It is located in downtown Bridgetown near the Parliament. It is a lovely historical church with a very old grave yard. A nice place to visit.

Large imposing structure with some highlights from a long time ago. Inside the church is very plain and speaks to the roots and current situation of Barbados. The priest was very friendly and welcomed us to his church and had us participate in the mass that was going on. All the parishioners welcomed us as well.

It's small by European standards but holds a certain charm. You wont need more than 1/2 hour to go round and the graveyard has many impressive old tombs.

St Michael's began as a parish church but was elevated to cathedral status upon the establishment of the Diocese of Barbados (Anglican). It doesn't have the grandeur of so many European cathedrals, but it is a beautiful church, nevertheless. Clearly, it was built for worship rather than to prove the wealth of its builders. No statues, no frescoes, no ceiling artwork. It reminds me of a few of the colonial era protestant churches of Philadelphia in its simple style and in its adjoining graveyard.

The graveyard is worth a visit. It is now somewhat rundown and in disrepair, apparently as the result of a hurricane. Many of the graves date from the 1600s and 1700s and house important officials and military officers of that era.

When we visited, the apse of the church was draped, so apparently some repair or renovation was underway. Despite some need of restoration, the church is well maintained and reflects great pride.

St Michael's is not a splendid cathedral of the Westminster Abbey type. It is not fancy but impressive nevertheless. It has a lot to offer. The graveyard has many impressive old tombs of people who were "important" in their day. It is well worth a wander. The cathedral's exterior is hard to photograph due to the huge trees situated at just the wrong angles. The Cathedral is open for visitors to wander around. It is larger than it looks from the outside. It is quite a peaceful place in the bustle of downtown Bridgetown. There is a large set of pipes up in the organ loft. Many old plaques are affixed to the interior walls, some telling very sad stories. We were glad that we visited St. Michael's.
