The tour of the Garrison area was well worth it - a three hour tour with knowledgeable and enthusiastic tour guides, it included a live video feed to one of the guides in the tunnels which link the various building throughout the garrison site. A tour of The Washington House, St Annes Fort and privileged access to the Barbados Defence force fort which includes a stop in the officers mess for a rum punch and a tour of the Barbados National Armoury - where a large collection of old cannons are displayed.
This was an interesting tour giving a brief history of the fort complex with the admission price helping fund the protection of the site, it was the best tour I had on the island. This tour will get better as well when some areas of the tunnel complex open to the public.

Really enjoyed the trip to the Garrison and even caught a horse race which was awesome! Enjoyed the statues and the George Washington House...Got to see the jockeys and horses up close and personal!! Even got some shaved iced from a local vendor!

we visited the garrison as part of an amazing day, touring the historical sites as part of the Garrison tour. James and Peter were fantastic as said before here, but wow! what a job---they are so enthusiastic!!!. the George Washington house was very interesting,--not'old' to us Brits, but very well preserved, it must be fun to do the dinners that they host. the kitchens were full of artifacts, some of which we still use(but made of plastic ) today.
Changing of the guard was in true Bajan style--they waited to do it whilst the rain hammered down, once it eased, it took place--wonderful chaps and so immaculate. The old forts were interesting...shame about the Hilton---spoiling the view. The Armory was very interesting, seeing the guns. All in all, its another place to pay another visit to on our return. Happy tunnelling guys!!---may you find your door!

We visited the Garrison as part of the Garrison tour. First of all I must say that James and Peter did an excellent job presenting the Garrison and the George Washington House! The tour gives you a glimpse into Barbados history, it's importance and Heritage. You get a guided tour around the Garrison, the Coastal fortress, banquet hall, and the Armory where I was excited to find a cannon made in Moss, Norway :) Also you get to view the changing of the guards as it was done hundreds of years ago.

If you are interested in Colonial history this is the tour to go on!

They change the sentry at 11:45am on a Wednesday, which makes for a very hot hour, watching a very small marching band and a staged, for tourists, changing of the sentry. However, the area around the Garrison is worth a visit to see an historic part of Barbados, worth doing once!
