Was in Bonaire for a week of scuba diving with a group of friends. We booked the Windsock for the week. When on a dive vacation, I have a fairly minimalistic approach to my hotel stay. Basically I need a place to sleep, a place to wash and dry my gear, and proximity to food. But I expect even diving hotels to be clean and well serviced.
I had several disappointments with Windsock. First, it is condo rental, not a hotel. Which means you get handed your key on day 1, and other then a major malfunction with the room, you are on your own for the week. No services. Not even a washer and dryer. Even though there is a 'manager' on duty, he asked us to contact him between 9 am and 10 am if we had any needs. Seriously. What diver is at their room between 9 am and 10 am? Nice enough guy though. Having said that, I could live with all of the above, if it were clean.
The rooms are not cleaned well. I confirmed this with other units too. Just walk across the floor in barefeet and then look at the bottoms of your feet. Or wipe off the counter as soon as you arrive. It was disgusting.
Second, there is no washer or dryer in the unit nor on the premises. So pack accordingly.
There were no trash bags provided (other then the 1 in the can), no toilet paper (other then the partial roll already there), and only 2 keys per room.
The bedrooms were strangely configured. First, there is one 'master' room with two large beds that allegedly can be separated into two beds if needed. There are two cabinets that act as closets, and a full bathroom. It has an in-room AC unit.
The second bedroom is a very small room with two smaller beds. It has an in-room AC unit as well. The room is so small that you really can't separate the beds and walk between them. We lovingly referred to it as 'the kids room'. It's bathroom is basically a partial bath. You have to go out into the main area to another room to use facilities.
The living room and kitchen are decent sized and reasonably well equipped. But very little dishwasher soap, etc. There is no AC in the main living areas, but fortunately the rooms have sliding doors to the patio that when opened, allow a nice cross breeze.
There is a small pool area. Nothing exciting and it appears the pool pump is broken. At least I never saw it running.
There is one dive site at the windsock. It is fine for a quick dive. There is a private beach area with chairs as well.
The windsock is located very close to the airport. Which means two things: 1) you FEEL the airplanes going overhead and 2) you are in the middle of nowhere. There is no restaurant or other services within 'walking' distance. So when you arrive, you need to head to the supermarket and get everything you including toilet paper, cleaners, paper towels, food, ant spray, trash bags etc.
There are several other better options on Bonaire. Many that have onsite restaurants and some basic amenities. On my next trip, I'll be staying at one of those.
