Hotel Mercure Sevilla Havane
Ranked #8 of 80 Hotels in Havana
Reviewed 25 June 2014

The old Seville captures the essence of Cuba, what the Irish call the Craic! It's about the live music and the atmosphere, echoing the era when Havana was the playground of Hollywood and the Mafia. The Seville was, until the Revolution, a Casino with hotel attached. It's a monument to those times, bedecked with memorabilia. But it's also classsic late 19th Century Spanish in architecture and as soon as you step inside the magnificent lobby you enter another era. The service is supreme - from the front desk, through hospitality and housekeeping. The housekeeping staff are towel art specialists and if you show them some kindness (a wee note every day thanking them for their good work, plus of course a bit of cash) you will receive some towel art on your bed and maybe a letter. Check out the photos on this site. You can feed yourself adequately here but there's too many restaurants within easy walking distance to linger for the food. Breakfasts are pretty good. The place is pretty run down though and neither of the two rooms we stayed in while here (on two visits) would stand up to the international Accor quality standard. You can't blame management for old and tired, but you can blame them for not being clean. So, while there are some (lucky) rave reviews here about the rooms, don't get your hopes up! Hotel security is very good (and so it is throughout Havana) and the hotel is pretty close to everything touristy except Verado (Hotel Nacionale, Havana Libre) but they are only a short inexpensive taxi ride away. Loved it! Would stay here again despite its foibles :-)

Room Tip: Go for the 5+ floors. It isn't a noisy hotel so you don't need to get away from anything.

This hotel was recommended by a friend. In my previous trips to Havana I stayed at the Melia Cohiba, which was nice and closer to what I would expect but being in Havana for a short stay I needed something in the old town. They have great service, the rooms are quiet, comfortable, clean and everything is functional. There is live music performances everyday in the lobby cafe and on the ninth floor during breakfast. Plus you get that old colonial Habana feel. Location is great since you can walk to any major tourist site. There are plenty of bars and restaurants near by and the concierge did a great job. If you need to make travel arrangements to get to Cuba, especially if you are a private airplane crew, get in touch with Fabrice from 2c2 travel agency. He is located at the hotel and will be able to help. He knows everybody!

Room Tip: Ask for the higher floor rooms

I was cautious when booking this hotel, as I had heard mixed reviews. I need not have worried, this hotel was brilliant and I would happily return, should I be in Havana again in the future.

The rooms are large and spacious. The bathrooms are clean and there is plenty of hot running water. The air con is effective and is definitely needed in Havana!

The breakfast is plentiful, if not very exciting. There was always fresh fruit, bread and eggs. There was a live band playing during breakfast each day.

Music is a key theme in the hotel and there are frequently concerts and performances. We arrived on opera night and although not being opera fans, we decided to give it a go and we loved it.

The hotel do a deal 'bottle of 3 year old Havana Club rum & 4 cans of coke for $12' this is a really good deal and kept us going for our stay in the hotel.

The location is just a short walk from the hustle of the old town. Easy to access, but just on the edge to give you some peace and escapism from the noise of the streets.

The best thing about this hotel is the beautiful pool. I loved exploring Havana in the morning and heading back for a refreshing dip in the pool in the afternoon. Ideal!

The only point to note, is that should the hotel book your onward bus tickets for you, you will be charged $2 a ticket for this. I wouldnt have any concerns with this - it is a booking fee- but they do not tell you this, you discover it for yourselves later on.

This is a beautiful hotel, a bit in need of TLC, but then most of Havana falls into this category, ideally located, with good rooms and a pool - the perfect base to explore Old Havana!

Room Tip: We had a corner room, and had more space because of this. Rooms overlooking the main road can be a...

Over tired we strumbled in the hotel on a wednesday evening.
Quick service for the luggage, check inn and entrance to the room.
Nice music at the reception.
We got a nice room on the 8 th floor with view over HAVANA and the ocean.
The breakfast at the 9th floor was fantastic. A must to do and the room is worth a visit.
Nice piano music or a trio who is bringing music.
During the week you get piano music from the National Ballet school on the over side of the building.
the swimming pool makes the difference with other hotels in HAVANA.
This is a very welcoming refreshment after a long hot crazy day in the city!
Very nice experience in general.

Room Tip: ask for the 8th floor with view on the ocean. quiet and splendid view. you got awake with piano musi...

My initial impressions of the hotel upon arrival were really positive. The building has a beautiful façade and the lobby is stunning. Unfortunately I was very disappointed when we were shown our room on the third floor. The room didn't have much natural daylight and felt very grimy. Bedcovers and cushion covers were stained, mould growing in the bathroom, dirty streaks across furniture tops and mirrors and dusty elsewhere.

In fairness to the hotel they were very quick to find us an alternative room, this time on the fifth floor. The room was spacious and the cleanliness of this room was a lot better, though still not what you would expect from Mercure and a four star rating.

We stayed at this hotel for five nights and we were very comfortable there. The staff were very friendly, particularly those working in the Patio and poolside. They gave us good tips for our stay in Havana and really made our time at the Hotel Sevilla enjoyable.

The hotel is in a great location for the Paseo del Prado, Habana Vieja, the Malecon and Central Havana. The pool is a great bonus after a day sightseeing and despite the initial concerns we wee really glad to have booked this hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on one of the higher floors, floor five at least.

Dear customer:
We are working hard to keep the hotel clean although is a challenge because it is an open concept hotel, located on the old part of the city, not like newer hotels that are enclosed and air-conditioned. We appreciate your comments and we promise we will work harder to meet our customer’s expectations.

My Wife and I spent 4 days at the Hotel Seville in the old part of Havana, we read a few disturbing reviews and we were pleasantly surprised, the things that we were warned of never happened, the lifts worked, breakfast was great, the evening entertainment was fantastic, Money changing was done professionally, there was toilet paper, and check in and out went smoothly.

Yes the rooms are dated, the hotel is old a faded in places, but that's what we expected and old hotel in old Havana to be like, we had the room directly above the one Al Capone used to use, in being in the corner it was spacious, with plenty of hot water.

We did a walking tour with a guide of Havana and we also did our own thing on the other days, we didn't get lost, the hotel is slap bang in the middle of the city and opposite the Havana school of Ballet.

Room Tip: Ask for a corner room if possible as the views are fantastic.
