On a day tour of the city, we noticed this small bar tucked away in the corner of Plaza Viejo. Our guide told us that it was one of his favorites. We came back in the early evening to do a little exploring on our own. We opted to sit on the very small balcony upstairs rather than the main dining room on the first floor. Be warned, there is NO elevator and lots of steep stairs. We ordered wine. While our drinks were being prepared, we enjoyed our perch. We watched the plaza lights just beginning to come on. Locals were strolling arm in arm, music was playing, the smell of coffee and food filled the air, and a refreshing breeze came up after a very hot day.
Service was quick and we loved watching the sun go down over the Plaza. Our son loves coffee. On the way out, we stopped to ask if they had any for sale. Just one bag of whole beans. We bought that with our last few CUC's. Grinding the fragrant beans every morning is about as close to heaven as one can get.

The waiters look you in the eye and just continue loitering against the wall or walk past you. Unless you walk inside and ask to be served your children could grow up while you wait at this place. Interesting coffees and cakes, but very expensive.

Located in the corner of Plaza Vieja, I bought whole coffee beans (1 kilo/20 CUC), the guys there are so nice... I got there at 9p just as they were closing doors he still let me in for their wonderful beans! Wish I had bought more! Love the unique statue by the fountain! Te Amo Habana❤️

We stopped here for a break from our tour. Delicious cafe Cubano and their desserts looked amazing. Service was quick, so we could get back to our tour.

As a coffee roaster in Canada I was on the hunt for some tasty java in Cuba (our resort's coffee wasn't that great). I was lead here by the reviews and our tour guide in Havana. I bought some roasted beans, still warm from that morning's roast, and sat down to a lovely espresso served promptly by our waitress. The view was incredible and it was a lovely way to spend twenty minutes sipping a coffee and watching people go by.

There's no point in trying to talk to any of the staff about their coffee as the entire coffee industry is government owned. The indoor, vented roaster was a nice touch. The coffee is roasted to a medium/dark and has a wonderful, bold tobacco flavour.

Thank you for the experience!
