Going back was sad and joyous at times. The place has detiorated beyond imagination. Old Havana has some great restaurants. Don't settle for the famous ones. Walk around and do not take advice from street hustlers. They get a commission for taking you to a restaurant. Some are good. The fish and shelfish is extremely fresh and inexepensive. The main streets have been somewhat fixed up, but the minute you stray away to the other streets, it's like a bomb dropped and has not been repaired. Lots of people asking for $, soap, tooth paste, whatever you can give them. A great place to visit if you like vintage cars. Negotiate with your cab driver before you enter. Cab rides should be between $3 and $6 CUC. Do not pay more. Lots of street hustlers trying to sell you cigars, a 'girl', a 'man', a good restaurant, weed, whatever you want. The art market is a good place to buy paintings. Most of the art is lousy, but some booths will have very good original art. Located at El Mercado San Jose (by the docks). I brought 22 paintings back with me and love them all. Bring your own toilet paper, none to be had except at hotels. What is available will desintregate instantly.

Recently booked Taxi Vinales for transfers from Varadero Airport to Havana, Arrived on a flight to Varadero VERY late at night and then anotther transfer a few days later. Excellent experience with a very professional driver - Abel Haro.

Very professional and courteous driver. Book in advance for very reasonable prices in this beautiful country. Highly recommended.

Stroll around the streets of OLd Havana and discover the interesting streets, beautiful but worn out houses, impressive churches, small shops, lively bars, state owned restaurants or private paladars. Everyone will have their own experiences.

The people are lovely in general but if they are over friendly and want you to order them a drink, be careful and be sure that you are being fooled and will lose some money :(

We were nervous that the restoration of Old Havana would change it, but essentially the old city is still there. The music, the street performers and the joyful welcome of the Cubans. The clean-up is working well. There is a feeling of greater prosperity, hopefully that doesn't lead to capitalist greed.

Even though tourism is growing in Havana you still feel you have arrived to "another planet". Old buildings and old cars. Yes, it is all there. A lot of people trying to sell you something, but most of them take no for an answer. Walking the streets of old Havana is interesting and safe. A perfect place for a photo-safari.
