Although this iconic oval has had a major facelift in recent years and perhaps lost a bit of its original charm, I wanted to visit for my late father who loved cricket – I remember when I was as a young lad, Dad would stay up all night to watch our Aussies take on the West Indies…. Jump forward 20 years or so and my wife and I visited for the 20/20 final 2014 between Spartan and Wanderers. Earlier, we were out exploring Bridgetown – word to the wise, don’t bother doing this on a Sunday – it is like a ghost town as most are in church or at home. We decided just to walk the couple of km’s to the ground to get some exercise. Oddly, it is in a heavily industrial area of town so there were really no shops open save for the service station across the road. There are a couple of bars down by the marina though these were closed also. So we pretty much had about 3-4 hours doing nothing before the game started in the early evening. Once finally inside, the 3W's stand (the only one in use for this game) started filling up and we grabbed a few banks beers and some chicken & chips and took our seats. It gets pretty lively as the locals obviously take their cricket very seriously. It was a decent game under lights with Spartan ending comfortable victors.
