“A Gem on the edge of Hamilton”
Reviewed 26 November 2013

This is a great place to add when touring Hamilton and its environs as it is close enough to walk to from the centre of town and, on a sunny day, well worth it for the views. If there is a fault with the place it is the poor sign-posting of its location and the deceptive nature of its immediate locale as it is in a very built up area.

Nevertheless, it is well maintained, a joy to walk about the grounds safely; exploring the incredible moat (a virtual rain forest!); or, my favourite, simply drinking in the history and walking the fortifications & tunnels. Sure it may not be as grand as some of the castles in England, but it is a great addition to a days walking tour.

“nicely kept but very small”
Reviewed 25 November 2013

these are nicely kept grounds with a good view of the city, however you need to know that the fort is very small and you will be in and out in about 20 minutes or less. its an short distance from the main part of town, but if you are pressed for time i would not put this attraction at the top of thelist

“Interesting Place”
Reviewed 6 November 2013

Nice place to visit, but not a 'fort' in the traditional sense. More like a very strategic high point on the island with some cool tunnels/things to see. Worth the visit, just not a fort in the true sense of the word. It is also a bit hard to find so don't just start walking that way as you'll end up doing a lot of backtracking and searching. Get specific directions!

“Loved this Fort”
Reviewed 15 October 2013

Originally we were not going to stop at Fort Hamilton, however our journeys brought us right beside it. I am so glad they did because this place was absolutely wonderful. There is a cool old moat, a rainforest, beautiful views, and a lot of history in one little place. We spent quite a bit of time here, learning about the events that took place at this fort. It was especially interesting for my sister's boyfriend, who is very into the history of wars. We would absolutely go back!

“Fantastic View”
Reviewed 9 September 2013

The walk was a little steep but no outrageous. The view from the top is worth it & the three stories are interesting. The bottom story is like being in a rain forest. Most interesting!
