“Very loud and electronic”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 March 2013

I have to say that although the band was good I dont recognize the "Buena Vista Social Club" sound. It is a relative small room-upstairs-and if you wonder why the first seats in front of the band are free, it is because the guests wants to sit as far as possible from the very very big loudspeakers which blast out a very loud sound. It has nothing to do any more with "Trova= trobadour" an unplugged music and sound. Of course Buena Vista also were plugged in when they made their tour, but they were on a big scene, and here you are in a smaller place.
But of course you will have to at least go in and see the place.

“A full night of salsa dancing”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 February 2013

We had the best night dancing at the Casa de La Trova. The band was awesome and people were dancing in every available open space. It was great dancing with locals as well as tourist. I barely sat down the whole time I was there. Without a doubt I will visit Casa de La Trouva anytime I'm in Santiago.

“Great music and dancing”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 August 2012

We went to the upstairs part of the club one evening during our stay in Santiago. We sat on the balcony where we could hear the exceptional band, watch the professional and skilful amateur dancers, watch people dancing in the street outside and generally relax with some drinks. The staff were very pleasant and friendly. We really enjoyed our night. There was one negative thing; despite obviously being there as a couple, as we started to leave I was abruptly approached by one of the young women who attend the club to buy her a drink. We don't know if this is a regular occurence at the club, because the next night we went to the Patio de Artex and had no oportunities for further evenings in the Trouva to compare it to.

“A Historical musical expeience.”

I cannot really add to Fillorino’s review below, except to also implore you, if you enjoy Cuban sounds, to go to the Casa de La Trova, if you visit Santiago.
As mentioned, as well as being the birth place of the revolution, Santiago is the birthplace of the Buena Vista Social Club and the Casa just reeks musical history and Pedigree.
Like Fillorino we caught a local band mid afternoon playing informally in the downstairs room and it was a real pleasure.
If you visit Santiago on a day trip like we did and only have a few hours in the centre, then walk round the squares and back roads of the centre, and when you are ready for a drink, head to the Casa de La Trove, pay the small entrance fee, and sit back with a Mojito

“Salsa and Afro-Cuban music, there is no better option.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 February 2012

Famous music club where far more famous "Buena Vista Social Club" was originated. If you visit Cuba and have enough time in Santiago, the best (and not commercial) place to listen the real Cuban music is here. Don't waste your time with "tropicana", if you really want to spend 90 CUC you will go in Havana. You can not find such performances elsewhere and you pay just 5 CUC for the entry. If you have any drink later, what you will pay are peanuts.
