“Just Perfect in Paradise”
Reviewed 13 July 2014

if a trip to the paradise island of Barbados is on your must do list, then you are advised to stay here at the Bougainvillea. It delivers on every single level.

Direct access to a section off beach that has the softest sand and beautiful blue and warm waters of the Atlantic sea. We have a junior suite, which is well appointed with an internal sitting area and a balcony overlooking the beach and pool areas. The bathroom is large and all of the facilities work properly and you are always provided with plenty of clean towels. This suite also comes with a small kitchen area with fridge, kettle, microwave, toaster, hot plate, well just about everything really, if you fancy rustling something up to eat yourself? Of course after a hard days lounging around on the beautiful beaches, you will need somewhere comfortable to sleep. No disappointment there, the bed is large and very comfortable with plenty of soft pillows.

Then of course there are the hotel staff, and it is hard to imagine coming across more helpful friendly people. I was unfortunate to fall ill while on holiday. The hotel made all the arrangements for me to see a local doctor, even phoning ahead so that they expected us on arrival, the duty manager then also called us back later in the day, to make sure that everything was ok. Even the lady who cleaned our room took a personal interest in my well being!

There are plenty of sockets for electrical gadgets and the free wifi in our room certainly performed well. You do have to re-register each day to maintain your connection, but this is not a problem and it allows the hotel to advise you on what is available.

Room Tip: I expect all rooms are of an equally high stadard

This was our second time staying at Bougainvillea, and we are headed back again next month for 2 weeks because we loved it THAT much. We originally stayed in August of 2011 and were engaged there, then were married in Barbados in August of 2012, and have been back every year since. This is a hotel who's staff remember your name and face. They are some of the warmest, most generous and kind people, and the resort is such a nice, clean breath of fresh air. Melissa was there to greet us when we arrived, and was so sweet and kind to offer us drink coupons for our first and favorite rum punch on the island! She also even called us in our room to make sure everything was okay once we were all set. All the ladies in the front are amazing and we thank you so much for all you do!!

Roxanne and Sonia were our bartenders of choice when we came to the pool bar. To be frank, Roxanne, Sonia and Melissa were our people of choice the whole time we we stayed! If we had any questions or just needed a smile, one of those superb ladies were always nearby to do just that! Most of the time my husband and I didn't know what we wanted to drink if it wasn't rum punch, and "Foxy Roxy" would always come through with a delicious concoction!! In addition to making amazing drinks, Roxanne and her staff would run back and forth to the kitchen for people's food orders that came in at the bar. They would also make sure it was made just how you ordered it or they would send it back - making their guests happy is clearly an apparent priority from the reception staff all the way through to the grounds keepers, who were always so nice and kind every time we saw them! All these details from a guest who spent most of her time on the beach, yet I noticed everything. Everyone who left that pool bar was either drunk and happy, full and happy, or tan and happy. May I also add the gentlemen who tended the back bar - absolutely fantastic, and told us so much about BIM we wouldn't have otherwise known! They also made amazing drinks and were so nice to us when they'd see us throughout the day. Can't wait to see you all again soon!

The grounds are impeccable. You would never know there was seaweed in the caribbean unless you happened to be up before the sun and made it to the beach before hotel staff raked - it never happened for me - the beach was always immaculate first thing in the morning.

I've noticed a lot of complaints about food at the resort and I have come to a conclusion about that - Most people who visit BIM don't have the same diet that the island offers. To think that fresh seafood, fish cakes, delectable chicken caesar wraps, and dinner buffets wouldn't be appetizing sounds irrational. But I choose not to eat at the resort so that the things I do enjoy I don't tire of. In addition, each suite has a full kitchen with all cooking and eating appliances, so you can very easily bring the staples from home with you and shop for whatever suits your fancy at their local markets. Lots of options!

The beach is amazing. What people sometimes I think don't realize, is there are TWO beaches for Bougainvillea guests. One toward the end of the resort where more of the restaurants are, and another beach that is more crowded outside the pool bar. The pool bar beach is pretty rough, strong waves, and lots of people. The other beach is calm, very quiet, and you almost can have the whole beach to yourself. Depends on what you like.

From the first time we came to BIM, Bougainvillea introduced us to the only driver we use from the hotel now - his name is Trevor. He is honest, he knows so much about the island, and he has become our friend over the years. We love him! If you ever need a driver from Bougainvillea - ask for Trevor!

This is an excellent resort for families, couples, singles, or even a group of friends who are traveling together. Unlike other, more "upscale" resorts on the island, Bougainvillea is welcoming, inviting and suits just about any kind of traveler, and are far from the more sterile environments offered at other resorts. I think the other reason why we always go back to the Bougainvillea is because it's family owned and operated. Morgan, who oversees the accounting of the resort and pretty much day-to-day operations, is one of the nicest hoteliers I have ever met. He greeted us with a strong warm handshake and gave us his personal contact details should we ever need anything. Working in the entertainment industry for so many years, there is a standard that we look for everywhere we go, and Morgan, Melissa, Roxanne, Sonia and all the other amazing staff members whose names we weren't privileged to receive, exceeded that standard by miles. Let me be clear though - these people who make this resort what it is are more like family than anything else. They are sweet, they want to help, and to treat them any other way than that would just be unkind.

We are so excited to be coming back and spending our wedding anniversary and 2 whole weeks at our special place, the Bougainvillea Beach Resort!! Looking forward to seeing Morgan, Melissa, Roxanne, Sonia and all of our amazing friends very soon!!

Room Tip: All the rooms here have an ocean view - there are no bad rooms!

This was our first experience of Barbados. The hotel staff were genuinely friendly and always happy to help.
We were surprised by how close we were to the beach! (The breakfast area is built just on the sand, and you look out to sea when eating, it's gorgeous) Amazing atmosphere around the hotel because of the friendly, warm and welcoming staff. Clean, spacious, comfortable rooms, amazing cocktails, Our favourite - Piña Colada, they just are not the same anywhere else.
If you like Rum, food and dancing must go to the Friday night Fish Fry which happens in Oysteins. It's just 5 mins drive away by taxi.
Getting about the island is easy and the hotel arranged a higher car for 3 days which was enough for us to get around and see many wonderful places. We also took a Catamaran out to feed & swim with turtles. An experience to remember forever.
Just wanted to add, we took a taxi from the airport to this hotel, absolutely worth doing! It's half the price that BA would've charged and there are many taxis at the airport with a national price rate so you know exactly how much you'll pay.

I have visited this hotel 4 times now and would come back every year if I could afford to! It's a 15-20 minute drive from the airport, located in the South of the island right on the Atlantic coast. The sea may be choppy and a bit rough at times but the beaches are stunning and the calmer West coast is again, only around 20 minutes away by car. St Lawrence Gap is walking distance and is where the main strip of restaurants are. Bridgetown is a 15-20 minute drive also.
This hotel is stunning - it's perfectly placed with its own private beach and the lobby is horseshoe shaped around the pools and waterfalls in the gardens. You walk up the steps and look down onto the most beautiful beach imaginable. The rooms are clean, well appointed and spacious - the only thing I would say is that perhaps the bathrooms could do with a little updating but when you're in paradise how much time do you need to spend in there?! The staff cannot do enough to help you, going out of their way to make you feel welcome - from the 'green team' maintaining the gardens to the watersports staff arranging trips or rides for you - and although the service in the restaurants can sometimes be a little slow - you're on Barbados time and there's no rush for anything. When we were leaving for the aiport we asked if our food could be prepared a little more quickly and that was no problem, just as nothing is at this hotel. We'll definitely be back when we've saved up!

We just returned from vacation in Barbados. The resort was a relaxing and a very clean place to stay. We had a great view of the beach from our balcony room 5210. Grounds are full of flowers and the ocean is pristine. We toured the island with Sanjay Kini and had a wonderful informative tour. If you want to contact him and set up a time his number is 246-262-1296. He will also pick you up at the airport if he has your information. We ate at Lanterns which was good and then ate at different restaurants on the island. There is a convenience store about 5 minutes you can walk to from Bougainvilleas to pick up coffee, milk, basic essentials. We took a cab to the supermarket and picked up other items to cook in the room for breakfast. We had one day of rain otherwise the temperature was in the 80's with a wonderful sea breeze. We will return for another great vacation!

My wife and I stayed at Bougainvillea for a week in February 2014. It was basically perfect. Our room was on the first floor with an amazing view of the beach and a great covered patio. The room was spacious, as was the bathroom, and it had an amazing shower. There was a full-sized refrigerator and a small kitchen area had we wanted to cook something simple.

The beach area is very nice and private, and there are plenty of lounging chairs and umbrellas, and a staff member will put your umbrella in the sand for you.

It's also very easy to book any activity you want at the front desk, and they can help you with pretty much any question you have about what to do and where to go on the island. We rented a car and booked a sailing excursion and other activities through Bougainvillea, and it was very easy.

There's a pool and a pool bar and a bunch of nice places to sit and relax. The place just has a very nice and laid back feel, perfect for fully relaxing on vacation. We took advantage of the breakfast buffet every morning, and the food was excellent.

The location is perfect too, within walking distance to a bunch of restaurants and to Oistins, where you HAVE to go for the Friday night fish fry.

But most of all, the staff is AMAZING. Extremely friendly and helpful and all with a good sense of humor. They are just good people, and they are not just pretending to be nice. In particular we have to praise Andre and Roxanne. We would go back just to hang out with them again.

In short, the perfect place to stay in Barbados. You'll have everything you need without any pretentiousness at all. We will almost definitely go back one day soon.
