“We love this place”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 January 2014

We have just completed another wonderful holiday in Payne’s Bay. Once again, we stayed at the comfortable Coral Lane Apartments. We had a studio apartment with a balcony facing the ocean and enjoyed sunsets each evening.
The apartment is simple but functional and comes with air conditioning, which for those of us from the north find it very useful. We prepared breakfast each day and had the fridge stocked with food and beverages.
The beach is on the other side of the road but is less than a 100 yards from the apartment. Potential guests should be aware that there are a few resident roosters in the neighborhood, which quite frankly, along with the nearby goats, add a bit of character to the environment.
Coral Lane Apartments are owned and managed by Dawn and Jeoffrey Thompson who are very responsive to our needs and a joy to meet.
We hope to be coming back to Coral Lane Apartments for years to come.

Just returned from 9 nights at Coral Lane. It had been recommended by a friend and we were completely happy! Another reviewer commented on this place being inadequate as a hotel which seems a completely inappropriate criticism since these are apartments and the owners make no claim whatsoever that they are running a hotel. If you are looking for a hotel and to be pampered with staff serving your every need, then face it - this is not the place for you. But if you are an independent spirit and prefer to set your own pace and take care of your own needs, then this place is great.

Owners Dawn and Jeoffrey are very nice folks - very accommodating, friendly, and accessible, as seems the norm in Barbados. Patricia (Cleaning staff) comes in three times per week and keeps the place in top shape. Others have questioned whether there really is a laundry facility on site. We did not use it, but Patricia certainly did, so it does exist - on one of the lower floors it seemed.

The apartments have all that you need to cook your own food if you want. Or, eating out is easy as the area is littered with options ranging from the higher end (for example "The Cliff", Scarlett, or Daphne's - each within about 300 meters either way) to simpler fare such as roti and burger shops. There are full grocery stores within two kilometres north or south - take your pick.

The beds in our unit (the one bedroom) were very comfy. The only thing that took some getting used to was the roosters that seem to roam freely around the neighbourhood - and likely the whole island I imagine. They can be noisy, but of course such things depend on the individual. I was not all that bothered b them, but my wife and son were a few times. But I should add that although Barbados is a very developed place, the attitudes toward livestock seem to remain rather rural - we saw roosters, goats, and horses in places we would not have expected right in residential areas. I mention this as a way of suggesting that rooster crowing is something you might have to contend with just about anywhere on the island and not particular to this accommodation. On the flip side, standing on the balcony and watching monkeys roam about below in the morning was rather delightful and immensely exciting for our 6 yr old son.

The apartments are behind the Methodist Church in Payne's Bay. When you leave the apartment, the walk to the beach is literally a few hundred feet away. You do have to cross a roadway to get to it, but that is no problem. Once on the beach you can walk for several kilometres and get to lots of stuff. Unless you want to drive on your own to more remote parts of the island or have a mobility issue, you can also get away with just taking buses as the area is well served and a one way trip only costs $2BBD ($1 USD).

We really enjoyed it and if we plan another trip to Barbados would certainly check availability at Coral Lane.

We had a large group (19) come to Coral Lane in February 2013- what an ideal place to stay, with the comfortable studio suites, one bedroom and the Breezeway for gatherings and liming. The rooms are fresh and clean. Dawn and Jeffrey were more than accommodating to our needs and questions. Some of us stayed 10 days, us luckier ones stayed a month!
The beach is just across the street with amazing snorkeling, and there is an amazing beach walk into Holetown- approx. 40 minute walk including a swim if you want- you arrive to town at the Surf Side beach bar where you can award yourself with a coconut daiquiri, banks beer, or whatever you choose (try the fishcakes). Holetown has restaurants, grocery, banks, duty free, etc. Coral Lane is convenient to Holetown and Bridgetown by bus, minibus, taxi or car. Dawn and Jeffrey get many repeat visitors; I think it's because of the accommodation, their friendly service and the location.
Try it, you won't be sorry. Note- they don't pretend to be a hotel, it is a beach apartment accommodation with very attentive owners. Thanks also to Patricia, the housekeeper for keeping our space tidy and putting up with us all!

Room Tip: The best rooms are the2nd floor ocean front with balcony. To do for adults- Raggamuffins Drag sho...

This is a simple apartment-style place with very limited amenities. The rooms offer basic cooking facilities and are clean. On the other hand, there is a certain amount of noise from the road and other local activities. It is operated by a pleasant family and offers proximity to the beach and the bus.

We spent 14 thoroughly enjoyable days at the Coral Lane Apartments during January 2013. The beach view studio apartments are just the other side of the main road and only about 200 yards from the sea. It is within easy walking distance of other hotels and restaurants in the area. It was wonderful to watch the sunsets and have the benefit of a kitchenette at a fraction of the prices of the nearby beach hotels.
Lounge chairs and umbrellas are available to rent nearby, from fascinating characters on the beach.
The owners of Coral Lane, Dawn and Jeoffrey Thompson are a delight. They were very friendly and quite helpful throughout our stay.
We found the studio room basic but clean and comfortable, which was exactly what we wanted. Because the building is on the opposite side of the beach road, there are residential neighbors, with a couple of roosters and a few goats, which frankly adds some character to the place.
We intend to come back to this excellent ‘value for money’ apartment.

My husband and I stayed at Coral Lane Beach Apartments over a three month period and thoroughly enjoyed our experience there.

The apartments are located on the expensive West Coast of Barbados. They are across the street from a beautiful beach and afford easy access to public buses.

Our apartment was a little gem. Simply and tastefully decorated and very comfortable. Other reviewers have said the bathrooms were too small, well ours was small but certainly no smaller than comparable accommodations around the world and definitely not so small that my 6'3" husband couldn't use it comfortably.

Finally, the owners Jeff and Dawn are the loveliest people you could ever meet. Warm, welcoming, and kind. They were always available by phone whenever we needed something. What they offer is not luxury accommodation, but it's ideal for people who want a comfortable, affordable place near the beach for a fraction of the price of nearby hotels.

We are really looking forward to returning to Barbados and will definitely be staying at Coral Lane when we do.
