Stayed at the Telegrafo for six nights, allocated a standard large room (314), problem was water coming through the bathroom light fitting in the early hours. After seveal hours following day with ceiling removed several chaps with spanners and ladders we requested another room, slightly smaller (317) but in our opinion better, no shower from the light and the wardrobe drawers worked. Nice beds and excellent views looking over the crossroads of Calle Prado and Neptuno. Easy walking access to the old town and some good eating houses, well served with taxis both new & old + bike taxis. Noise in our room was never an issue. The hotel is one of the few with a street level terrace, looking onto Jose Marti square, good for people watching and an evening drink, the inside bar we did not consider inviting or comfortable. We only ever had breakfast in, buffet style and adequate, though without the close attention of the manager we got the impression selection would be limited, the omlette man was very good however. Downsides - some renovations still being carried out though this never inconvenienced us, rickety lift and the third floor hall smelt quite badly, the carpets were cleaned whilst we stayed but the smell did not abate. Some staff are not as freindly as could be expected and almost without exception prefered chatting to each other or on the phone to actually paying attention to their jobs.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the junction 317 etc

During our trip in Cuba, we stayed twice in this Hotel (we booked there for the first 3 nights already from home and came back for the last night of our trip as we've been quite satisfied it at the first time).
The Hotel is ideally located right next to the pedestrian area and old town of Havanna, the rooms are ok from the size and are cleaned well by the staff.
Breakfast is quite basic but the quality still is OK and the pretty nice thing is the live band playing just next to the buffet :-).
However, Windows are not that soundproof as they could be and in one room they even didn't shut properly and that's why you really might wake up during the night because of street noise (as the Cubans are mostly driving historic cars, they provide an corresponding sound....). (maybe try to get a room not facing the main street - however, you then won't be able to "watch" the real Cuban life directly out of your window).
Though, all in all a quite good hotel according to Cuban standards and not that overpriced than other hotels are (remember, if you stay in a casa you will pay only a quarter of a hotel's price and in most of the times you will get much better lodging, service & food...)

p.s.: if you intend to go to the airport from/to the hotel, don't pay more than 25 CUC for a taxi (you should negociate as they will try to get you up to 35 CUC...)

Room Tip: If you are a light sleeper, try to get a room not facing the main street.

We spent 5 nights at the hotel and had a great room on the 3rd floor overlooking the square. Apart from the service from the staff, which has been mentioned in numerous other reviews, we found it really nice and convenient. The hotel has undergone renovations and they are pretty good. Don't rely on the lift though, (we had 4 breakdowns in 5 days) and don't expect anything to be done "in a hurry" by the staff. It just isn't Cuba unless everything takes time. We had a couple of meals at the restaurant and they were OK, but their are many great places to eat close by. The breakfast was OK and the omelet station (and cooks) were really good. What was a real nice touch was being offered a lovely espresso coffee at 3.00am as we left for the airport for an early flight while the night manager went to wake up our driver from somewhere. All in all, a really good hotel in a great location with the bonus of being able to experience the Cuban culture around service.

Room Tip: Try for a room up high overlooking the square. You will be very impressed.

In mid April 2014 stayed 2 nights at Telegrafo
    Excellent location. Staff friendly.
    Comical situation during my stay...
Found ants in the room, got into my backpack. Called front desk and spoke to them in fluent Spanish... answer from front desk : "Cuba is tropical expect other insects much worse than ants"
The ants come from the balconies.
    Second night everything was clean.

We spent 3 nights in this Hotel on our 3 weeks trip in Cuba. The hotel is very well located, just a few minutes of walk to the Habanna Vieja.
Rooms and Reception Area are well maintained.
The first day, I had a towel wich had "suspect" stain. The breakfast buffet was very poor (compared to that what you get for breakfast in the casa particulares).
The bar is very nice in an opened atmosphere but the staff was unfriendly.
