“A friendly family hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 July 2014

This hotel has a great location and a beautiful private beach. I stayed here with my husband and 2 kids. It is a very family friendly hotel. I see why people return here. The owners Larry and Tom are very visible and the staff is very friendly. Fishing rods are available to use whenever you want and you can fish right at the beach or at the on site marina. My son who is 10 loved this! We also went on a fishing boat through the hotel and brought back fish which the hotel staff cooked for us. The room we stayed in had a large bathroom, which I loved! The room was large with a king bed. There was also a couch which converted to a bed and they brought in a cot. I do feel the pool and hot tubs could use an upgrade. I would recommend this hotel to people who want to relax and enjoy the view!

Me, my wife, and my 2 daughters, 14 & 18, decided to take a relaxing trip this summer to a beautiful island. Everyone suggested Bermuda, a new destination for us. We're 15 yr Disney Vacation Club members and rarely travel outside DVC or it's partners. In other words, we're spoiled when it comes to high vacation expectations. To summarize, the Lamb family met those expectations and more. Are there slight imperfections that can be found?, of course. Even the Mouse isn't perfect. What works at Pompano are two things, a sense you're welcomed family and the beautiful blue Atlantic in it's backyard. In regard to the latter, why would you want to stay at a resort you need a shuttle to visit the beach? Pompano has gorgeous blue water off it's beach and has free unlimited chairs, toys, and umbrellas. Not to mention, the waters are very shallow with occasional local fish passing by. How cool is that? Like real estate, the best resorts have location, location , location. Pompano's location is one it's major assets. A huge plus. Another asset are the people. Larry and Tom (the owners) are working for their guests and their team follows their example. I personally witnessed all the exemplary service already reported. We stayed five nights, beginning 7/5, and I understand why so many I talked too are repeat customers. Other points to note, the wifi is excellent (maybe poor in the past but not now), the food is not only delicious but it's fun eating different things each night (rockfish , scallops, and filet mignon were A+). Also, the owners had a Rum Swizzle party one night that was fun and later we gathered around the TV to watch a World Cup match. Unplanned and fun. Finally, the charm of Bermuda and the friendliness of it's people is very evident. I'm glad we went . I'm also glad to report that the same charm and warmness also thrives at the Pompano Beach Club. That's my 2 cents. (now if they only served Turkey legs & Dole Whips.....)

My wife, 20 year old daughter and I just returned from 5 nights at Pompano Beach Resort. Recommended by friends who stay there all the time. Have traveled all over US and Europe and have never met nicer owners, Tom and Larry Lamb...or staff. Tom greeted us when we arrived and immediately made us feel like family. If you don't want people being genuinely friendly to you then don't stay here! We stayed in the Cuda Cottage, room 4 and my sister in law and her family stayed next door in room 3. Rooms were overly large. King bed and a sitting area with a pull out couch. Beautiful large bathroom...unbelievable views of the ocean! Since Cuda Cottage has only 2 rooms it was perfect for 2 families traveling together. Food was excellent...definitely do the MAP plan as you get full breakfast and dinner each day. You don't even need to eat lunch. Not sure why some people complain about the beach. Yes it was small but it was well maintained and the water is to die for! They also offer all kinds of water toys so you will not be bored. We did not feel the need to move off the private beach for 5 days. Tom and Larry hire the absolutely nicest, well behaved and helpful "interns"...college students, most of whom are getting degrees in Hotel Management. Port Royal Golf Course is right next door and they will give you a ride over to the course. All I can say is that we are very picky and I would have a hard time thinking of one thing that wasn't done well. The resort is built on the side of a hill so if you have trouble walking ask for a room closer to the main building. Will definitely be coming back!!

I stayed at Pompano for the first time in June of 2014 and was a bit hesitant. I had always picked the biggest hotel in the area when I traveled because it typically had the best amenities. I have never been to a hotel that could even hold a flame to this staff. It isn't your standard corporate attitude, you truly feel that you are being invited into their home. Larry drove us to the bus stop a couple times before we found out that he was the owner! Where else would that happen? The food, drinks, and beach are amazing. We decided to dine out one night to see the island, and were immediately disappointed that we weren't back at Pompano. It is clear from the beginning that Pompano is the only focus that the owners have. They do not look towards new projects or different businesses, they only look to improve an already amazing property.
If you ever have the chance to go to Bermuda, stay here.

Room Tip: Every room is amazing, but rooms 1 & 2 and situated directly over the boat dock. Lots of stairs...

Just returned from a last minute 4 n getaway to Bermuda - we had stayed at the reefs and loved it but it was sold out as many of the other hi end resorts were. The website does not reflect this property one bit. The rooms are much nicer and the beach is much smaller. Bottom line is if you are looking for a family fun, no frills, intimate relaxed place - this one is great. It needs a major makeover/update to compete w other resorts - but the view - the water and the staff are terrific. George the head waiter was amazing and tried his best to make us happy. One dinner was amazing - one dinner was terrible. Clambake was great! Fitness center was gross and smelled I mildew as did the game room - the spa is one room so not really a spa but the massage service was amazing!
Beds are comfortable and room had a great view. Go for a deluxe near the reception area.
The owners are always on the premise and really love their job however need to really improve some things to keep ppl returning - it's not cheap and there are nicer resorts for the money.
Overall we had a great time - and everyone was friendly and there's nothing like Bermudas water. Definite need some improvements until we go back -

We have been to Bermuda 6 or so times. This resort is old and seriously needs work. The room we were assigned was not what we anticipated. They gladly changed our room to another but it was high up on the hill, a long walk down. Even longer going up. Unless you get a ride from hotel staff in a golf cart up the hill which was ok and they never hesitate to help.
The beach was small which would be ok if kept up. Broken table and chair sat thrown against rocks all week. No towels at beach level. Must attain them from pool area. Then carry them back up to bin. Beach bar ran out of certain rums and fruit juices.
Food choices "sound" amazing but being foodies we we're let down. Service was so slow one morning we waited a half hour for them to take our order. And at least another half hour for anything to arrive. Mind you the dining room was not crowded. There is a bird problem in the dining room. They need to fix that too.
While the staff for the most part was friendly, the older woman at the pool bar seemed annoyed to wait on you. The same goes for bartender the very small interior bar in the evening.
The entertainment was mediocre at best.
Will not return.

TLIII, Managing Director at Pompano Beach Club, responded to this review, 10 July 2014
Let me start by saying that we sincerely regret that we did not live up to your expectations. We understand that everyone is entitled to their opinion. It sounds like we may not have been the type of resort you were looking for. To say we are "old and seriously need work" is just not true. Sure we've been around for close to 60 years, however, we continue to make enhancements to our facilities and services every year - something that our numerous repeat guests comment favorably on each time they visit. I could go on and on about the renovations we make to our resort each year, but I'd prefer to let the overwhelming majority of other positive Trip Advisor reviews speak for themselves.

Our private beach may be small at high tide, but, we've got the best swimming area in all of Bermuda (on the incredibly shallow sandbar that sits in front of our beach). Most of our guests are amazed and delighted by this! We groom our beach with a tractor every morning and during the day when necessary - trying to keep it in excellent condition. We apologize if a broken chair or table was not removed from the beach area in a timely manner. Our beach attendants and managers check the beach several times per day . If any debris washes up, we try to remove it as soon as we can. Regarding your disappointment that our beach and pool area towels are not stocked at the beach, everyone should note that we supply a large inventory of towels on our pool deck (which you need to pass by if you are heading down to our beach) and we don't make you sign for them. You can take as many towels as you want and we certainly don't require you to "carry them back to the bin". In fact, most guests leave them lying on their beach chaises and our beach attendants collect them throughout the day. As you know, many big hotels make you sign for towels and usually limit you to one per person. I think our beach & pool towels program is quite "guest friendly" if you ask me! We don't typically stock a wide variety of rums at our beach bar since it was not designed to be a full bar (like those located at our pool and in our main lobby). We always have plenty of fruit juices on hand so hopefully we were able to get you the ones you requested (?).

If you are "foodies" as you say you are, I'm very surprised that you were disappointed in the cuisine we offered. We've received numerous positive feedback regarding the high quality of our cuisine for several years now, however, we understand that your perception is all that really matters. I'm sorry if our two bartenders (who've been with us for over 20 years each) weren't more friendly and attentive to you. I've passed along your comments to them. Our Bermudian entertainers are all very talented - with most of them having performed at our resort for several years. Sorry if you only thought they were "mediocre". Fortunately, we receive a lot of positive feedback about them too.

We know that Trip Advisor gives everyone the chance to speak their minds. I'm just sorry that you were so disappointed in your stay. We take a lot of pride in the service we give and the quality of our facilities. Sorry we let you down.

We're just back from celebrating our 40th anniversary with our first visit to Bermuda in 35 years. Chose Pompano largely based on TripAdvisor reviews, and they exceeded our every expectation. We stayed in a Superior Room that was spacious and immaculately clean. The view of the Atlantic was breathtaking.
We were greeted personally by the owners, shown to our room by one of the many interns from world-class hospitality schools, and seated in the Ocean Grill by an elegant lady who has worked for 42 years with the family that owns Pompano. It seemed that everyone we met had stayed at Pompano several times in the past (the gentleman from Virginia who came with 9 grandchildren in tow probably set the record: he estimated that it was his 25th visit.) Whenever we asked for any thing, large or small, the staff always seemed genuinely happy to be able to be of service. We don't see this quality of guest service anymore in other locales.
Our 6 night stay didn't give us an opportunity to begin to try all of the offerings in the Pompano dining rooms. Every meal was thoughtfully crafted, elegantly presented, and genuinely enjoyable. The only thing missing was pretentiousness. The maitre d's and serving staff made every dining experience special, in a relaxed Bermudian way.
The local song says that "Bermuda is Another World". We found that Pompano Beach Club was Another World within Another World.
Kudos to the Lamb family for maintaining an extraordinary resort, where everyone feels like family . See you again, soon.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Bonita Cottage...spacious, quiet, immaculate, world-class view...
