“Perfect for us!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 January 2010

We stayed for 4 nights in 3rd floor deluxe suite, 2 adults and 1 teenager and had 2 double beds. The hotel is the cleanest place I have ever stayed at. The kitchen had everything we needed. We borrowed boogie boards everyday and enjoyed the beach acrross the street. We rented chairs and umbrella at the beach for $15.00 US when needed. They also supply beach towels at the hotel. There is a busy road in front of hotel and cars stop to let you across the road. Only downfall is the noise of the road which you get use to after a while but is a pain in the you know what. The balcony is great and private due to the angle and enjoyed sitting out for coffee and drinks daily. You could see the oceon from our room but there is some tree blockage. If 4th floor available and you do not mind stairs would book that for better view. We brought peanut butter and cereral with us and walked 10minutes to grocery store for other breakfast stuff. We ate out for lunch and dinner and found many restaruants near by. Just Grillin our fav and also Chefette was good food low price, we also ate at Bert's next door. If you are looking for high value close to beach with kitchen and balcony and an extremely clean place without paying an extra $100.00 per night to be right on the beach this is the place to be. I am a light sleeper and was concerned about the road noise and brought ear plugs but never used them as I think the mix of out all day and the rum and the air conditioner I slept well. The air conditioner is very good and quiet.

We could tell from the moment we arrived that this is a happy hotel. We were received as if we were family members of the staff, and it only got better from there. The hotel is small so you get to know other guests and staff if you want to (which we did). And the whole atmosphere is that of intelligent care. (Which is a rather rare combination!) Audrey and the others fixed us up with excellent taxi drivers, tours guides and ideas for what to do and how to do it in a fun and economical way. (Tip: the bus system is fun, cheap and runs everywhere almost all the time. Try it out instead of taxis for once.)
The location: Well - it's 50 meters from Accra Beach which is one of the best on the island. We jogged on the newly built boardwalk every morning. Stores and restaurants are within walking distance. But yes - you do have to cross a road in order to get to the beach. And if you wouldn't have to do that you'd probably have to pay 2x the rates. We had no problems with it, but would not let the kids (age 7 and 10) cross the street on their own. All in all: It's very easy to understand why this hotel keeps on winning awards.

My wife and I headed to the Southern Surf on recommendations of some friends (who would be joining us a few days after we arrived). The Southern Surf lived up to, and beyond, everything we were told about it.
As our taxi pulled up, Lara and Audra came out of the office, not just to welcome us, but to introduce themselves and to make us feel welcome. Those two ladies had us more confident that we had made the right decision on staying at the Southern Surf.
LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION: As others have said, straight across the street (and the traffic will stop to let you cross if you just wait one minute) from the best beach in Barbados.
Rooms: A great size and fully equipped.
The support staff were very pleasant people and always had time to chat with you.
Hopefully we'll be back in July 2010.

My friend and I chose Southern Surf based on the recommendations on Tripadvisor. I think it was even better than I imagined it would be!

1. Location - right across the road from one of the best beaches in the island, this gives great swimming and tanning opportunities, as well as beautiful views. We would sit eating our breakfast on the patio in the morning looking out at the beautiful sea. There are many nice restaurants in the area (for budget eating or otherwise - the famous Champers is right across the road), and it's only a short walk to St Lawrence Gap which has a whole range of different places to eat. There are supermarkets near by too.

2. Facilities - the rooms are well-kept and clean with nice cooking facilities (large fridge-freezer, oven, 4-stove, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, kettle). We especially wanted a place where we could cook for ourselves and thesewas more than adequate to do that. The pool area is lovely for relaxing, and never too busy. We had it to ourselves almost all of the times we used it. We stayed in one of the overflow rooms on the ground floor, but the view was still amazing. The road outside is quite busy as other people have previously mentioned, but we didn't find that this affected our holiday enjoyment at all. In fact, I think it added to the island-feel!

3. Service - the staff are awesome and always ready to go the extra mile to help you out. They let us check in several hours early and check out several hours late simply to suit our travel schedule (we hadn't even asked!).

4. Value - Although Barbados is quite expensive compared to the rest of the Eastern Caribbean islands, Southern Surf itself is great value for money. As well as a great price on the room, we arrived to discover that they were doing a special deal and we got one night free! You get free wireless internet and free local calls too, which was great.

I would recommend Southern Surf to anybody. It's a great budget hotel which is well-kept with a very friendly staff in a perfect location.

I made my decision to stay at Southern Surf based on the reviews of trip advisor and each one was spot on. This is an absolutely fantastic place, across the road from the beach and within 5mins walk to St Lawrence Gap. The rooms were clean, spacious and with all the amenities you want from a room. The staff make this place though, Lara and Audrey go out of their ways to make you feel at home and they are two of the nicest people you are likely to meet. I recommend this place highly and i hope i'll be back at some stage in the future again.

We have just returned from a fantastic holiday & cruise in the Caribbean, which included 5 nights at Southern Surf.
We were celebrating a 50th Birthday & 25th Anniversary, & loved the gifts & note that were left for us - very thoughtfull & typical of how the management & staff treat their customers.
We flew in quite late on the Friday, & were welcomed by ( we think ) Sammy, the night porter, who does the 9.0 pm - 5.0 am shift !
We were missing our main luggage, after flying in with LIAT - who our taxi driver told us are know as L(uggage) I(n) A(nother) T(erminal) - be aware if you use this airline !!
Rachael on the front desk was brilliant in helping us chase LIAT to retrieve our luggage, as well as helping us with car hire, & recommendations on shops, restauarants, etc.
The room was a good size, lovely & clean, & had enough storage space for us - the kitchen area had a full size cooker, microwave, etc, & was well kitted out with utensils, etc, sea views from the balcony - thanks again to the lovely maids, who clean & tidy every day.
All rooms have permenant Wi-Fi, & access to free local calls via the telephones on each landing - ideal for calling LIAT !
The pool area was welcoming, with a couple of shaded seating areas, & several relaxers - we were the only ones in the pool everytime we used it, so a nice relaxing haven !
Yes, the road noise is there ( mainly on a Friday / Saturday night ), though if you just accept it's location, you have a tremendous resort, for a very reasonable rate.
Special thanks to Lara, who allowed us to us the facilities on our last afternoon, after returning from the cruise & before flying out, as it gave us the last chance of a few hours on the beach & poolside before heading back to the UK.
NB. After seeing a lot of other Caribbean beaches on the cruise, we have to vote Rockley
as the prefect beach - beutifull white fine sand, & the clearest sea, with gentle waves.
So, a lovely hotel, superb location, with extremely helpfull management & staff, & without doubt, if we ever go back to Barbados, we would stay here again.

My mate and I stayed at Southern Surf for a week whilst in Barbados to watch the cricket and had a fantastic time assisted in no small part by the friendliness and helpfulness of the Southern Surf staff.

The appartments are in a perfect location - 2 mins walk from your room to a superb beach and very close to good resturants and bars. St Lawrence Gap is about a 10 - 15 minute walk so it's far enough away not to be in your face but near enough to be in the middle of the action as soon as you want it.

The appartments are simple but clean and well cared for - All have a sea view but the higher up you are the better, rooms 10,11,12 are all on the top floor.

If your after a luxury hotel type of holiday - look elsewhere. If your after good quality self catering in a fantastic location - then this is for you.

What really makes it special are the staff - they really do seem to care about their guests and if you want any help/assistance they can't do enough for you.

I've stayed at Magic Isle and Coral Mist on this same stretch of coast in the past and both are nice, with the advantage of being on the beach side of the road (You cross the road to get to the beach from Southern Surf) - but they are not in the same league for customer service as Southern Surf.

Really, really a lovely place to stay
