We spent a week, Jan 17-24, 2012 in Cuba staying at a casa particular in Old Havana. We found the host family to be welcoming, pleasant & the service excellent. The room for 2 was 30 CUC per night. We had a clean basic room, a private bath with a shower & lots of hot water. We had excellent meals with a good variety, fresh fruit every morning & extremely generous portions, more than we could eat as a rule, the meals were 5-10 CUC each. We ate breakfast & dinner in every day. We were within walking distance of all the sights in Old Havana which was excellent for us; we explored the city but were still close enough to go back for a rest when we needed to. We felt safe on foot. We travelled by bus for 3CUC round trip to a beautiful beach, Santa Maria del Mar. Over all we had a pleasant experience and would recommend this casa to anyone interested in economical accommodations.

On arriving in Havana late in the evening we were welcomed with a wide smile. A lovely Casa. Breakfast the next day was very filling (fruit: guava, banana, melon, fresh bread, butter and honey, tea or coffee, eggs, fresh fruit juice). The rooms consisted of a comfy bed, clean bathroom, hot water shower and clean towels. Breakfast on request at anytime, as well as a hearty dinner (choice of meat with rice and / or salad pork, chicken, seafood choice). A great location for Havana Veja within walking distance of all squares and sites. Tip: Take a universal plug for the basin (generally not supplied in the 3 Casa's we experienced in Cuba).

Martha and Ramon's casa particular is just great!!! And I really recommend to go there if you plan to spend some time in Havanna. The whole family is very friendly. The rooms are comfortable and very clean. This casa particular is situated in Habana vieja and so you are close to many sights of the city. The Capitolio is just a 2 minutes walk, the main walking and shopping street is also close (100 meters)....
and a great advice: ask martha if you can eat at her house! her daughter is one of the best cooks in town...so you get very good dinner (better than in most of restaurants) for a very good price....
i'll come back for a third time for sure, as soon as possible!!!

This is a very nice casa and I recommend it to all my friends or people who travel to Cuba. Friendly family, very good food, they give you very good advice about the city, about buying cigars, rum, etc... The first time I stayed in their casa, was in 2006. I go every year to Cuba and I always go to this casa because of the friendly people, if you don't speak Spanish, there is no problem at all the granddaughter and her husband speak very good English.
The shrimps in enchiladasauce there is the best you can find.
The location is also very good, it's only 2blocks from the main shoppingstreet of Old Havana, "calle Obispo".
Staying at Martha's place feels like you are a part of the family.
