“Great B & B Accommodation”
Reviewed 15 September 2013

Unfortunately I could only stay in this fantastic little place for 1 night as it was booked out. certainly the nicest place I stayed whilst in Cuba, central, clean, new and great decor. A good breakfast all for a very reasonable price.

A lot of people advised to stay in a casa rather than a state run hotel and the main attraction being the friendliness of the people and the freedom to do what you like. The casa is in the centre of Habana Vieja, where you can walk over to a lot of other attractions - 10 minute walk to Capitol Building and Parque Central. The rooms are a good size, me and a friend shared. It gets so hot in Cuba but the room had an air con unit as well as a normal fan. Thank God. It's clean and very comfortable, your own bathroom which gets cleaned every day. There's water or beers available from the fridge and you can eat at the casa, we ate breakfast - prepared in front of you. Pancakes were good!

You can treat it as your own casa, sit in the huge living room space with the open windows and balcony looking onto the busy Obrapia street. I think you get a much better taste of Cuba staying somewhere like this than in a hotel. The street gets noisy in the morning with vendors and there seems to be a lot of roadworks going on but you have to remember that this is a normal residential street, life is just carrying on here and you're just observing.

We stayed here on the last day of our Cuban trip. It was in a great location for walking all over Vieja Habana. It's just a block or two off Obispo, the main pedestrian thoroughfare. The place is newly renovated and has interesting artwork and furnishings. Our bedroom was small but clean and the bathroom was a good size and very clean. The hosts were helpful and friendly. We needed to leave for the airport at 3 AM and Raydel/staff actually got up and helped get our luggage downstairs and waited until our taxi arrived.

We stayed here as part of our tour with Intrepid for 2 days. This is a really stylish place and has a very artistic feel with the vibrant colours and kooky artwork scattered around. I particularly loved the bamboo chairs in the dining area! The casa is conveniently located close to the old part of Havana. The room was spacious and clean. The bathroom was a decent size and again very clean. It looked as if part of the casa was being refurbished whilst we were staying there, but this didn't bother us at all. Breakfast was slightly more pricey than other casas we had stayed in (outside of Havana), but was still good. Both Raydel and the staff were always polite and courteous which was great. Other tour groups were staying there at the same time as us, so it always felt very safe. I would thoroughly recommend for solo travellers that want somewhere secure to stay at. The big plus for us was Raydel let us check out later than usual (super helpful from our point of view).

Room Tip: Ask for one of the newly refurbished rooms as they look really cool!

The owners are friendly, the location is good, the casa is in the middle of Vieja Habana, food is good.
The room is small and windows are on the inside corridor. The bed is too soft.
The overall impression is good.

CASA OBRAPIA was recommended by Pedro in bedincuba.com. I stayed for 3 nights in march, altogether. A very convenient location, very helpful hosts, a wonderful building with indoor terrace and balcony. Great breakfasts, Raydel excellent, I recommend 100%

My friend and I stayed here for 4 nights in February and were very pleased with our choice. We had booked with Raydel, the owner via the Internet and he always replied promptly to emails.
The accommodation was more like a hostel than a casa and we were able to view the interesting street life from a balcony.
The casa is in a fantastic location, right in the heart of the old city and within walking distance of most of the sights, restaurants etc. The street itself looked quite grotty but we walked about quite late every night and didn't ever feel unsafe. We felt totally secure in the casa itself and there always seemed to be someone there whenever we returned. Having a small torch would be handy as the streets are often not well lit and the surface can be uneven.
Our room was small but very clean and contained everything we needed - fan, air con, safe and en suite. The ceilings were high and an internal window let light and air in. The rooms are on the first floor and we had access to a dining room and lovely big sitting room with a balcony.
Breakfast was provided as an extra if we wanted it and included freshly squeezed juice, good coffee, eggs and nice bread.
Raydel spoke some English and was very helpful when we required assistance. He organised a car for us to go to Trinidad and looked after my Kindle which I accidentally left behind in. I was very impressed with his honesty and that of his staff. I would happily stay there again and would definitely recommend his casa to friends visiting.
