“Worth a visit - excellent views”
Reviewed 14 May 2014

If you can find your way out of Hamilton to the East , above the fire station, Fort Hamiton offers exceptional views over the city of Hamilton. There are some canons and well maintained gardens. The moat around the fort, and the gun powder storage areas are also fun to explore. It is always quite peaceful and quiet.

“Fort Hamilton - the 'secret' moat”
Reviewed 8 May 2014

What a find! Fort Hamilton seems to be off the radar for most visitor reviews to Bermuda. We only happened upon it as a last minute choice to finish off our day. Not expecting much, we followed the easy route up Queen St. near the ferry port, walked along Church St. to King St. and then followed the sign to the fort nearby. Entry was free and, amazingly, only one other couple was there. At first the usual fort-type things were there like old walls and canons (kept on beautiful grounds). The views from the fort wall overlooking the coast and Hamilton were wonderful. The real surprise was yet to come, however. As we were leaving the entry gate, a local asked us if we had visited the moat and tunnels below. The stairs for this access, as he pointed out, were located down a pathway just to the left as you entered the fort by crossing over the moat foot bridge. If you look down from the bridge you can see the pathway below. Do go! Entering the moat, located all around the outside of the fort walls, is like being in Kauai, Hawaii. You will be greeted with stunning tropical growth, a well marked trail and entry to well lit tunnels, where soldiers were once stationed to defend the fort. How cool is that? Follow the path and/or tunnels completely around the moat and you will end up where you started. It's very safe and worth every step!

“Fun and interesting place - especially for families and Bermuda history”
Reviewed 4 May 2014

Located on top of a tall hill, overlooking the harbor, with magnificent views on sunny days.

Two levels - the lookout and firing areas, and the storage and living areas.

Well landscaped, interesting trails through a dense wet-land "mini-forest".

Lots of really good photo ops - distant vistas, closeups of plantings, and backgrounds for family tableaux.

No fences near the openings to the lower level though - keep young children (or wild teenagers) away.

“Peaceful and quiet.”
Reviewed 3 May 2014

It was pre-tourist season, so it was very tranquil. No lines and a lot of time outside. You also had freedom to walk around.
