“4th time and I think we like it”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 November 2013

This hotel was our No1 choice to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. When I asked my wife where she would like to go to celebrate our occasion there was no hesitation, it had to be the Bougainvillea. Like I said earlier, this is our 4th visit and we can honestly say we have no complaints what so ever about this resort.
To mark our 40th I arranged a meal on the beach, this was a great meal and carried out by the staff with enthusiasm and expertise. One we shall certainly remember and a must for anyone with a similar celebration.
The hotel bedrooms are spotlessly clean and so are the public areas. The staff are trained to a very high standard and it certainly shows. Although we used the restaurant several times we also visited the Gap and Oistins for meals. These are located close by and easy accessible by taxi.
Shall we be going again, we most certainly will.

Room Tip: Deluxe One Bedroom Suites are the best we have had. All rooms are good but it depends on your budget...

Came to Bougainvillea for the first time 2 years ago and was very impressed! The hotel is extremely well located, nice beach, the rooms are simple but nice, the staff is overall welcoming. The only bad review is the restaurant... they new chef is not as good as the previous one and the food experience simply became boring. The waiters could also improve! They sometimes give you attitude. I am not sure I will come back a third time.

Stayed at this hotel for 1 week from 8 Nov-15 Nov 2013. We had an unbelievable time. Believe the reviews the staff are incredibly helpful and friendly from the front desk to the staff at the restaurant. Special thanks to Leena and Shomona for making our wedding day just perfect and unforgettable. Special thanks to Peter for those wonderful wedding photographs that captured the essence of the moment. My wife and i hoping to return for our anniversary and we are very much looking forward to seeing every one again.

WOW! What a great resort! Rooms are lovely and clean. Service is friendly and everything was convenient. Buses and taxis just a few minutes away. When we decided to rent a car, we picked what vehicle we wanted and it was brought to us. Very easy and stressfree! The food at the restaurant is very good, just a tad bit pricey...The tiki pool bar is awesome and you have everthing you need at the beach which is right there. All staff members at the resort are extrememly friendly and helpful. I am so thrilled we picked a great place to stay. I definitely recommend this resort and if I every come back to Barbados, this is where I'll stay!

Myself and my wife are in the hotel right now. We arrived the 7th of november for our honeymoon. First time in Barbados, first time to this part of the world generally. Been a Thailand fan and having an overall asian experiance I was surprised for the standard of service in and outside the hotel.
Everybody is smiling and is willing to help you from the hotel staff to the ordinary people on the road.
About the hotel... Front desk congratulations.
Spacious rooms always clean and tidy. We were upgraded from a studio to junior suite. 5315. I do recommend it as has a great view of the hotel's pool and the beach. Some others do prefer the rooms closer to the beach but this room sees the entire hotel.
The maid service is very, very good.
Pool always clean. Been in the tropics is such a hard work. Pool bar brilliant. The staff is amazing. Drinks too!
The restaurant. ... on the beach. Amazing location incredible flavours in almost all their dishes. Prices very reasonable compared with outside.
Beach very good. Clean with plenty of deck chairs and thebeach staff of the hotel is very keen to asist you from relocating your umbrella to order you a hobbie catamaran for an hour trip along the coastline.
The sea mind you is a bit rough. All the days we've been here. Good fun for adults but definatelly not for children. On the west side of the island is what you' ve seen about caribean beaches.
The only negative if you are a smoker is the fact that you cannot smoke anywhere inside the hotel premises incuding your balcony. Mind you the same is everwhere in Barbados. Indoors or outdoors. On the street or the beach only.

Just returned from a 4-night stay at Bougainvillea, and our first trip to Barbados. We traveled here for a wedding and didn't bother researching neighboring hotels as the wedding was being held right on the property. Check-in was not until 4pm, however the front desk kindly gave us 2 complimentary drink tickets to enjoy at the swim-up pool bar while we waited. Our deluxe studio room was extremely clean and well-appointed. The linens and towels smelled fresh and the room was a comfortable temperature despite the hot and humid air outside. The hotel has a well-appointed gym (although it is on the lower-level so there are no windows), a spa (which we did not visit), and a restaurant on-site. The restaurant was decent, although be ready for island-time service, though service is always with a smile. There are not really any other restaurants within walking distance so we chose to dine at the resort for most meals for the convenience factor. The beach was clean and beautiful, and there were plenty of lounge chairs for all. The best part of our stay was the wedding. It felt private though it was right on the resort, the food and service was excellent. I'd definitely recommend checking out this resort if you're looking for good value for your money, a nice beach, and friendly service.

Summary - After a recent family holiday, we all wanted to stay longer/come back !

We booked a 1 bed suite, which was spacious, well equipped, clean and in good order. The bed was very comfortable. The kitchen area looked dated, but was well decorated. For reasons that baffle me, the soap dispenser was placed high up the wall so my children could not wash their hands.

The staff were very friendly and we did feel well looked after the whole stay.

So why not 5 stars ?

We upgraded on arrival to an all inclusive package, by no means cheap, but meant we dined at the hotel a lot... and this was the let down....

1. The children's menu is a disgrace, all junk food with no veg in sight, I had to complain to get healthy food options for my children. I am sorry, but at premium prices, a hot dog and fries for a dinner entrée ? NO !

2. The meal service was not so much slow as glacial. At 2 lunches, a 2 course lunch took over 2 hours due to very slow service. The worst case was over a 35 minute wait for a scoop of ice cream for my children, after complaining we were told the ice cream is kept in another kitchen, rather than move it, every day we were told the excuse again.

3. On the web site, the hotel shows 2 restaurants, but 1 was closed which limited food and menu choice, after 9 days, we were bored by the weekday menu choices and enjoyed the theme nights.

4. Despite being all inclusive, nearly half of the meals carried an extra charge for all inclusive guests, that to my mind is not all inclusive. The item that grates most was that sparkling water was classed as a premium drink and charged extra, which after paying over $6000 for the meal package (9 days, 2 adults/2 children), hurt.

Are these items easy to fix, I think so, especially as the staff all seemed keen to do a good job, and treated us well. There is a difference between laid back meal times and very slow. If you have trips booked, you need to be on time.

On our last day, the restaurant staff took our lunch order at 11am so that we could get in at 12 and still make a 2pm taxi to the airport.

The hotel is easy to get to from the airport, is a short taxi ride to many places, and is in a very pleasant beach front setting. You are a taxi ride to most alternative places to eat, but taxi's are plentiful, and seem to come quick indeed.

My wife and I used the spa, was superb, shame they do not open at weekends !

On the last day, I was presented with a $600 bill for items we had not consumed or were covered by all inclusive, annoying that I had to complain to get fixed rather than the hotel present the correct bill, worth checking your bill if you stay as $480 of errors were removed from my bill.

I would love to visit the hotel again, but would avoid the restaurant/all inclusive until further reviews show they have fixed the slow service.

Room Tip: 1 Bed suite is a great size and comfortable for a family of 4, if you arrive late, bring your own es...

Thank you for your recent review of Bougainvillea Resort, it is important for us to hear from our guests about what we are doing right and what we could do better!

We appreciate that you gave our new All Inclusive package a try and like all new endeavors there are always ways to improve, so we will certainly take your feedback on board.

I am pleased to let you know that we have completely revamped our Kid's Menu to include a variety of healthy options and that Measures have been taken to streamline service at the restaurants and again we thank you for drawing attention to this matter.

With regard to the bottled water, you will find that with most All Inclusive packages - certainly with hotels in Barbados, there is a Charge for this and our policy is in line with the industry standard.

Wonderful to hear you enjoyed our spa! Waves Spa opens Monday - Saturdays and services on Sundays can be arranged on request and by appointment.

Thank you again for choosing to stay with us and for your and for your kind praise and constructive feedback, which we will share erg all of our staff.

We hope to welcome you back to Bougainvillea!
