“Middle of the action in Havana”
Reviewed 9 March 2014

we stayed here while traveling in Cuba on a "people to people" visit sponsored by "Ocean Doctor". This bustling hotel definitely caters to foreign tourists. The location is perfect to explore Havana. It meets western standards and nothing....except water(more in a bit) ...is for want. after check in you need to goto the money change window and easily convert your Dollars or Euros to "CUCS"...the official tourist currency. the official exchange rate is 87 CUCs per 100$US. You now will have the means to explore Cuba as everything is about CUCs for Cuba....the need for hard currency. It s also the main reason that the best careers on the island are in the tourist industry as citizens are paid their "official"salaries in Cuban pesos....worth around 1/25 of a CUC. a tip in CUCs is everyones goal! That being said the 24 hr. bar was great, the breakfast buffet immense, the gift/cigar/rum shop stocked....all priced in reasonable...for tourists...prices. Cubans not allowed except to work. Purchase a WIFI card on the second floor(bring passport to prove you are a tourist) for slow communications...10 CUCs per 2 hour card. Our rooms(we bookended our trip here) were spacious and modern w/ mini bars, good mattresses, safe, lotsa towels, and clean. small door opened over balcony so as to hear..and smell the city. only reason not 5star...was on third morning....NO WATER....whole hotel. Welcome to Cuba LOL. problem solved by our afternoon return. also note we were in the "old" section of the hotel which is connected via an under street tunnel to the "modern" section...don't miss the great images adorning the tunnel. We were able to use the bathrooms and eat in the Modern building as they had water. We understand this water issue was an isolated occurrence. Don't miss the awesome rooftop pool and bar for great views of the city. Staff was great w/o exception. lively music in lobby evenings. always felt VERY safe in and out of the hotel. This hotel is a great choice when exploring Havana. 4 1/2 stars for us.

Room Tip: ask for an outside room if you want to hear the city as we did.

Dear Client,

We would like to thank you for staying at IBEROSTAR Parque Central. We appreciate your positive feedback and your rating. We apologize as well if in the everyday operational process we had to intervene one of our pipes, this was indeed an isolated situation and we always try to fix any problem as fast as possible in order to avoid disrupting our customers.

We spent 2 nights here on our recent honeymoon!

The hotel itself is beautiful but we received really bad customer service at the bars and restaurants on 4/5 occasions! Even just ordering a coffee at the bar the barman was down right rude! We were ignored at breakfast on both occasions! The first morning there were no plates or glasses available for the buffet! The buffet itself was terrible! Very very minimal selection of food and not very fresh!

We waited in the restaurant for an hour on a margarita pizza, we could see people come in after us and get food and pizza before us! When we addressed this with staff they apologised and said it was because they were so busy which was laughable as there were 4 staff on the floor and 5 out of 70-80 tables had a handful of people sitting at them!

Location is great and of I returned to cuba I would stay here again but the service is a real let down for a 5* hotel!

Dear Guest,

We would like to thank you for staying at IBEROSTAR Parque Central. We appreciate your positive feedback regarding our facilities. On the other hand, we would like to apologize for the situation you encountered in our restaurants. We will look into this information as we don't want our clients to have that impression. Please in your future visit ask for me at the front desk, I am sure we will be able to show you that we are really hospitable and will contribute in erasing the unfortunate image you took back home regarding our staff.

My wife and I spent 4 nights here to explore Havana - this was the ideal location because it's central and has good facilities in the hotel as well as being of a good standard. We're too old to risk staying in dodgy hotels.
The large room had good lighting and seating (not all hotels have this) as well as useful facilities such as an in-room safe and an iron and ironing board. The items in the minibar were rather expensive so we didn't use them. There was lots of storage space and plenty of hangers in the wardrobe. The bathroom was very well equipped, clean on arrival and well cleaned each day. Overall the maid service was excellent and well worth the small tip we left each day.
The breakfast buffet was very good with a wide range of foods from which to choose.
We were disappointed that although a coffee machine was in the room, you needed to spend CUC4.50 to buy a coffee set. This creates the wrong impression In an expensive, upmarket hotel such as this. Seriously jet-lagged travellers like us really enjoy a cup of coffee when they wake at 4am!!
On our arrival we were very tired (20+ hours travelling does that) and just wanted something simple to eat. We went to the pool bar on the 8th floor where we had 2 cocktails, a large, very tasty pizza and 3 beers for £19. That really "hit the spot." We also went here for lunch one day and enjoyed a delicious baguette stuffed with serrano ham and tomato.
We also ate in the Mediterano restaurant which was excellent - I've posted a separate review on it.
Overall a thoroughly enjoyable stay in a top quality hotel - pity about having to buy the coffee set.

Room Tip: Try to get a high floor.

This hotel was just wonderful, very clean a beautiful room, overlooking a building which we could see bullet holes in! The bar area was amazing, staff friendly. You can walk into old Havana at night to eat and we felt safe. I would recommend this hotel

i am a tour leader from israel and i've taken many groups all over south and central america, as well as to cuba. on february 2014 i was staying in the hotel with a group of 34 travelers, whe had special needs regarding food.
i must say that never before had i got such a treatment. everybody in the hotel did everything they can to satisfy my group, and it felt great!
but the number one for me was Israel, the spanish chef of the hotel, who gave us an outstanding service and left us amazed and thrilled with his effort and kindness.
i will sure bring more groups to this wonderful hotel!

My husband and I just returned from a 5 night stay at the Parque Central and overall we were happy with the hotel. It is very secure with doormen and security at every entrance and floor which is nice because Havana can be a bit sketchy, especially at night. You have to get used to saying "No, gracias!" to all the people trying to hustle you the moment you leave the hotel. The hustling is truly never ending and wears on you.

The first room we were given was not acceptable - the air conditioning didn't work, the bathroom lights were missing, the sinks did not drain at all and the carpet was seriously stained and dirty. We complained the next morning and were immediately transferred to a room in much better condition. I am pretty sure they try to put you in the bad rooms first to see if you will complain or just take it! I believe the hotel should replace all the carpets in the rooms and hallways with tile as the humidity has caused the glue to lift everywhere and looks just terrible, plus it is sooo stained and dirty. We stayed in the modern section but I think if I had to do it over I would ask for the older colonial section as its closer to the better pool, the better breakfast and the lobby is fantastic. Beware if you do not like second hand smoke though... the second you walk into the hotel you are quite overwhelmed by the smell of it. They need to invest in some better air purifiers.

Maid service was efficient and thorough, and the bar service was fantastic in every area of the hotel. I especially appreciated the guys working at the pool bar in the colonial section (much nicer pool than the modern section in my opinion as there is beautiful mature vegetation all over). Most of the food was great as well and drinks were strong and made very nicely although food and drinks are much pricier than if you go out & about in Havana. We bought WIFI cards at the business center which worked perfectly the entire time of our stay.

We preferred walking over to the colonial section to have the breakfast buffet. The food was good by buffet standards and lots to choose from. The only issue was the toaster broke down during the last morning of our stay and although several employees walked over to observe the malfunction, nothing was done to fix it.

I would definitely recommend this hotel due to its location (walking distance to a lot of restaurants, shops and attractions such as Rum Museum, Obispo Street & Mercades Street). It is pricey but you really do need to shell out the bigger bucks in Cuba to have anything close to what you are expecting for 5 stars. I would probably rate this hotel 5 stars for service but 3 stars in terms of appearance and luxury. Do not bother visiting Cuba if you are looking for a luxury vacation. Go there to have an interesting and humbling experience. Also beware of the smog!

I don't have a TripAdvisor account and don't write reviews but the experience was so bad, i felt i had to.

If you want pretentious crap this place is for you. We came to Havana initially and stayed at the Saratoga hotel for 4 nights, the service was fantastic, helpful, food was great and staff were friendly, what you'd expect from a 5* hotel. We then went on to Trinidad and were coming back to Havana for one night at the end of our holiday. We had tried to book the Saratoga but they were full so we had booked Iberostar. The only room they had left was a suite for £250 per night, there was four of us so we had booked 2 room which was not ideal but was only for one night so we went for it.

Having spent 5 days in Trinidad with no internet we were all looking for to getting into the hotel to check our emails and get back to civilization. On arrival we were told that internet is 8 Pesos for an hour... what???? we are paying £250 per night per room and we don't get free internet. At the Saratoga we paid less than half and had free internet the whole stay. This was incredibly disappointing and we asked to speak to a manager who basically said that it wasn't her problem as the internet was provided by an external company. From the minute you walk into this hotel you feel like they are trying to bleed you dry in whatever way possible, money grabbing, unhelpful with a don't care attitude.

We then went through to what they call there steak restaurant.. The service was shocking, the waiter had no idea what he was doing. This is the tackiest hotel I have ever stayed in.. get this, they have a chart on the menu of how to order your steak 1. rare - pink cold centre firstly the centre of your steak should never be cold whether its rare or not, any decent restaurant would know this. The very fact that they have to talk people through how to order your steak is quite frankly laughable. This hotel screams pretensions but has absolutely no class what so ever.

We were told that guests get a complimentary glass of champagne on arrival. We headed over and asked for our champagne. They came back and said no its sparkling wine.. which was not what they said on reception but was fine.. when they poured it i wish i had taken a picture to post on here, it was no more than an inch in a glass. When we questioned in the waiter laughed said it was a welcome cocktail and what did we expect from a free drink.

The whole experience from the minute we came was irritating and I literally couldn't wait to leave. If i could give anyone with any class advise who is coming to Havana please stay at the Saratoga you will not regret it!!!!

Dear Client,
On behalf of our hotel staff, I would like to apologize for the bad impression you took back home about our hotel. After reading your review, we really feel very disappointed for the fact that we were not able to offer you the relation quality/value. We would have liked to know the incident in the approach of our staff, in order to clarify with you this perception, as we truly think the incident at the bar was only a misunderstanding.
We completely understand your point of view regarding our internet service and the fact that in another hotel you had it complimentary. Unfortunately for the hotel, the internet service is rendered by a third party. For this reason we do not only depend in them with the price, but as well for the speed and connectivity. We never want our clients to feel we do not care about a certain problem they have at our property, as the mission in a service oriented company is always the satisfaction of our customers.
Our steak restaurant is unique in Havana City, we serve selected imported meat cuts and we have never had a complaint regarding it. We feel very sorry for the fact that you did not approach the management with any of the unfortunate incidents you encountered as I am well sure that we would have done anything within our hands in order to change the perception you took regarding our hotel.
We can assure you that we will personally look into the information you point out in your review as this is not the image we want our reviewers to have regarding our property.
