“Lovely hotel for 1st time in Barbados”
Reviewed 5 July 2014 via mobile

My husband and I went to this hotel as part of the prize won with virgin holidays. The hotel is small but that added to the charm as we do not like large resorts. We were put in a seaview suit which was lovely. The room was clean and comfortable. We had a lounge area which was an open balcony. This was lovely to sit on in the evening but too hot in the daytime as you do not get a lot of circulating air from the fan. We had daily visitors on our balcony in the form of birds, tip: don't leave towels out to dry as the birds tend to peck at them or poo on them.
The pool area looked very clean and with plenty of loungers however we did not use this area we preferred the view on the "beach" area at the back. The trees at the back provided some shade which was good. The resort does not have its own beach but as the beaches are public this meant we could walk on others if we wished. The only problem with this was that some of the beach vendors would walk through frequently and if the security weren't at hand could be a bit pushy. Generally the vendors were very nice and with a no thanks from you would leave you alone.
The food was quite nice although as fully inclusive we found it a little strange that you had to pay extra for things like a lobster tail which in Barbados would be seen more available.
All the waiting staff were very good and would keep you topped up with drinks and water.
We did a trip into Bridgetown which was really easy on the bus, buses are very cheap and run every 5mins or so.
All in all a lovely weeks holiday.

This is the first time im writing a review whilst still on location. Its my first time to the Caribbean and Barbados and let me tell you its everything and more I anticipated. The journey from the airport to the hotel was short and scenic. The bajians are just the loveliest, warmest most accommodating people iv ever met. Granted the rooms could do with a refurb but the view of the sea is breathtaking, the pool area although small is stunning, clean and so sunny in every spot. Even Nigel the pool guy is just so friendly and lovely. I would recommend all inc as the food is simply incredible. So much choice and everything taste as good as the last thing. The bar staff are adorable Cheryl and Sophia have been just amazing there is no other words. You are a stone throw away from the beach - albeit its not much of a beac bit a short walk to the left is sandy lane the most expensive hotel and beach on the island and to the right a charming glorious deserted piece of beach. We also did a day trip on the tiami catamaran cruise and swam with the turtles and snorkeled in the coral reef. Its was mind blowing how beautiful the whole experience and the day was. I literally can not recommend to you enough coming to Barbados, coming to this hotel and soaking this incredible experience for yourself. I would have paid double and still been happy. Don't want to go home x

Warnings for anyone about to book:

I have just arrived 02 July 2014 with my 18 year old son. Holiday booked with British Airways-

02 July 2014 - 12 July 2014

1- there is no beach; we were advised we can use the lovely beaches either side of the Club Barbados...but we would have to 'time our walk' as the sea breaks against a high wall. BA you have a couple of pictures with sun loungers on the beach but from the other angle you will show the high wall and wooden steps to enter the water.

To confirm this as an observation the Hobbie Sailing boat is launched down a steep wooden slip like a Life Boat...

Now I understand why there are no children under 16 welcome...

2- on check in they needed to put US300 on my VISA card as a deposit. -BA you need to mention this in your brochure.

3- Safety deposit box requires a deposit of US117.50 incase the key is lost or 'the box goes missing'.

4- We booked a twin room but on arrival there was one nice bed and the other was a temporary bed popped in by the door having removed all the furniture from the room to make space... Not acceptable position.

5- the room is next to the busy main road so not much chance of too much sleep. Room 250!

6- Flip flops- on out first night in the main restaurant, my son and I were refused. We looked well dressed in line with their policies but my smart leather flip flops were not acceptable. Shoes only policy. We sat in reception trying to negotiate. British Airways checked their own brochure and agreed that it didn't state no flip flops in main restaurant and were trying to assist us. To make matters worse four other women were wearing flip flops in the dining room... NOT HAPPY... Club Barbados and BA you need to make it clear before allowing customers to travel..

In summary, one imagines Barbados as a place with amazing beaches.... Club Barbados failed our dream...

Dear Valued Guests,

Thank you very much for your comments about your recent stay at The Club Barbados. We appreciate the time you took to share your observations with us as we are always striving for 100% guest satisfaction.

As is comon practice around the world (including all-inclusives) guests are required to submit their credit card as a way for the resort to charge for incidentals, tours and excursions. In addition, we do have a policy that requires a deposit for the safe deposit box.

We do have a dress code which is stated on our webiste. Men our allowed to wear tailored shorts to dinner on Friday evenings. The rest of the week, and by popular demand, we have an elegantly casual dress code, which includes slacks and collared shirts for gentlemen, and slacks or dresses for ladies. Our guests, and visiting travel professionals, overwhelming report that they love the fact that we work hard to create a relaxed, yet slightly upscale atmosphere in the evening. This provides a lovely break from the less formal island-style restaurants and bars where you might find visitors wearing jean shorts, flip-flps and t-shirts to dinner. There is definitely a time and place for that, and we also love to let our hair down and have a great time. But we also try to provide a bit of elegance and island charm in the evenings, which again, our guests greatly enjoy.

We are certainly disappointed when guests are not happy and address all concerns in a very timely fashion.

As you can see from our TripAdvisor reviews, the vast majority of our guests provide very positive comments, and we work very hard to ensure that all our guests enjoy a wonderful Caribbean holiday.

My wife and originally spent a fantastic two weeks at this hotel (then called the Almond Beach Club and Spa) in July 2007. We went back in 2008 and again in 2009 but on this last time lots of things were going wrong. Having read good reviews since the hotel was taken over we decided to go back.
As ever the staff were extremely friendly and helpful and the food superb. A lot of the rooms had been refurbished including the ground floor suite that we were given. All the parasols were new and small touches like the new coffee machine and screens in the restaurant to keep the birds out were apparent.
The entertainment, however, was quite poor. There were none of the floor shows anymore and a band on only three nights a week.
My personal complaint though was that the drinks were rationed. My wife and I only drink the local draught beer and it was very annoying to be told that the main bar had run out on several occasions
After being told on a third time that the Piano bar had no draught beer we gave up and did go in again.
The hotel is still well worth a visit but do bear in mind what I have said

I returned this morning from 8 days at the resort. I guess I would break it down into 3 section...I think the previous reviews have generally been very accurate.

THE GOOD
The management support is great, very switched on, speak to you remembering your name when you have questions. The food is pretty good on the whole but limited in variety and always seemed to be lukewarm when a la carte.
Dinner on the beach at the Sunset restaurant is great, relaxing and charming with a lovely view. The staff generally are lovely possibly with the exception of some of the reception staff.
The grounds are well kept and enjoyable; colourful and very clean. The pool is clean and inviting.
The beaches to either side of the hotel are lovely and the snorkelling was great in front of the hotel. Do take water shoes though as there are a lot of sea urchins.
The spa is fab, great Swedish massage and pedicure and very reasonable.
The best bit is no children under 16!

THE BAD
The first room we were allocated was shocking, small, dark, old, mouldy and with a broken shutter in the bathroom allowing a great deal of traffic noise in. The one we were moved to was adequate but dated and the bathroom was very basic and the shower without hot water on occasions. At times it feels like you need to escalate any requests to get things actioned but once you do, it gets sorted.
The entertainment is pretty dull but adequate, would be nice if it was more Caribbean in nature.

THE UGLY
The jet skiers touting their boats!!! They are down right dangerous and show little regard for the people swimming and snorkelling. Please sort this out before there is a tragedy. I know all beaches are public but a roped off swimming area is a MUST such as the one at Sandy Lane.
The sewage outlet just next to the water-sport office (even they advise not to swim near it)

Having said all that I was there with my son and we had 8 fabulous days. The island of Barbados and it's people is pure magic. We explored the island, top to bottom and east to west. It is just stunning and The Club was a good base, I would return but with a B&B option as it us such a waste not to go out exploring. Hire a car, grab a map and go! It is safe, fun and stunning.
We went on a catamaran day to the turtles with Seacluded, they were amazing and it was a special day indeed. Lunch at The Fish Pot is a must too.
A bit of TLC at The Club would make a huge difference. I would give the hotel a 3* rating but Barbados a 5*

Room Tip: Upgrade to a 1 bedroom suite

My husband and I spent the first two weeks of June at this hotel which had been recommended by friends, we had a ground floor garden view room which we had requested which hadn't been modernised as some of the rooms have but was perfectly adequate and very clean. We did have a few problems while we were there but they were dealt with effectively and efficiently by the staff and one of the assistant managers who liked to be called "Mr Everything".

Despite the above incidents we had a lovely time at the Club mainly due to the good quality of the food and the excellent staff who were always very helpful and continually singing laughing and dancing and who are definitely the hotel's greatest asset, a special mention here for Cathy-Ann and Patricia in the restaurant who always managed to find my husband a table under a fan and Odwin, Keisha, Paulette and many others who waited on us so well.

The property is an adult only one which makes it very relaxing it is a compact hotel with lovely gardens which are kept beautifully and three swimming pools the biggest negative we felt was the distinct lack of umbrellas around the pool, if you did want one and you were up after 6-6.30 then you were out of luck this problem could easily be rectified with very little expense if the hotel invested in a lot more of these umbrellas.

The food is very good and there is a buffet on a Monday and Saturday the rest of the week it is waiter service with a good choice, lunch and breakfast are buffet with plenty of choice and if you needed anything special I'm sure if you asked you could get it. There is a Caribbean style restaurant upstairs called Enids which is also very good. The cocktails are very good and you could get Gordons gin as part of the all inclusive drinks but you had to ask for it.

The nearest town is Holetown which is a pleasant 10 minute walk and you can get the bus almost anywhere for 2 barbadian dollars and there is a bus stop outside the hotel. There is also a centre with a few shops opposite the hotel. We did a trip to the Caves, St Nicholas Abbey rum plantation and Bathsheba on the east coast and felt it was very interesting and only took half a day so you were back for lunch, Bathsheba was particularly lovely with it's rough Atlantic coast.

Would I recommend this hotel yes just make sure you know what to expect this is the Caribbean so expect just that, will I return most definitely.

Room Tip: If you book a sea view room don't automatically expect a balcony as some of the rooms don't...

Just returned from 2 weeks at this hotel, our 1st visit to Barbados. Hotel was great, a beautiful location on the west coast, needs a little updating in places but our room looked recently painted, comfortable bed, good shower and hot water always plentiful. The pool area was lovely, kept beautifully clean all day by the pool staff, plenty of loungers, pools not very big but never more than 4 people in them. The beach area was nice, loads of trees for shade if you needed it. There were about 10 steps down to the sea which was fine for us but could be a problem for a less mobile guest. The food was excellent both in the buffet restaurant and in Enid's. All the staff are absolutely amazing people, so friendly and helpful, Rhea in the sunset restaurant always looked out for us, a lovely girl!! We went on an island tour with Amir the hotel's guide, very enjoyable morning. Overall a fab holiday, brilliant value for money, will definitely return.

Room Tip: We had a room with balcony overlooking the pool, nice and central but still quiet.
