On a day tour of the city, we noticed this small bar tucked away in the corner of Plaza Viejo. Our guide told us that it was one of his favorites. We came back in the early evening to do a little exploring on our own. We opted to sit on the very small balcony upstairs rather than the main dining room on the first floor. Be warned, there is NO elevator and lots of steep stairs. We ordered wine. While our drinks were being prepared, we enjoyed our perch. We watched the plaza lights just beginning to come on. Locals were strolling arm in arm, music was playing, the smell of coffee and food filled the air, and a refreshing breeze came up after a very hot day.
Service was quick and we loved watching the sun go down over the Plaza. Our son loves coffee. On the way out, we stopped to ask if they had any for sale. Just one bag of whole beans. We bought that with our last few CUC's. Grinding the fragrant beans every morning is about as close to heaven as one can get.
