“Family friendly boutique luxury”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 May 2013

The Palacio San Felipe could not have been more perfect. Located near everything on a pretty, quiet square with excellent staff and modern rooms fully kitted. I stayed there with my husband and 1 1/2 year old twins. It was great to find a small romantic boutique hotel that could accommodate us with cots and high chairs, rather than staying at a big tourist place. The staff were super helpful and friendly. The breakfast was huge and top quality for cuba. If you can afford it, it's the best place to stay. I would defo go back.

Room Tip: Upgrade to a suite if you can, it's well worth it

Stayed here for 4 nights. Great location away from the other touristy areas but still walkable to all major attractions. Situated in a beautiful square. Breakfast was great. Rooms were clean. Front staff spoke good English and were very helpful. On the last day we had to check out by 6.30 am. There were able to make us breakfast even though the kitchen only opened at 7 am. Very accommodating. Close to lots of restaurants. Like I said it is set in a perfect location!
Would stay here again for sure.

Great location in the heart of old havana. THe building itself is beautiful and the rooms are basic but well appointed. For the price they are pretty much on the money. The service (like most of Havana) is lacklustre and uninterested. They are doing the bare minimum of their job. Don't take it personally - they aren't rude they just don't know any better.

Room Tip: try and get a room as high up as possible and not on the street side as its incredibly loud!

This is a beautiful old building and the lobby and dining area are fine. The rooms are two stars at best. Our air conditioning was poor, the valve on the shower didn't work properly, you had to kick the door open, and after a number of complaints they brought a new hair dryer (the wall mounted one had no hose). The touted roof plaza has apparently not been open in three years. I cannot compare to other Havana hotels but this would certainly not be my first choice.

This hotel is good! We stayed for 6 nights. It was very clean and whoever cleaned our room left us nice little towel creations each day. Included breakfasts (ordered from the menu) were wonderful and the service was great also. We ate one dinner in the hotel restaurant and it was really good too. The air conditioning worked perfectly and the bed was comfortable. It's in a great location accessible to everything. The only downside is that the windows don't have seals so there was noise from the streets, but overall I would highly recommend this hotel, and would stay there again in a heartbeat! A bathtub would be nice, but that's not a requirement.

by explanation for the title - we arrived after travelling 17 hours to find that although we had booked and paid for 2 rooms, only one was available for the first night. They did source another room on the other side of the old town but failed to provide any assistance in accessing it (neither did the holiday company we booked with The Holiday Place).
On day 2, with 2 rooms, we started to enjoy this charming boutique hotel and it's position in Old Havana.

Rooms: comfortable beds, decent bathrooms, good wardrobe space. In terms of cleanliness, OK on surfaces but don't look under the beds or in corners.

Facilities: interesting choices at breakfast but all well cooked and presented and fresh. We ate one meal and one snacking meal there and the food was really good - so are the prices of food and drink.

Position: excellent for walking the whole of the old town - BUT - when you arrive and depart you have to negotiate not just across the cobbled square, but also the current (March) roadworks, which at the pace they are working will probably carry on for some time. Tip: one of your party goes across to the hotel to seek help from a porter (unless you book with a decent holiday company who either accompanies you to reception or gets the porter for you).

Reception: most unhelpful, whether it be with directions to an attraction, what time anything happens or assistance with arrival/departure. The rest of the staff are charming.

WARNING: As the hotel has an open atrium through the middle every sound/noise is magnified. Throughout the night therefore you hear doors, voices etc.. Shame as it's such a charming hotel and the beds are very comfortable.

We stayed here for 2 nights in April, and was by far the best hotel we stayed in in Cuba. The rooms were clean and comfortable, the bathroom was great and the rooms are well air-conditioned.

The breakfast was fantastic! The menu has everything you could possibly want for breakfast. We also had dinner here, which did not disappoint. Was very impressed with the quality of the food.

The hotel is well located in Old Havana, looking over one of the Plazas, and thus only a short walk from the road (which is beneficial as with the paths under construction and cars not allowed into Old Havana the walk to the hotel in short).

I would recommend requesting a room on a higher floor. We stayed on the first floor directly above the open dining area. As a result the noise from breakfast would wake us up.
