“Great stay at Fourways Inn”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 October 2013

So glad we booked at Fourways Inn. We were hesitant at first due to its
location inland, but we soon came to love it. Fourways is centrally located
with easy access to South Road (beaches & Swizzle Inn) or Harbor Rd (ferry
to Hamilton.) The staff was friendly, helpful and went above & beyond. Each
day began with a complimentary tray of coffee, pastries, fresh fruit & paper
delivered to our room. The restaurant is exceptional. We cannot wait for our
return to Fourways.

Three of us (having all visited Bermuda on prior occasions), staying in two rooms, just got back from a 12-night stay at the Fourways Inn. We all found the atmosphere relaxing and full of Bermuda charm. We're sorry intimate "cottage colonies" like this seem to be a dying breed in Bermuda. The antiquity of the main building, where the bar and restaurant are, is great and the grounds are full of blooming flowers, kiskadee birds, and at night the tree frogs of course!

We're not fancy people, so while the rooms could be upgraded, we found them comfortable and clean and the beds to be quite good. Those with two in the room were given an upgrade to a suite as there were fair number of vacant rooms, and this gave extra space which was appreciated.

Complimentary breakfast is brought to the room. The standard fare is coffee/tea, pastries and fresh fruit; and cooked breakfast, such as eggs and bacon, is available for an extra charge.
The standard items are of very good quality. The fresh-cut fruit was plentiful and very good, something to be appreciated on an island where most food is imported and expensive. The pastries were fresh and nicely made. However, we try to eat more healthy and/or hearty food, and when we ordered the cooked items, the quality was not as good or items sometimes went missing. Notwithstanding, eating on one's own patio/terrace, with a delightful view of the garden or glimpses of the harbor, was a treat we relished and lingered over each morning. The grounds are nicely maintained and the pool is inviting and cleaned regularly.

We took advantage of the free beach passes to the Coco Reef, which was nice. It was an easy five-minute ride by motor scooter to that resort. Though the Coco Reef beach has been somewhat shrunken by some storms, it is part of the beautiful strip known as Elbow Beach, on which are also the Elbow Beach Hotel, the public Elbow Beach park, and the Coral Beach Club. You can swim comfortably in those areas and use the lounge chairs etc of Coco Reef. Lunch and bar menus are available at the Coco Reef as well. The food and drinks are very good and the setting, on a hill overlooking the water, is mesmerizing.

We ate in the dining room of Fourways three nights, and the food was indeed very good. However, the meal plan offered was not preferable for us as we found the "fine dining" experience, with three full courses, to be too much food and the cost steep. The price, even at the meal plan discount, easily comes to $85 a head if drink and/or one of many surcharged menu items are ordered. I'm willing to pay a premium in Bermuda but we all found this more in volume of food and in terms of budget than suited us, so thereafter we did only the Sunday brunch, which we all felt was acceptably priced. It is an extravaganza of excellent foods, and their pastry chef really shines in the broad array of outstanding desserts presented. The other reviewers are right -- wherever you stay, don't miss the Sunday brunch here! For the remainder of our dinners, we tried lots of different restaurants (from local takeout joints to better quality places), which I hope to detail in a general Bermuda review, but stayed closer to our eating and wallet choices.

We rented scooters but in inclement weather also took advantage of the bus/ferry system by purchasing $30 of tickets, providing 15 trips which can be used throughout the island on either mode of transportation and don't expire. The ferry is worth taking even if you have a bike, and on certain routes the bikes are permitted. Bus and ferry connections are close by and get you most places, though not conveniently to the Coco Reef for use of that beach.

We loved the staff and felt they were genuinely nice and worked real hard to please. The management took care of our needs, providing advice and gave us umbrellas for the few rainy days we had. However, there was some misunderstanding at the time of checkout as to a particular deal we were provided in writing before, so it's advisable to double-check your arrangements.

In short, while we all relaxed (our main goal) and enjoyed our stay very much, given the high costs generally of staying in Bermuda and their long-struggling tourism industry, I'd recommend staying at this hotel only on their best promotions, and if you're comfortable being somewhat removed from the beach.

Room Tip: I had the Cedrene, a deluxe room, which I think may have the best harbor view on the property. I th...

It's surprising the rooms associated with a four star restaurant and well-kept grounds aren't a little nicer. With new bedding and curtains, high-end bathroom upgrades, new doors and a fresh coat of paint, the proprietors would have a gold mine. The staff and service are excellent, and the grounds, including the salt water pool, are all great. I feel like with a little effort the whole place could be a gem. Instead, it's just ok.

The location is not ideal; to get to the south shore beaches via bus, you have to transfer. We used cabs, and of course you can always rent scooters, but we found the traffic on Middle road a bit intimidating.

Overall we enjoyed our experience, but we kept thinking "what a diamond in the rough"!

My husband and I have been to Bermuda six times in the last 30 years, each time staying at a different hotel. Our most recent trip in August was spent at the Fourways and we very much enjoyed our week-long visit. The staff, whom we got to know on a first name basis, were warm, friendly and accommodating. Our room rate included a nice breakfast (coffee, tea, fresh pastries and fruit) which was cheerfully delivered to our room each morning. Also included were complimentary beach passes to Coco Reefs Resort next to Elbow Beach (passes included beach chairs, umbrella and beach towels). The Sunday brunch is the best on the island (no free drink refills) and their dinners are fabulous. We stayed in the Cedrene room (2nd floor deluxe room) and even though the inn is centrally located on the island, we enjoyed sitting out on our balcony with a nice, unobstructed view looking out to the Great Sound and the tip of the Dockyard. Our room was spacious and included a frig and microwave. As mentioned in previous posts, the décor of the rooms are a bit tired looking hence, if allowed, I’d give this inn 4.5 stars instead of 5 (can’t give half a star). That being said, the attentive and accommodating service outweighed the slights of the room. Fyi, at our departure, we were told that starting this Fall, each room will be renovated, one by one. If you’re looking for a small, quiet inn with impeccable staff and attentiveness, this is the place to stay. Lastly, I recommend a two seat scooter as the best way to see this magnificent island.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Cedrene room (2nd floor deluxe room) and even though the inn is centrally located o...

We spent three nights at the Fourways Inn and absolutely enjoyed it. Everyone we spoke to was extremely friendly and accommodating. The location is ideally situated in the middle of the island. We had no trouble getting to the south shore beaches, Hamliton, and St. George's on our scooter. The views of the harbor from our balcony were beautiful, and the pool was clean and refreshing. We did find ants in our room, but the staff quickly took care of it. Fourways is a great choice for the price.

A good experience. Food was very good with good service. The local fish was cooked to perfection! We would go back! The sampler as an appetizer was a great way to start and sample the fare. Must try the flambé dessert...not to be missed!

My wife and I spent a wonderful vacation in Bermuda and Fourways is a great place to stay. The staff is great and we got to know the entire team on a first name basis. The room is quite basic but met all our needs. The grounds and swimming pool are great and the breakfast each morning was just right. The location makes it very eazy to get to public transportation or the main roads and ferry service.

The grounds are very quiet but we did meet many of the other guests many of whom had stayed at Fourways many times before. We are already looking forward to our next visit to Bermuda and Fourways
