“In transition........things will only get better”

We have been to this resort many times before as it offers good value for money and an excellent central location. Elite resorts have recently taken over and are investing in the property and staff to good effect. Things will only get better.

Yes the rooms are still tired but how long do you stay in your room? The food in the restaraunts is good, the drinks at the bar are palatable, and the staff are excellent! Add the location where it's easy to catch a bus to Holetown or Bridgetown and you can't go too far wrong.

Make sure you make full use of the free watersports for boat rides, water skiing etc.

Room Tip: Avoid ground floor garden rooms unless you like being in a goldfish bowl.

Dear Gerry and Kevin

I do not know how to thank you and your amazing staff for a vacation of a lifetime. And there is only one word I can think of to describe our entire anniversary day (from our breakfast and ending with an amazing anniversary dinner on the beach) “MAGNIFICENT”. It will be an anniversary neither of us will ever forget. This resort, the friendly service, and your attention to detail was outstanding.
They say referrals are the highest form of flattery, so we hope we may flatter The Club, Barbados for years to come.
Please thank your staff for us, and please let your Chef know that our anniversary dinner was remarkable and one of the best we have ever eaten.

With sincere appreciation and gratitude,

Doug
To everyone reading his review, all I can say is “If you have never visited The Club Barbados, you have never visited paradise”.

Room Tip: Be sure to book far enough in advance to request a beach front view with a balcony.

having read many previous reviews we knew the resort was in an upgrade phase and things may not be up together. However in the main we have been very happy with our stay at this resort.

We changed rooms because the ground floor rooms have no privacy and it was all handled very efficiently and with no fuss at all within an hour. The $300 deposit was known about but seems a little steep and if you don't have a credit card it could be a problem, the staff are excellent all very polite and no real attitude at all, the Bajan people are very polite and to the point so perhaps their natural courtesy could be misunderstood. the bar and restaurant service couldn't be faulted with lovely fresh food every day and local and European tastes are all covered. We think the house wine is not very nice but hey it was free after all!!

The sunbed situation is a bit reminiscent of Spain and the morning rush to put towels down , but we didn't want to join in and there was always something to be found. The beach is small but local larger ones are nearby for swimming. Getting there at high tide can be fun as the sea comes right in to the walls and can be very rough! I do think there should be more umbrellas as there is limited shade to be found and these sunbeds go at probably about 6am!

The entertainment is a bit old fashioned but ok, The Wifi is free but very slow at times a more powerful system would be a useful upgrade.

The local shops are good with a fully stocked supermarket 15 minutes walk away, the local buses are great value at $2 per trip but can get very crowded, it's all part of the culture.

The birds in the restaurant are normal for Barbados and you just have to go with it, the food is well covered and they won't bother you .

All in all a good improvement and we would come back again .

Room Tip: not the ground floor garden rooms

The receptionist we had on booking in was a bit of a misery but I must say that on my next visits I found that all other receptionists were really helpful. We were in room 230 overlooking the pools and on arrival we were a bit disappointed with the furniture which was well dated however I believe that this is slowly being updated by the new management. The room itself was very well laid out with nice and quiet aircon. Tv in the bedroom as well as the lounge, fridge and coffee machine provided. Good size shower and bathroom and a separate toilet. The balcony overlooking the pools was huge with 2 chairs and a small table also a fan and light. The main restaurant was well positioned overlooking the sea and beach. Most nights it was waiter service only one night buffet in my week there. The food was excellent with a really good choice. We did try Enids one night( a separate restaurant that specialises in Bajan cooking ) and found the service and the food was top class. There is 3 pools and a jacuzzi. The grounds are well maintained and really well laid out plenty of shade if required. The beach is almost non existent but if you just walk a few yards away from the hotel either left or right there are really good beaches. There is the usual problem of people putting towels on beds early to secure the best places but we never had a day that we couldn't secure a bed somewhere. This is an all-inclusive hotel that only caters for adults. The bars were never crowded and the staff were friendly and efficient. We would love to return

Room Tip: Most rooms overlook the pools if you want to overlook the beach be prepared to pay extra

The check in receptionist was a little surly but met her a few times during the holiday and she was very nice so maybe things were on her mind that night - it happens to all of us.
Room 137 was nicely decorated and clean. The furniture a bit worn but quite attractive and a bed to die for - so big and comfy. We grew so attached to our room which was thoroughly cleaned every day. There was minor problems like needing a monkey wrench to turn the shower knob but we just got on with it.I like football so it was nice to see the odd footy match on TV even though it wasn't the result i wanted
Breakfast selection was good and at lunch there was an adequate buffet selection too in an airy restaurant. Lots of birds flying round the restaurant but can't see how they can stop it short of hiring a falconer and i did notice whilst walking past The Sandy Lane one morning that they had our feathered friends dive bombing through their beach restaurant too.
Evening meals were tasty either in the main restaurant or upstairs in Enid's.The majority of the staff were excellent but i think maybe not sufficient when it got really busy.
Watersports were good (and free) and the gym was adequate. Activities were plentiful and well advertised.
If there was a negative it was witnessing people placing their towels on sun beds as early as 7am then disappearing back to their rooms. Very selfish act.
The location is very good for walking along the beach either south (when the tides right) or to the north. Good for running too.
The entertainment was good most nights and the service at the bars was very good. I thought that the bottled beer upstairs in the Rum bar and the Piano bar was better than the draught beer.
So, a really nice hotel and met some nice people too.

Room Tip: Garden rooms fine by me, 137 away from the bar area

Since taking over last year you can see a lot of work has been done and it is still being improved. The Welcome was superb and the staff always ready to help. We had a couple of problems in the room, the settee was a bit tired, it was changed within an hour of mentioning it. The tap in the bathroom was loose, it was replaced within 12 hours. The food was great with a good choice and plentiful even if you ate late. The waiting staff were all happy and helpful and it was clear they wanted us to enjoy ourselves. The location is beautiful and even though the Club doesn't have a great expanse of beach in front there are miles of beaches either side only 100yds away.
The bottom line? Yes we will come back and would recommend the hotel as a great place to stay.

Having been to the Caribbean some 20 times and stayed in budget through to high end all inclusive, I have to say that the Club Barbados is right there at the top and much of this is down to the very friendly and helpful staff, they made our holiday! The resort is very good in parts, good in most and just a little 'tired' in one or two aspects.

We had a superior Ocean front room, big bedroom and huge bed, a sitting room and being on the ground floor we had a veranda with a wonderful ocean view. The positioning of the room for the sunset was perfect. Ok, the bathroom could do with an upgrade but it did not detract from the overall comfort of the room. Just a simple thing, but a kettle in addition to the filter coffee machine would have made this even more homely.

The staff and service was excellent, they couldn't do more to be helpful. We ate at Enid's twice and the Sunset restaurant for all other meals. The food was of a high standard, great variety and always appealing. This Resort does not purport to be a haute cuisine establishment but what it does, it does very well!

The pools were clean and so inviting, yes the beach directly in front of the hotel is small - but big enough for the hotel guests, and to those who complained on here about this, I can only assume you must have a severe motor disability, as 200 metres to the left of the hotel is a huge uncluttered beach just made for romantic walking along hand in hand.

The entertainment is varied and of variable quality, the latter actually adding to the amusement. This is a 4+ star hotel not a 5 star and we thoroughly enjoyed what was on offer from the entertainment, it is what you make of it, so if you are a professional complainer who does not want to enjoy your holiday, then you might not like the entertainment.

Would I come here again, an emphatic yes, would I recommend to friends, a further emphatic yes.

We know there are new owners and re-building reputation will be key, you have our vote. This was an exceptionally good value holiday that exceeded our expectations.
