8 nights at the Settlers. The Staff are smart and professional. The location was terrific. Accommodations were very comfortable with an extremely well equipped kitchen (not that it was used that much). The on site restaurant 'Spago' was the weak point with simple dishes that really lacked any flair or depth of taste. Having said that, the thin crust pizza we enjoyed at lunch was good but sadly the dinner menu just does not stand up.
We ate at some superb restaurants. I recommend the dining next door at The Sandpiper, superb service and one of the finest renditions of a foie gras appetizer I have ever enjoyed. Daphne's was good but does not live up to the hype in terms of service, a very attractive and stylish staff came over as being a bit pompous. Cin Cin was excellent with superb food and an enthusiastic and efficient staff. Tides was close to perfect with a great bar staff of talented mixoligists and a wonderful menu nicely prepared. The Cliff was as it should be in its stunning location, special! Leaves a sting in the wallet though!
A little Indian restaurant around the corner from Settlers was credible if you crave a decent curry. The Vindaloo provided all the heat I could handle. A sushi restaurant (the name escapes me) at the end of the same road as the Indian, Sitar was very good. Owned by a most amiable Englishman the welcome was warm and real.
At the Settlers' the GM, a Kiwi by the name of Vanessa runs a tight ship and one that I would recommend to everyone. Book it, you will not be dissapointed.

Room Tip: The villas to the rear of the property get a lot of road noise but its not too intrusive

We stayed here Nov 21st - 28th, 5th time on the island, to keep it brief this in our opinion was first class self catering ( not that we did any we just ate out ) accommodation situated on a supurb small stretch of beach, crystal clear sea yards from your villa door, just 5 mins stroll from Holetown.
Huge spacious villa some bungalow style some two storey we could not beleive the size of the place, clean nicely furnished new air con in all bedrooms, excellent friendly helpful staff, would reccomend to anyone and gladly return.
Excellent value for money.

Room Tip: Villa number 7 can be one or two bedrooms literally 30 yards to the beach, faultless.

I have just returned from Settlers beach and it was great. I stayed with two friends sharing a two bed, two story house which was very spacious and comfortable. My only critisism was that there was no air conditioning downstairs and it became very hot especially in the evenings when we resorted to sitting upstairs in the air conditioned bedrooms to keep cool.

Our house (no. 12) was very nicely furnished we did have a few maintenance problems but these were immediatley put right including a brand new cooker which arrived a couple of hours after we reported that the oven wouldn't work.
Some of the other houses and bungalows we saw looked a little tired but we heard that the complex has been sold and is about to undergo a renovation programme.

The beach is small but idilic with no trouble getting a sunbed. The pool is well maintained and a very pleasant area.

Shops, including a very well stocked supermarket just a few minutes away, taxi's just across the road.

Everyone in Barbados made us so welcome and I will return just as soon as I can.

Room Tip: If there are more than two of you request a house instead of a bungalow.

This review is a little late - we stayed here for 6 days after 6 days at Colony Club, last November 2010. We had a 2 bedroomed villa which unfortunately was next to the road. Provided we kept the windows closed on the roadside of the villa, the noise was not too bad (mainly kitchen and bathroom windows). The villa was spacious, comfortable and very clean and the staff were very helpful and friendly. However, an unwelcome visitor managed to gain access to our kitchen through a hole in the fly screen at the kitchen window - it would be adviseable to check flyscreens throughout the property when you arrive to avoid this happening. The problem was dealt with quickly, apologies made and we did not pursue any kind of compensation for the slight disruption to our holiday. The lady (possibly housekeeper) - cannot remember her name - dealt with the problem and was reasonably sympathetic and came over the next day to enquire if we were happy. It would perhaps have been a nice gesture if the Manager had spoken to us but he seemed to keep out of our way.

The grounds are very pretty and the pool is nice and secluded with a fair bit of shade cast over the water in the afternoon - ideal for water baby children if you are concerned about sun exposure. I don't think there was a particularly shallow section for small children. The situation of Settlers Beach is ideal as it's right beside the sea. When the tide was in there was virtually no beach when we were there, when the tide was out there was enough room for a few sun loungers on the sand. Bear in mind we are only talking about a 3 or 4 metre difference! When we were there, there was quite a heavy swell but once beyond the breakers the swimming was wonderful and calm. It was fairly easy to get in to the sea from the Sandpiper beach, just a few metres away - less stones and coral. Of course, these conditions no doubt change continually. Incidentally, pool/beach towels are available. .

The on site restaurant - Spagos - was a bit of a disappointment. We felt it was a waste of a superb situation. Good however for a lunch time pizza with a beer or rum punch but medicocre for dinner in the evening. I'm writing this in July 2011 and our visit was in November last year, so things may have changed. Spagos is of course open to the public, not for the sole use of Settlers' Beach guests. They advertise breakfasts but when we were there, they were never open at breakfast time. The Sandpiper next door has a super restaurant and their weekly buffet night is not to be missed. Not cheap but that's typical of the West coast of Barbados.

Overall, I would say this is a great place for families and anyone looking for a quiet and reasonably peaceful self catering holiday, except perhaps for those in properties adjacent to the road. Our bedroom upstairs had glass doors opening on to a large balcony with gorgeous views over the grounds towards the sea and although we were next to the road, provided we kept the bathroom window closed, we were unaware of traffic noise at night and slept very well. The villas are either two storey or bungalows and are cleaned daily. Although the villa was very spacious, bright and light, I would probably return to a hotel next year (ideally Colony Club). As already mentioned, this is a great place for young families, although there were quite a few 'couples only' when we were there.

It was just a short walk into Holetown with it's shops and a good sized supermarket.

Room Tip: Check fly screens!! Avoid villas next to road if possible.

This was our first visit to settllers beach hotel , had a great villa very spacious with everything in it just like home.
The best part of this holiday at settlers beach was the onsite restaurant (spago's)
Very friendly staff and the food was excellent, not a fast delivery of food but that was because everything was cooked fresh to order. The outlay and the setting of the restaurant was first class and very romantic.
The manager (Nick) was very attentative and so welcoming just what you need in a restaurant where there are so many alternative restaurants to choose from in Hole town and nearby areas
We Would definately return in the near future.

This was our 3rd time to this beautiful Island but our 1st to Settlers Beach we loved it!! The Villa was home from home, the beach idyllic, the staff friendly and very helpful and we would come back tomorrow if we could. Everything is in within walking distance so you can visit the lovely restaurants if you wish or buy at the supermarket and use the superb facilities at Settlers.....thank you to all the staff for such a lovely holiday....and hope to see you all soon.

This was our third trip to Barbados, but first time at Settlers Beach. It has about 22 bungalows & town houses on the beach, set among beautifully maintained tropical gardens. We stayed in a 2 bedroom town house which was very spacious & spotlessly clean. The house was very well equipped, including ample kitchen equipment, washer/dryer, clock radio in bedrooms ; there is no dishwasher or TV (although there is a TV & computer in the residents lounge, also free wi-fi throughout the complex). The bedrooms have air conditioning and there's a ceiling fan in living area. Plentiful towels, including beach towels changed daily. The staff were lovely - very friendly and couldn't do enough to help with any query or request. Just a few minutes walk away are the bars, restaurants and shops of Holetown. We didn't bother hiring a car as the bus stops were 2 minutes walk away & the frequent local buses are a cheap & convenient way to get round the island.
Spago's restaurant on site was disappointing - the food was ok but the staff (particularly at night when we dropped in for a sundowner on the terrace) were offhand & unwelcoming .The beach is small , but there are plenty of other beaches locally, some with beach bars & sunbeds for hire (all beaches in Barbados are freely accessible to the public). We would definitely return to Settlers Beach.
