“Nice caribbean house, outstanding family!”
Reviewed 25 May 2014

I have been living in the Casa Mayra for 7 months, because I studied a semester in Havana. I will never forget the warm atmosphere with Mayra and Enrique. They were always willing and able to help me in every situation...
The house has two air conditioned rooms with two Beds and a bath. The rooms are "caribbean style" with coulorful walls and pictures and of course they are always clean.
The house is in Centro Habana, which is in the middle of Old Havana (the most important quarter for sightseeing) and Vedado with the university and a lot of nice bars, cabarets and clubs. You can walk to Old Havana within 20 minutes or catch one of those old cars at the streets Carlos III and Infanta. I highly recommend you to try one of these cars, it will cost about 40 Cents per person to Old Havana including the typical cuban atmosphere in these cars ;-)
Of course Mayra will explain you how to get there and lots of other useful advises - she is born in Old Havana and knows everything about the city. She always wants her guests to get to know her city and the cuban people and is always willing to explain all the crazy little characteristics of Havana and Cuba. Countless nights, Mayra, me and other tourists were just sitting in these typical rocking chairs, having a Mojito or beer and discussing about Havana, Cuba and all the differences to the countries we come from. It is a nice and easy way to learn something about the cuban people, their lifestyle and opinions, which may differ to those of the travel guides...
If you don`t speak spanish, it won`t be a problem, because Enrique will be able to translate into english.
Last but not least some words about the food. Don´t miss her dinner! It is great! I am not the greatest fan of cuban food but Mayra is always able to create something very tasty, using chicken, pork, fish, lobster, sweet potato, yucca, banana and rice, whatever you want!
I will never forget the time, spending with this family and their friends.
Thank you Mayra!

The casa of Mayra y Kike is in a good position next to 2 important main streets where you can find almost anything (including atm!) and 10-15 minutes walking far from Havana tourist center.

Everything is very clean, nice and typical, there's a nice living-room with rocking chairs to relax and many interesting photos and portraits, the kitchen and 2 rooms for rent: the first one is accessible through a few stairs and is very quiet and cozy, the second one is bigger because it's divided on the 2 floors, as a small apartment, with the king size bed on the upper floor. Both rooms are very nice and have everything (air conditioning, hot/cold water etc.), the bigger one is just a little bit noisy because next to the street, but nothing too annoying.

Food is excellent, Mayra is a great cooker and her prices are cheaper (but not less tasty) than in other casas. Breakfast is good, but dinner is awesome!
It's very interesting to talk with her and Kike, they're always at your disposal to talk, give suggestions, tell stories and they are so kind!! Don't hesitate to ask them for anything.

I strongly recommend this casa particular because it offers excellent rooms and services, the position and the prices are good and they want to restructure it by putting a nice veranda/terrace (!!). But I recommend it mainly because of Mayra, my Cuban mummy :) See u soon!

Room Tip: One room is smaller and more quiet, the other is bigger and a little bit noisy (just on the ground f...

We had a great time in Havana, staying at Casa Mayra y Enrique made our stay. Always somewhere comfy and clean to come back to, and Mayra and Enrique are such friendly people, giving us all the advice we needed and making us feel right at home. The location was perfect, an easy walk to anywhere we wanted to go, we looked forward to coming back to Havana again at the end our travels in Cuba to come back and stay in their house again!

Room Tip: We had the double room upstairs, they also have another larger room which a family could stay in.
