Road, and The Spot in town.

There are lovely outdoor sitting areas, and the pool is small but attractive. I would go back.

What can I add that hasn't been said already! (Please read Reviewer Amanda G's review which perfectly described our visit.) We are going back to The Royal Palms Hotel next time we visit Bermuda. On our last day, we visited other hotels in Hamilton. We agreed that the Royal Palms was the best, even though some of the others were very nice.

The hotel management and staff are excellent, without exception. They made our stay even more memorable and pleasant. They are most solicitous, helping us with whatever we needed: directions, restaurant suggestions, taxis, laundry arrangements, local history, names of flora and fauna, and the story of the hotel, and more.

At breakfast (we slept in and arrived about 20 minutes before closing), John and the rest of the team made sure we had whatever we wanted - which included waffles, fresh fruit, yogurts, breads and cakes, cheeses and meats, jams and jellies, and more.

We are foodies, We had New Year's Eve dinner at the hotel, with a special menu and decorations. Most of the patrons were Bermuda residents - if the locals like it, it must be very very good. It was very very good. We are dinner twice at the hotel and were very pleased with the excellent cuisine and service.

We traveled by bus to visit St George, the Zoo / Aquarium, and the beaches. (Buy a 16 trip ticket at the bus station in town - $2 a ride anywhere on the island.) The bus station is a 15 minute walk from the hotel.

Best of all, holiday lights were hung on the trees and the tree frogs were chirping. Our late evening strolls were magical. If we had an estate in Bermuda, we would landscape it exactly like Royal Palms. We ARE going back to the Royal Palms Hotel.

Room Tip: We stayed in the "new building" in a second floor room with a king bed. The room was very...
