A great casa to finish off our Cuba holiday. A flat for the price of a room with a lovely lounge and a little balcony. Great location just seconds away from the Malecon. Wonderful and friendly host. What more do you need? Highly recommended.

Good location, great food, very comfortable and informative start for a trip to Cuba. Dory (a doctor) and her mom, Maria, are wonderful hosts. This was the only Casa in Cuba where we were quickly and accurately informed of the basic things we needed to know - what to avoid eating and drinking, what scams to avoid on the streets, etc. This was all helpful during our first two hours wandering about. Dory was incredibly helpful in making calls to book cases in other towns we wanted to visit and basically helped us plan the balance of our month in Cuba. And, the food......YUM!

We spent two nights in this casa, which in fact isn't a casa as you get a whole flat just for you. They have 2 bedrooms, as there were 3 of us we had both rooms for us. It seems that if you only need one room, you still get the entire flat to yourselves.
This is also the place we slept best during our trip: no cocks waking you up in the morning, so noice from the street, bliss!

The place is within easy walking distance of old Havana and also of Vedado. Don't be put of by the fact that it is in Central Havana. We actually liked Central Havana, as it seems more like the 'real' Havana, without the crowds you'll have to face in old Havana.

The lovely owners Maria and her daughter Dori then move to their flat at the back of the building. The flat is immaculate, definitely the cleanest place we stayed in during our 2 week tour of Cuba. Both Maria and Dori as very welcoming, Dori speaks perfect english. They are very discrete and there to respond to your every whim.
Dori is very knowledgeable about Havana so make sure to ask her where to buy your souvenirs, she has very good tips.

Casa 1940 is well situated for visiting central Havana and the old town, which are within easy walking distance. Casa 1940 is a self-contained flat (linked to Casa 1932, which is just round the corner). It is comfortable and clean, with attentive hosts Dory and her mother Maria on hand to provide good food and any help that is needed. In contrast to the flat, the neighbourhood may appear rather derelict, like much of Havana, but it is safe and friendly.

My stay in Casa 1940 is one of my fondest memories of Havana. Doris and Maria are wonderful and discreet hosts, always there to help. The Casa - actual flat not just a room! - is kept to a very high standard, and has a very homely feel to it. Somewhere you are looking forward to return to after a long day of exploring Havana. The location is excellent, and most main attractions are in walking distance. The breakfasts really are second to none, and keep you full until dinner...

A big thank you to Luis Miguel from Casa 1932 for organising the stay in the sister Casa 1940.

Stayed at Casa 1940 in Late January 2013. The hosts Dory and Maria are fantastic. They are full of information and are willing to help you in any matter. The place is very large and the neighbourhood is safe. Everything you need you will find. in our two half days we managed to see everything in Havana and some places we saw twice. May I also say we were with our two year old boy and we did all our exploring on foot. The location is off to the side in a typical Havana neighbourhood. You will definitely get a taste of how the local live.
We had late night dinner and early breakfast at the Casa provided by the host for a reasonable price. I do recommend. They juices were amazing!!!
There is also Luis around the corner from Casa 1932. We spent some time there and he was also full of useful information.
We used their driver to get to Varadero in an amazing 1958 Mercedes Benz for the best rate ever.
Like a said, you're in good hands.

Definitely recommend Casa 1940!!!

My husband and I came back to Cuba for the second time andwe really wanted to visit Havana. We were lucky enough to spend 3 days and 2 nights in Casa 1940. This place is perfectly situated near El Malecon and a 10-minute walk to Old Havana. We walked everywhere and it was a nice retreat to go back to Casa 1940, which is away from the main tourist area. You can really see how the locals live in this area. Maria and Dory were amazing hosts. Breakfast was delicious every morning and they had so many tips about the city (reserving restaurants, where to get the best coffee, how to get tickets to a baseball game). This Casa is also very close to one of the top restaurants in Havana, La Guarida. We would definitely book this place again when we visit Havana!
