“Great treat in Havana!”
Reviewed 21 March 2014

My wife and I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights the end of February 2014.

After reading many reviews of many hotels in Havana we decided to stay here and we were not disappointed at all.
The hotel is in a great location in the heart of the old part of Havana (Havana Vieja) very close to the port and in abeautiful square .

We got a room on the second floor (out of 4 floors). The rooms on the second floor have balconies which was great. The balcony faced the side quiet alley and not the main square in front of the hotel which might be noisy.
The room is large, clean nice bed but hasno additional amenities besides a small fridge, TV and hair dryer. Only one towel per person and when we asked for a few small towels they hardly understood what we wanted and said that they don't have...

The breakfast was great with a full À la carte breakfast menu with a VERY large variety to chose from. We didn't try the restaurant on the property but we understood that it is great too.

The staff were pleasant and helpfull. The reception usually has only one person on duty so there can be a queue.

We were able to store at the hotel 3 large suitcases for 4 days after we checked out and continued our trip in Cuba which was very usefull for us avoiding us to carry them with us. They charged for this 1CUC (about $1) a day per suitcase which we thought was very reasonable.

As I mentioned - the hotel is in the heart of Habana Vieja and is within walking distance to all of the main atractions in the area.
Wi-fi - 8CUC ($8) per hour with very poor and very slow connection like in all Cuba...
All in all we had a great stay and we will no doubt stay there again if and when we visit Havana again!

This hotel is in a refurbished old building and a really excellent location for exploring the old town. We found the area to be quieter than we had expected and it really is in the heart of Havana Vieja. The room was nice and good by Cuban standards. There is not much in terms of additional amenities. The bar is pretty soulless so you won't be kept awake by noise from it! The breakfast was average by Cuban standards (ie poor by most other standards) and the coffee was dreadful - again like most of the hotels we stayed in. Pleasant enough staff but few governments are good at running hotels so expect it to be an ok place to stay and nothing more.

Excellent location in the Old city in a beautiful square. Reception staff were very pleasant and helpful. Bar and restaurant staff a little sullen. A welcome drink was a very nice touch. Our room was fine, clean and comfortable. We unlike other reviewers had a very good breakfast and coffee.
We had lunch in the restaurant next door, Cafe del Oriente, which turned out to be the best food we had in Cuba!

Room Tip: The higher the room the better.

This hotel combines the best of old world architecture with new amenities. The layout is inspired and the rooms extremely comfortable. You're right in the heart of Habana Vieja and within walking distance to all of the things everyone else has to travel to get to. We had a fairly large tour group and they took great care of us all.

OK hotel, good old town location but service a bit hit and miss. On our early evening arrival we were recommended towards a nearby restaurant where we had one of our worst meals ever. Dreadful breakfast coffee! We stayed three nights; the room was modern and clean but we wouldn’t rush back. Overall, a bit soulless.

The location in the Old City is excellent (though, as has been noted elsewhere, the entrance is 50m across a cobbled square from taxi drop-off so be sure you can manage your cases). The building has been sympathetically restored and the central atrium is attractive. We found the rooms very spacious and well appointed by Cuban hotel standards.
The breakfast was fine though service somewhat variable.
We had a major issue with noise in our first room (106) and had to ask to be moved after a sleepless night. The hotel managed this and the next room was much better. Nevertheless, there is an amount of noise from both within and without the hotel - being on higher floors moves you away from it to a degree.
Reception was mostly helpful, but usually there is only one person on duty so you can end up waiting extended periods if there is a queue to check-in.

Room Tip: Absolutely refuse rooms 106 & 107. In general aim for upper floors.

The hotel is located in the heart of the old city and with the Central atrium looks excellent. Yet the smells in the rooms as well a lights that needed replacement plus the arrogant staff let the beautiful architecture down. Michael and the room maid as well as Regland on reception went out of their way to assist. The helpfulness ended there and incorrect bills as well as a lack of understanding and customer focus made our stay stressful. The roof terrace was off limits and they refused to open it. However looking through the glass door we could see that there was no reason for this beautiful space being off limits. A missed opportunity to be a great place to stay in Havana.
We gave our comments to the very helpful Martha at Latin America travel company who were very helpful in our sojourn in Cuba. A shout out for our local guide Luis Alberto who was excellent in every way. Book him if you travel to Cuba.
