“They went out of their way for us!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 December 2013

We arrived late and received the last room - a bit small. The next day they moved us to an amazing large room and separate facilities. Lovely!!

The breakfast was more than we could eat!!

Met some lovely couples while at the hotel.

I am a massage addict and they arrange for an excellent masseur - reasonably priced - to come to the hotel.

If we were returning to Cuba we would return to Villanueva.

Stayed here in May for 6 days. The hotel is situated the best way possible: 10-20 minute max walk to all the main attractions and sights.
All the rooms in the hotel are situated on the second floor. Warning - there is one room without windows! Maybe it's good for people who like to return to a really quiet place to have a nice sleep. But I asked for a window, so the staff was very helpful and moved me to another room. The rooms are quite spacious. Maybe the furniture isn't that new, but it all looks really authentic. And it's really clean. All rooms have TV, mini-bar. No wi-fi - sorry that's a problem in Cuba.
As I said - the staff is very helpful and kind.
The hotel has a nice green courtyard. It's really nice to have breakfast outside watching peacocks walking around you. I loved my stay at this beautiful place. The price isn't high for a boutique hotel. After visiting this hotel, I decided to pay more attention to authentic boutique hotels while traveling, rather than choosing modern, but boring places to stay.
Would definitely recommend it to all my friends.

stayed there for 10 nights.Had booked on-line with Otel.com,so check-in was totally hasslefree and efficient.I have to agree with mcfalci, though, tipping seems to make a difference, but then,on vacation why not,and one $ goes a long way in Cuba. The breakfast was too much, but they brought it anyway, cold cuts, pancakes, eggs with whatever, bread, butter, jam, juice and a big fruitplatter,coffee.......lunch is not an option! I had a huge room facing the street, but since there are no cars allowed it was quiet. When the windows are closed you don't hear a thing. The aircondition worked perfectly, they even have cable-TV,but if you need CNN and BBC in Havana - you got it! Even DW-TV was available plus some movie channels. This may come in handy if you take a midday break from the heat.September can get pretty steamy! The place is very clean but I recommend to bring your own bathroom goodies, yeah - you know......but they DO have hairdryers. The location of the hotel is right where the action is,so no long walks to most of the sights in Havana Vieja. There are safes in the room,a minibar (meaning you have a small refrigerator in your room) and right in the hotel is a very good restaurant (Vuelta Abajo) that also has an excellent bar.Since the hotel is very small it feels like staying in a friends house.

Room Tip: you want real quiet get a room facing the patio, you want local color - a room facing the street,the...

We stayed here for four nights and were very impressed with this picturesque hotel. The room was massive and very clean. It may be dated but what in Havana isn't? It's perfectly located to explore Havana Viega and is easy enough to get anywhere else.

The staff were friendly and helpful (waiting staff could sometimes be a bit rushed) and we enjoyed the breakfast (fruit, bread, pancakes and eggs).

My boyfriend and I decided to book this hotel for our 2 first nights in Havana based on the review of Lonely Planet (which turned out to be a very poor guide for Cuba).
Arriving was easy, cause it's very central in the restored part of Havana Vieja.
At the front desk the staff was very nice and enthusiastic about our arrival, but once we didn't tip them immediately after, the next day they shut their faces and made no efforts to help us (unfortunately this became very common through out our trip).
But that's one of the things you have to learn to ignore if you wanna go to Cuba.
You won't find four seasons' service and amenities there.
Having said that, the hotel is good, lots of character, feeling like a travel back in the colonial time.
The room was spacious and it was very silent (this is a part of town where cars are not allowed). I would wake up with the sound of the birds from the patio. But doesn't have a window, it has big doors you can open but it faces the aisle.
The bathroom was ok, but it was missing the shower door.
The breakfast wasn't spectacular, but none of them really are in Cuba.
They have 3 peacocks wondering around the hotel, which is nice and a very good cigar shop with helpful staff.
The building from the outside is beautiful. It's walking distant from most of relevant spots in town.

Stayed at Parque Central for 3 nights then Cayo Largo for 6 nights. This Hostal was "stepping out of my comfort zone" for one night before flying home. We as a family were impressed (apart from one teenager who has been spoilt). It was beautiful - far from the formality and falseness of a chain hotel. Unique, clean, unusual and charming. I could have explored for hours - the older kids were annoyed that they had bought cheap cigars in Cayo Largo after seeing the brilliant cigar shop/museum upstairs. The cigar expert did not hassle you (unlike everywhere else in Havana) every thing was priced and you could browse without being bothered - loved the Michael Douglas photos! The breakfast was served by the most efficient waiter we had come across during our whole time in Havana - even the four teenagers remarked on how good he was. Loveley breakfast - too much bread for 2 people but enough to eat and all very tasty. Lovely atmosphere all round. Recommend for a stay for a couple of days - only gripe was miserable, grumpy female receptionist - needs to be taught how to smile to customers even though she may not feel like it !
Otherwise, all staff really nice.

Room Tip: Party had varied rooms - all unique in own way - just dated bathrooms bur very clean

The rooms where huge with lovely high ceilings and gave a quiet retreat in the centre of old Havana. Complete with resident peacock family (just watch you step when you come out of your room in case of a present left by them!!) Restaurant is OK, nothing superb but clean, cool and edible food!
