“Not your typical hotel, rather a home away from home”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 May 2014

We just got back last night from 8 nights at Pompano Beach Club. We went to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary.
FOOD-We were on the meal plan, dinner and breakfast. the meals were always wonderful and full of variety. 5* dinning for sure. You are definitely getting your moneys worth getting your meals included. Food is expensive on the island and having the meals included was a great way to go. Do not try and save money by skipping the meal plan, it will cost you more in the end and you will not eat anywhere else better or for less money. Want to try island restaurants than go for lunch and don't miss your dinners at Pompano.
There are two dining rooms to choose from and we dined in both. The sunset grill gives you the best view of the sunset but both restaurants have outstanding views. Sunset grill has a better view of the water than most cruise ships restaurants I've been too.
LOCATION- I was so happy with the location, it is close to everything including ferry, bus stops and the best beaches on the island. Don't stay close the airport (Grotto) unless you want to hear planes all day and be on the opposite side of the best beaches.

STAFF-The staff are friendly and there is no stuffiness to be had. If you want a formal and snobby atmosphere than go to a hotel, Fairmount Hampton is a great choice if you don't like people and like to spend excessive amounts of money for fun. However if you are looking for a homebase to explore the island and sit on the beach or in the pool, than look no further than Pompano Beach Club. One of best services that we appreciated was the shuttle service to the grocery store, the bus stops or the ferry terminal. Laurie at the main desk was always helpful with suggestions and CC drove us whenever we needed to go. It was like having a driver ready to bring us to the local transportation. We were able to buy bus tickets and ferry tickets right at the main office. Every day we took the bus or ferry and discovered a new part of the island.

WEATHER IN MAY- I was unsure about going in May, if the weather would be warm enough if there would enough to do etc. for 8 days but we ran out of time and have a list of things we would like to do on return and the weather was perfect for all activities. Including snorkeling and swimming.
ROOMS- Pompano's rooms were quiet and had a wonderful view, we had privacy and were close to everything. We stayed in room 15 (Deluxe) which was closest to everything at Pompano.
WARNING-I would suggest that if mobility is an issue that Pompano may not be the best place to stay, there are stairs going to pool, and beach and even to one of the restaurants and depending on your room you may have many steps to go to the main club. That would be the only downside to staying at Pompano Beach Club.
If you want wonderful nightly entertainment you may be somewhat disappointed in the entertainment, it is just a relaxed atmosphere and if you want lively night clubs, go to Hamilton. We played games, listened to piano music and just kicked back.
Overall the friendliness, the cleanliness and the food make this a wonderful place to stay, relax and explore. When we return, Pompano will be our first choice to return to. Please let me know if my suggestions were helpful and if you have any questions.
We booked by phone and I was a little unsure about booking without an agent but don't let that scare you off, it's all legit and the website is a very accurate description of what you get. There were no surprises at all!!

Room Tip: Spend a bit more and stay in deluxe close to the main dinning and club, it's worth the extra for...

We went to Pompano Beach Club for a vacation over April Break. We stayed from a Friday to a Wednesday, and it was great. The beach was amazing, with fun mats that you could float on or ride the waves. There was little to no seaweed, and many private beach coves off the beach that you could easily swim to. The beach was conveniently located near the pool and hot tubs, so you could go back and forth between them. We spent quite a few of our days by the beach and pool. The pool had an adjacent hot tub and a nearby kiddie pool- though some days the kiddie pool was a bit cold. They also had many chairs to sit in overlooking the ocean and an excellent pool bar with smoothies and drinks for the grown-ups. You could order lunch by the pool or in their restaurant with an ocean view- I recommend the chopped salad or the quesadillas.

There was an awesome Easter Egg Hunt on Easter Day. You look all around the resort to find eggs with jellybeans or prize numbers- you can redeem the for t-shirts or hats.

The dining was excellent. There was a 5-course dinner each night, though you could choose which courses you wanted. The kids menu was outstanding and had a lot of choices. On Monday night there was a buffet/cookout dinner in the upstairs restaurant. That was delicious, and there was even a dessert bar including a cupcake platter. :) Breakfast was a buffet two mornings, and the menu for the rest of the week. I ordered banana pancakes twice- they were delicious!!

The rooms were very nice. We stayed in the one-bedroom suite, which included a king bed and a pull-out couch. The pull-out was very comfortable! There was also a private deck off the room with a gorgeous view.

Two days, we went into town and did some activities. I highly recommend swimming with the dolphins at dolphin quest. It's such an awesome experience! We also toured the crystal caves which were fascinating and incredible. I recommend both of these activities, though be warned that there is a little wait most of the time. There can also be crowds from cruise ships. Another tip is to get there early for the dolphin quest. They start getting wetsuits on 1/2 hour early.

The buses are very clean, and a great price, too. A great way to explore the island. The taxis are nice too, but expensive.

Overall, in every aspect I give this hotel the best rating ever. Stay there!! :) :) :)

Room Tip: The one-bedroom suite (numbers 60-63, we stayed in) has a nice view of the ocean. We did see some ro...

Just returned from 5 nights at the Pompano Beach Club - what an amazing place. I work for British Airways had have travelled the world and stayed in some wonderful hotels but non with service as good as this ! And a room with views to die for ( Room 1 ) .We booked this last minute at 11.30pm on Tuesday and flew out on Wednesday morning !!! We were looking for somewhere quiet and relaxing with great service and wonderful food - you will not find a better place than Pompano. We almost booked one of the larger corporate hotels, but after looking at Trip Advosor, we booked here, and so glad we did. We visited some of the larger hotels and there where just too large and very busy.
At the Pompano you are greated by name in the restaurant, waiters spend time having a chat , asking how your day was and recommending somethings to do for the rest of your stay. The five course menu is changed daily and the food is as good as any 5* Hotel if not better. The owners are always on hand, and nothing is too much trouble - they even give you a lift to the local shops and bus stop if you want to explore. We booked a three hour tour through the hotel with Ron, a local taxi driver, a great tour guide and very funny.
Can't wait to go back and spend lazy days sitting on the beautiful beach sipping a strawberry Daiquiri ( Which by the way is half the price of some of the larger hotels ) !

Room Tip: Delux rooms closer to the sea , but all rooms have a sea view. If you want the wow fa...

We had a very enjoyable and relaxing visit last week at Pompano Beach Club. We have been to Bermuda for seven visits over the past 20-25 years and this was our first time at Pompano. We are getting to the age where we don’t want to keep searching for the “best place” and happily we will come back to Pompano without question on future trips. The site - room and beach - is spectacular, the service exemplary, and the food and drinks first-rate (even though we always escape for one dinner at the Fourways Inn); in short, everything was first-class and we thank Tom, Tim and the staff for making our short visit very satisfying. The weather was very nice - low 70'S, mostly sunny, breezy - a welcome respite from a dreary winter. We love visiting Bermuda at this time of year and then getting back to New England just as spring is breaking.

Room Tip: All rooms have spectacular ocean views. Just a matter of personal preference as to top level or gro...

We stayed at Pompano on the above dates and the trip was great despite the weather not fully cooperating. We used Air Canada from Toronto and the flights were on time and uneventful. The seatback screens are hit and miss. Some worked, some didn’t. We also took CEO Transport from the airport. They were there on time and made one stop at the Southampton Fairmont prior to dropping us at Pompano at around 1:30 pm. Return trip to the airport on departure day was again with CEO Transport and they were on time and efficient.

We stayed in a deluxe room, # 80, on upper floor. The view of the ocean was spectacular and the balcony overlooked the surf. The room had a king bed which was very comfortable. Two sinks in the large bathroom, separate tub and shower with good water pressure and no problems with hot water supply. Lots of channels on the television, a couple of Toronto channels to keep up with news from home (although it was nice to get away from Rob Ford news for a few days).

Had lunch the first day at the pool snack bar. We were impressed at the choices on the menu and the view can’t be beat. My wife got in the water on the first afternoon, said it was cool but comfortable. A few others swimming that day, some for long periods of time snorkelling. She also went the last afternoon we were there when the sun reappeared and the winds died down. She managed a few minutes in the water but said the ocean temperature had dropped a lot, probably due to high winds stirring things up.

Meals were great all week. We were on the meal plan and had dinner two times in the main dining room and three times in the room overlooking the water. The menus at both are great. The main dining room menu changes nightly and requires no reservations while the lower dining room has a set menu and requires reservations. Wines were $40+ but they will recork and serve you the same bottle if you don’t finish the bottle. Good selection of reds. Five courses available for those with a large appetite. Great appetizers, soups and salads. My wife raved about the seafood chowder and had it several times. Steaks I had were good but could have been more tender. Cooked to the right doneness/colour but not as tender as I have at home when buying similar Angus AAA. I had the rack of lamb twice at the lower restaurant, the second time because it had been so good a few nights earlier. It didn’t disappoint the second time either. Dessert every night was great. Breakfast was served in the main dining room every day, either a la carte or on two days we had a very good buffet. The usual choices of eggs cooked anyway you want, fruits, waffles, French toast, etc with great bacon.

We had temperatures ranging from 18-22 C (~ 65-73F) during the day. The weather was very windy. We went the same week that the storm hit the eastern seaboard and while we didn’t get the snow, we got sustained winds of 30-50 mph for two days with heavy rain at night. The high winds didn’t stop us from doing anything but the frequent cloud cover stopped my wife from seeing a sunset any night we were there which she had been looking forward to.

We used the bus to get around without any problems. We bought a $20 book of tickets from the front desk. Used those all up and bought another one which we didn’t finish so we have to return again to use them up. We took the ferry from Hamilton to Rockaway one day as well and were picked up at the ferry stop by the hotel van. We did the Dockyard, went to Hamilton a couple of times, went to the Aquarium and walked on the Railway trail in the four full days we were there. We went to relax and did just enough to keep busy and still be able to relax. Didn’t make it to St. George, next trip I guess.

The staff at Pompano are in a word, fantastic. Very friendly, greet you like old friends, offer great advice with any questions asked. This included all the front desk staff, waiters and waitresses, bartenders, drivers and Larry Lamb, the owner/manager. We were provided with rides to the bus stops every morning and walked the approximately 800 yards back to the resort from the main road at the end of the day. Being such a small resort (I think 75 rooms?), it was easy to meet people staying there. It was nice to compare ideas about where to go, what to see and how to get there with other guests at dinner and breakfast.

It had been about 16 years since we had been at Pompano. We liked the smaller size of the place compared to a hotel like the Fairmont Southampton. My wife and I both agreed that we will now attempt to return yearly if possible we enjoyed it so much. She has to see the sunset, I have to play golf at Port Royal and we have to get to St. George so we have unfinished business.

Stayed for 5 days. It's a beautifully located place. Excellent views. Arrang9e for a CEO collective transfer from airport through the Pompano Beach club website, at $15 it's probably the only island bargain. The hotel staff are very helpful, eager to please. As you've read , they will drive you to the bus stop, pick you up from a closeby ferry. There are several jaccuzis , some of them hot. The food onsite at the restaurants is expensive, not a 5 necessarily warranting the price, but your choice is limited. There is a coffee machine and a small fridge in your room. If the weather is agreeable your stay will be amazing !!

From March 11-19, 2014 we relaxed at Pompano. This is close to the end of the off season so the prices were great & every 4th night was free (not including taxes & such). Bermuda was not crowded, transportation was easy, & the temperatures were very comfortable. Ocean water was cold, but with wet suits you can stay out a long time.
Pros:
-The staff is amazing from the time we booked, to the front desk, to restaurant workers, to housekeeping & management, every one was friendly & helpful & very patient with our questions.
We felt welcome & at home the whole time.

-The location is beautiful. Restaurants with lovely views of the ocean & their beach. The ocean view from our room (#83) was tranquil. We watched long tail birds fly over the water.

-The manager, Tim, gave us another room after being shown a room with an adjoining door to the next door room. He moved our bags & put us in the room up a floor with out the adjoining door. Much nicer & quieter, so would recommend requesting this when booking if you like.

-All the tipping was included in our price, so we never tipped at the hotel all week. So nice.

-Lots of wood hangers & a good size closet in room 83.

-the balcony feels private with high walls on either side. Two loungers & two chairs & a little table furnished the space outside.

-All of the restaurants were clean, nicely decorated & had wonderful food brought by a good wait staff. We chose a breakfast & dinner inclusive plan & were not disappointed. They have a lot of silverware on the table which was fun, so brush up on your skills. :)

-There was always someone at the hotel available to drive you (no fee or tip) to the end of the long hotel entrance, the laundry room, the mini mart & the closest bus stop. We never had to wait long.

-A large bathroom with a big tub, a dimmer light, ceiling fan, good water pressure, bathrobes

-Their beach was great with a long shallow walk out area with soft sand. There's a large sandy area without rocks or sticks or planted sea weed. There was however a lot of loose sea weed the washed up on shore. They did run their tractor to clear it daily, but it was a bad season for sea weed. We had the beach to ourselves many times. There are plenty of chairs & loungers.

-There are many nooks & crannies to sit with an ocean view with floor to ceiling windows & have tea, or play a game. There are computers to use also.

-Tap water was good. Our bathroom had double sinks, and a bendable magnifying mirror.

Cons:
-The room we were moved to (#83) smelled of old cigarette smoke. There was a wall fragrance unit that helped. Since we'd asked to move, we just opened the door at every opportunity & used the ceiling fan a lot. The extra blanket smelled as did carpet & curtains, but it wasn't overwhelming & we managed fine. Just had to wash everything when we got home.

-Guests are allowed to smoke outside on the balconies. We were next to a smoker who did this, so some times we didn't sit outside. I believe they set off the smoke alarm in their room at night a few times smoking, but it didn't beep too long. Thankfully they weren't there the whole time we were there.

-Carpet & curtains were stained & felt grungy. They could just use a good deep cleaning. We wore flip flops in the room, so not a big problem.

-The front door is loose in the latch, so when the wind blows it will raddle. You'll hear other doors raddling too. We put saran wrap in the hole where the latch protrudes & this helped keep it tight. Not a big problem, just might take some getting used to at night when trying to sleep.

-Countertops in the bathroom are short. You must bend over to use the sink unless your less than average height. The countertops are soap stone (I believe) & stay wet a long time. We had plastic containers to keep things in that helped.

-There a many sets of stairs. Our room was on the top floor, so a dozen steps there. To get to the beach there are multiple sets of stairs. It is a hilly terrain & it's part of what makes the views so pretty. It helped us walk off all the good food. :) The staff helped with luggage.

Tips:
-Bring a rain coat. Rain popped up on a whim. We used a book bag to carry them around in when not in use.

-Cabs will not take credit cards. Cash only plus tip, so figure out what you might need before you go. To take money out of the ATM machine for us costs $5.00 & then 3% of the total taken out. Check with your bank.

-The Dockyard museum with the Commissioner's House was cash only also. I think it was $12.00 per adult to get in. The views from the ramparts & House porch were well worth it.

-Some day's it was very windy. I bought a scarf & used it on those days.

-If you can take a ferry, it's the best way to commute. Busses were clean & drivers would let you know if you asked them to tell you of your stop coming up. Taxi's were a bit pricy, but their gas is expensive & you can chat with the driver about Bermuda. We used a taxi for the long ride to St. George town & from the Botanical Garden to the Zoo, Elbow Beach (pinkest sand) then back to the hotel. Average taxi cost was around $50.00 with tip to go & get back to Pompano.
Taxi cost from airport to Pompano with 20% tip was $60.00. Rates may go up in April.

-Would recommend tea at the Fairmont Hamilton Princess. It's a long bus ride from Pompano.

-Remember your manors. People are so friendly & will help with directions, but greet them with a "Good Morning" first & end with a "Thank you & have a good day".

Bermuda was beautiful, clean, amazing ocean water & beached, & the people are happy & friendly. We had such a relaxing time. Would highly recommend a trip off season.

Room Tip: Of course the top level room had a great view without dealing with traffic overhead. Ask for a room...
