“Many great old buildings around Careenage”
Reviewed 23 September 2013

To see the Careenage area, with its moored boats of all sizes and many old naval buildings, there are two possibliities. If you are fit and can devote some time to a long walk around the area, that is no doubt best. If, like us, you prefer to absorb the sights from a rental car, you can easily do that - perhaps parking the car at some stage to take a drink at the Waterfront Bar, enjoying the view. Everyone warns you of the horrendous traffic problems in Bridgetown. However, none is evident if you drive round the Careenage area around 9-10 on a Saturday morning. You will have the roads nearly to yourself! We drove in from St Lawrence Gap, through Worthing and Hastings along the main coast-road and this led us directly to the Careenage.

“The waterfront scene where schooners careen”
Reviewed 29 July 2013

This watery inlet in the heart of the business area now provides mooring for the tourist catamarans. Schooners used to be careened on their sides to scrape off the barnacles. A public park provides seating for visitors to enjoy the scene overlooked by government office blocks.

“Excellent stroll in town”
Reviewed 14 June 2013

Opportunity to mix in with the locals, walking on the boardwalk along the Careenage, crossing the bridges and visiting the local fruit & vegetables stalls around.
