“Quirky place!!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 July 2014

We came here based on tripadvisor recommendations and happy that we did! It is in central havana rather than the old part but what an amazing quirky eccentric little place. We were made to feel very welcome and although the restaurant was fully reserved we were shown a table. We all had slave quarter soup to start with which was delicious, then my husband had lamb stew and my daughter and I had shredded beef, which to be honest was quite tough and chewy. We then had shots and were given a tour which was great. My only complaint was it was roasting in there and they could do with some fans. The food wasn't the best we ate but the ambiance and staff made up for it. We were even shown a pic of Beyoncé and Jay Z!

“Great starter and service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 July 2014

The plate of tapas style starters was probably the best thing we ate during 2 weeks in Cuba. Unfortunately the mains, sweet and sour chicken and breaded fish with Florentine sauce, were not quite to the same standard. However they were probably not terribly well chosen, as there were specials available.

Very friendly and efficient service, including complimentary cigar and rum, with a tour of the premises to finish. Highly recommended.

“Excellent”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 July 2014

Location is excellent, service is excellent, food is great, a bit pricey for Havana standards (16 CUC$ for fish filet, potatoes and a glass of white wine), but worth it.

“Havana Palador San Cristobal”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 July 2014

In Havana most of the restaurants are the state owned ones. This means that the personnel get paid no matter what. Bad service, mediocre food and no incentive to be better. Some try but are mostly still lacking with younger staff having to be prompted by the more conscientious, and usually older staff. There are thankfully some that are better even among the state run ones. Over the last few years private enterprise is being introduced and in the restaurant business this is a great improvement as now the privately owned restaurants, "Paladars" are opening up. Owners are making great efforts to emulate "The best of the West" and are having great success. The San Cristobal is one of the best of these. It is situated in San Rafael St which is about a mile outside of "The Old Town" and from the outside looks not to impressive but upon entering it is fabulous. It gives an old world impression with plants, curiosities, pictures and other sundry objets d'art in various rooms that create an outstanding, laid back feeling, a world away from what we had come to expect in Cuba in general. It had character! The food from their wide ranging menu was exemplary. Couldn't fault it at all and it was all served on charming bone china with every table having different sets and lay ups. I guess that they were from all the old colonial houses that made up Havana in its "Hey Day" . We had a great meal and drinks with good service and surprise, surprise. It was all very reasonably priced. Just a shade over the usual but. the experience made it seem very cheap. 5 star at 3 star prices. We went and returned in one of the old American cars which really made the evening.

“True dining gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 July 2014

I discovered this restaurant on Tripadvisor, and mistakenly thought that it was a place for Fresa and Chocolate movie. No regrets that I was mistaken! Excellent food, 5-star service and lots of caracter in the design of the whole place. You immediately feel like you are in the setting of the movie - either Fresa and Chocolate or 7 dias en Havana.
Everything we had was of high quality. We had lobster Hemingway (intended for 3 people)- included fresh local fish and shrimps. It was cooked perfect! We asked what do they mean by vegetable salad and got the response that they can customize it for us. So, our salad was just the way we like it - lettuce, avocado, tomatoes, cucumber, in a very good proportion. I write about it because too many times in Cuba I got an impression that people do not understand the salads - usually it is a strange mixture of cabbage, cucumbers and avocado, sometimes peppers.
My daughter wanted chicken - it was excellent too. And, of course, the bottle of Chilean wine was a perfect accompaniment for our dinner.
The waiter was very attentive and frendly. It is truly reasonably priced, our check for 3 people (including wine and most expensive item on the menu) was 92 cuc.
Do not be put off by the street, of course, it is not the best street in Havana, but not really the truly bad one. In fact, again, it makes you feel that you are experiencing part of the movie about Havana.
