“Bermuda's Best Kept Secrets”
Reviewed 1 July 2011

The Newstead is one of Bermuda's best kept secrets! Well secret NO MORE! I'm outing you Newstead Blemont Hills Hotel!!!!!

Where else in Bermuda will you find a hotel suite of this caliber. This is a home away from home. It's like being at home and on vacation at the same time! The full size, well equipped kitchen, dining area, living room, balcony, and master suite with a very large bathroom offer everything you need for breakfast, lunch, and dinner if you opt for cooking on your own. The Blu and Beau Rivage Restaurants and room service are all excellent. The bar draws in a nice crowd as well, so I would say a great spot for families and singles alike.

Every room has a fantastic harbor view, wonderful both in the day and night. The spa is equally as wonderful. I had the most relaxing spa treatments and a wonderful massage. Meanwhile my 10 year old enjoyed the infinity pool with her Dad. She also liked the mini candy store in the lobby and the free wifi for her itouch!

Centrally located in Bermuda you are minutes away from many of Bermuda’s wonderful sites. There is also a free ferry from the hotel to the city of Hamilton. If you are a golfer the Belmont course is right up the road. The Beach is a short ride away.

All I can say is look out Fairmont Princess and Elbow Beach Hotels…..been there done that! The Newstead is the way to go now!

A wonderful boutique resort destination. Located conveniently enough to downtown Hamilton via a complimentary water shuttle to Hamilton dock. Well manicured grounds. Fantastic infinity pool and deck area. Wonderful views from the rooms of the harbour. Beautiful accomidations. We enjoyed a one bedroom suite, which was well appointed with everything one might need. The staff was very helpful and accomidating. A great place to call home in "Bermudaful" Bermuda.

My wife and I are from Bermuda but took two days off for our 25th Anniversary this weekend to stay at the Newstead Belmont Hills Hotel. We had a very nice suite overlooking Hamilton Harbour (actually I think ALL the rooms overlook the harbour) and the staff were courteous and helpful. The bathroom was superb with a walk in shower and comfortable tub and looked out into the bedroom and the harbour beyond.

We hosted a lunch for six and dinner for seven at Beau Rivage and the food was exceptional. For lunch we sat outside and one of our serving staff went out of her way to move a second umbrella over when the late afternoon sun was beating down. Dinner the next night inside was excellent as well with local seafood options that most of our table of local Bermudians selected.

The hotel is gorgeous, rooms are amazing, pull out sofa was crap but the kids didn't know the difference. We had a 1 bedroom suite, it was a home away from home.

The check in process was horrific.... the room was ready 2 hours AFTER check in, the local lady that answered the call was horrific and hung up on me. She was to worried about complaining how busy the hotel was rather than realizing i was the customer and paid her salary. she put a huge sour taste and i won't stay there again.

Bermudian people don't fully understand what customer service is... it's a shame, but one day they will figure it out... MAYBE.

After reading all these reviews, maybe our expectations were too high, but we were somewhat disappointed with this hotel. I agree - most of the staff is very friendly (with the exception of the grumpy ferry driver and the golf pro who ignored us and would not get off the phone when we entered the golf shop) , but we found everyone in Bermuda to be friendly and happy that Americans were spending money there.

As the prior review said, this location is very isolated. You cannot walk anywhere! You take your life into your own hands trying to walk on the street - no sidewalks. There is no bus stop nearby - really, the only option is a cab to get anywhere (costly!). The ferry to Hamilton only runs a few hours in the mornings and a few hours in the evenings, but NOT on Saturday night (which is when you want to go out) or on Sundays or on holidays (Queen's birthday included) - so we did not have "free" transportation for over half our stay, although it was advertised differently. There is no beach to even walk on. They will take you to the other restaurant (Blu - only open for dinner) and the golf course - so you are essentially forced to spend money at their locations if you don't take a cab.

The pool is beautiful, but if there are more than a few people there, it gets crowded quickly. People ran out in the morning and laid their towels on the limited number of chairs, so there was only seating in the shade by the afternoon.

I think their focus is on the people who buy "shared fractions" of the property, so these people end up buying groceries, etc. and already know what is going on, but we were not informed on a lot things. (Like Sunday brunch - which was sold out by the time we found out about it.) Beau Rivage (restaurant on site) was ok - service was good one time, very poor the next (it is like everyone takes off on weekends, even when they are at work.) Some food was great - some was average. Like everything in Bermuda - very pricey. They even charged us (2 people) for 4 coffees, (at $3.50 a cup) because we asked for a refill and then they refused to credit our bill when we asked why. So, after we spent nearly $3000 at their hotel, they forced us to pay them $7.00 more for coffee we did not drink. It is the little things, I guess. We will return to Bermuda, but not to this hotel.

The Newstead Belmont Hills is a beautiful, well kept resort, not family oriented but definitely family friendly. (Our 8 year old loved it.) Rooms are modern, clean, well kept and striking; staff is friendly and helpful, suites have good kitchen faciities and are well furnished and kept up, restaurants (Beau Rivage on premise, Blu at golf course) are both excellent if expensive, infinity pool is striking and just the right size, beautiful spa and access to tennis and golf is readily available. The only problem is that it is somewhat isolated. Cabs are available, and there is a launch that goes to and from Hamilton twice an hour in the morning and evening hours, but from 11:20-4:20 and after 8:20, the launch does not run, so cabs and bus are the only transport, and the bus line is a 1/4 mile walk from the resort. One has to plan one's day around the launch times unless one is willing to go by cab, quite pricey in Bermuda. Other than that, we really enjoyed the Newstead Belmont Hills and will undoubtedly return.

Room Tip: Rooms on the highest floors have the best view.
