If you know what you're getting into, this hotel will absolutely suffice for inexpensive lodging while visiting Cuba. Like nearly everything else on the island, the facility is in serious need of maintenance. Rooms may have no hot water, no water at all, or maybe the air conditioner won't work. HOWEVER, the upside is that the staff are all so nice and helpful so if you're patient and confident in your Spanish you can fanagle your way into a suitable room. The internet services are limited hours and impossibly slow, but Hotel Vedado is in a very good location so there all alternatives near by if you need to get online. If you come in with an open mind (maybe equate it more to camping rather than a traditional hotel experience), the staff really do their best to make it a pleasant stay. The pool is actually quite nice and the bar makes a pretty good mojito so while Vedado is definitely not a luxury experience, I found it quite suitable for my stay.

We have been to Cuba a few times abd there are excellent Casas and Hotels. This was not one of them. We know problems occur in Cuba but this was a long catalogue of problems, plus a couldn't be bothered attitude. Other hotels and casas are good so why not this one. Briefly, a leaking cistern, no wash basin for a couple of days, no hot water for a couple of days, lifts often not working (6 flights is a long climb up and down at our age), flooded bathroom from cistern, often having to wait for plates, knives, forks at breakfast. We eventually got moved on the last day to a room with no toilet paper (fortunately we provided our own) and missing light bulbs (amazingly, we hadn't brought any with us). Repeated requests for toilet paper fell on deaf ears. The other places we stayed at were cheaper and excellent.

This hotel came as a result of our Airline Ticket purchase. The staff was very nice. The beds were your basic huge piece of form with clean sheets. The room was fairly small with two separate beds. The bathroom was very old fashion but with a full tub. Internet was only available if you purchased a card and only available for a few hours per day and poor connection.
For those on a very tight budget ... it is a very basic hotel and a good value.
There was a very good band in the Lobby in the early evening but way too many breaks between playing.

Quality vs Price-Good value for what I received.

Front desk / Reception-The staff was more than friendly and helpful at all times. This includes all the bellmen as well. They are constantly smiling and wonderful.

Pool-It was clean and there were several chairs to use. There was also a pool bar which was great and they came to you 9also a plus).

Room-Clean and in decent shape. Not modern by any means but I didn’t have high expectations. I can’t say enough about Fefi the housekeeper who found me an electricity convertor because I didn’t realize that I needed one.

Bathroom-Clean, lots of counter space and great shower with plenty of hot water and excellent pressure.

Staff -In general the staff was friendly and attentive. Everyone was wonderful no matter where I went.

Cleanliness-The place is fairly clean.

Food / Restaurants-Food was less than spectacular. I only ate breakfast at the hotel and simply ate the omelets which were great.

Lobby Bar-The café con leche was the best I’d ever had!!! Nightly entertainment included Cuban bands on most nights. It was amazing!

Location-Perfect location if you like to explore. This hotel is in the Vedado area at Calle 23 y O which is La Rampa. The gorgeous Malecon is steps away and it is lively in the district both day and night. My personal favourite is Sofia’s right on the corner. If you like to people watch, you will thoroughly enjoy the show. Live bands every day and night. You can also enjoy a Bucanero and 10 croquetas for $2 a block away next to the artisan market. It is a $5 cab ride to Old Havana (any location) or if you take an Almendron it’s 50 cents and drops you off at The Capitolio.
