First - a little background. We're 55 year old Americans and married 28 years. Usually in bed by 11 pm. Not there for the nightlife.

The Bougainvillea was terrific. The grounds are beautiful. Big clean rooms with kitchenettes and a wonderful staff. Supermarkets are a long walk/short taxi ride away. Minor drawbacks were the water pressure for the showers and a hard bed but that's just us being used to things back home. The beach is fantastic and the big surf was a lot of fun. The staff is the best! Wireless internet was essential to email family and friends back home and also to research island attractions.

The onsite Italian restaraunt was pretty good but make sure to go over to the St Lawrence Gap for dinner. We enjoyed the Cafe del Sol (best BBQ Chicken) but stay away from GiGi's (terrible). One of our best nights out was at the Bajan Roots and Rhythms Show!

The Bajans are friendly and always ready to help with directions, which is good because it's easy to get lost. Rent a car and drive up through the middle of the island to the east coast to Barclay(?) Park, the Soup Bowl then down to Crane Beach. We had lunch at the Round House overlooking the surf at Bathsheba, it was fantastic. Welch's Gulley and Harrison's cave were also good attractions. Fill up the gas tank beforehand because stations are few and far between once you get over to the east. We also drove the west side, the so called "Platinum Coast" but all you can see is the entrance gates to the expensive resorts. They all have big walls and/or hedgerows and there's really nothing to see from the road.

Good beaches away from the resort included the Boat Yard in Bridgetown. The kids love the rope swing off the dock and the trampoline rafts. The water is calm and they provide chairs and umbrellas for $35 BBD but you get $30 BBD credit at the restaraunt - Good deal all around! Another good place was Folkstone beach on the west coast. It's a public park (not all dressed up for tourists) with a marine reserve, good for snorkeling but the sandy part of the beach is pretty limited - not enough room for sunbathing.

All Barbados beaches are public with small access roads and limited parking, however, there are no facilities. If you're the kind that just needs a towel and sunscreen you can go anywhere you want.

Anyway - we had a great time on island. Weather was good - some clouds and spot showers but mostly sunny. The Bougainvillea was terrific. You'd better start saving your coins now because everything on Barbados is $$$$.

Would never stay here again. The pictures on the Internet do not reflect how old this hotel is. Maxwell Beach is Nice to walk on. Stay at the Almond Casurina or Turtle Beach Resort, both still on Maxwell Beach, I liked them both much better than is Old Dirty Place.
The Gym was ok. There was a good 5 min walk to the main road from the hotel to get to the local bus.
The restaurants on the Island are worth exploring, all of them I tried were great.
A nice island to explore, just choose a different hotel. I rely on Trip Advisor for hotel selection on a regular basis, but I wish I had Not Booked this place.

Hello,
My husband and I just returned from Bougainvillea/Sand Acres resort at Easter. This place, the grounds, the reception staff, the bell boys, the cleaning staff, the beach was everything I expected based on all the reviews. We had an ocean front studio room in the Sand Acres part of this resort. We could hear the waves while enjoying our morning coffee on the balcony or an evening drink after dinner.
We had Eddie (taxi driver at hotel) pick us up at airport when we arrived so we could get to know him as we used him the whole week - even gave us an amazing island day tour with sites you would not see on a regular tour bus, we went to the awesome Orchid Farm, The Caves (amazing) and Signal Hill with lunch in Bathesba on the east coast and eating at a waterfront cafe on a cliff - we ended our week with him bringing us back to the airport. Very nice man and an excellent driver! I highly recommend him!
We went to Bert's Bar our first night and met some wonderful people, watched the Senators play their final game and met Bert who introduced himself to us which was very nice. The flying fish we had was great! We went to Champers one night with a beautiful scenic table out on the deck overlooking the ocean - the food was amazing as was the service. And of course we did Oisten's Friday night fish fry reserving to take a shuttle from the resort and back. The resort also has a free shuttle into Bridgetown which we did one morning,

The rooms were very very clean, large living area with TV and CD player, kitchen all equipped. We even BBQed one night - just reserve a time at the desk. The beach sand was soft to walk on. We swam in the turquoise, green/blue ocean and had no problem with walking on coral. The pools were kept very clean. Some days were rough but it was okay. We walked to St, Lawrence Gap on beach - you have to take a right turn to get there from the beach just at Turtle Beach resort.

We will definitely be going back again!!.

\Bougainvillea Beach Resort is a very lovely place to spend your holiday in Barbados. It is a very clean, modern resort and the one bedroom suite was very spacious. All the staff were friendly and very helpful. The resort is in a good location, 5 min taxi to St Lawerence Gap and 2 mins to Fish Market. There is a little shop two mins walk down the road and a larger supermarket 2 mins in a taxi. There are two resturants on site, which are both very nice. The beach was very clean and there were lots of watersports.
We hired a car for two days and explored the island(we felt perfectly safe!). The turtle trip was the best trip we have been on, my two children (11 and 8) really enjoyed it.
Thanks all at Bougainvillea for a wonderful holiday.

Bougainvillea Beach Resort is wonderful! From the speedy check-in to the friendly bellmen. In fact all the staff are very polite- they do not walk past you without a hello. It's the first time that I've been to a hotel where the bellman walked me through everything in the room- the lights, the ACs, even how the stove works! If you're lucky enough to get one of the suites with a private plunge pool just off your patio, that's an added bonus.

There's so much to do - watersports at the beach, swimming in the pools, many games in the well-equipped Games Room and tennis The only thing the resort doesn't have is a golf course, but even that is just a few minutes away.

The food at the two restaurants is fabuous or if you feel like cooking (can't imagine why!) there's a full kitchen in the suites.

I highly recommend Bougainvillea to anyone coming to Barbados - it's big enough to have all the amenities you need and small enough to still feel intimate.

I stayed at this hotel over the Easter period. I have had a most wonderful experience
at this property. Front desk staff were extremely and the room was clean and very comfortable. All service staff, cleaners and also pool bartenders made our stay
a very enjoyable one.

Kudos to Operations Manager, Mrs. Sharon Hugh White for her efficiency.

There are so many good reviews already written about this hotel and all well deserved. Here are a few highlights worth another mention.

Ted's Tours - Take this trip early on in your break. It gives a great overview of the island of where and what to do. All you have to do is put up with Ted's corny jokes all day! But they just made the day all the more enjoyable for us. The lunch that is included in this trip is also excellent.

Cool Runnings - Excellent tip. We took the 5hr morning one and the time flew by, so this may be a better option the the shorter sunset trip.

Bert's Bar in Worthing - This is about three quarters of an hour to walk from Bougainvillea. We returned one evening, using one of the No. 11 suicide waggons that will take you between Bridgetown and Oistens for BD1.50 per person per trip. Well worth the adrenalin trip!!! The pizza at Bert's is excellent. Watch out for the rum punch though, it's way stronger they any other we sampled on the island.

The supermarket in Oistens offers a shuttle bus back to the hotel, but I'm not sure if they have a minimum spend before you qualify for this. It's about a 10-15 minute walk, but feels a little further with shopping bags!

The Check-in Chill-out option the Virgin offer is excellent. Our cases were collected at 9:30am where we were given our boarding passes. We then we spent the rest of the morning around the pool/beach. Then made use of the hotel guest lounge(showers, shampoo, shower gel and clean towels all provided). We were collect at 2:30pm and taken to the airport 20mins away. We were then able to walk straight through to the airport shops and then on to the plane for the 4:45pm flight. No hassle!!!!

Enjoy!
