Just returned from a fantastic holiday, hotel was very good. The location was perfect, minutes walk to the beach, the sea was very clear and clean, water activities available, beach bar and for those who like activity plenty of sports, volleyball, football and aqua aerobics, The pool area was also very clean, with games available. There is a pool bar, ice cream parlour and towel change around the pool.
The rooms are more than adequate with fridge, iron, hair dryer, the bed linen and towels were changed everyday, also in the room is a safe deposit box.
The food was good always something different, yes the main buffet could get hectic, we tried all the al a carte, all excellent, my favourite was the Italian.
You do need to get out and see Cuba, it is a wonderful friendly country, we went to Havana, the overnight trip to Trinidad, day trip which included old sugar factory, speed boat trip, also swam with the dolphins. Spent time in the town, trip to the Beatles Bar which is a very good night out. A member of out party had cause to visit the medical centre at the hotel and again can't fault the service.
Do spray yourself in the evenings with insect repellant and remember the sun screen even when cloudy.

Overall the holiday was perfect, would I return to Cuba yes I would, would I return to the same resort yes, but that will depend on UK holiday companies, Thomsons have already stopped going to Varadero, such a shame

Went in May, was the second time we have been there, 6 years ago my daughter got married there! Very friendly and nothing was any trouble for the waiters in the lobby bar, especially Alain he was lovely and looked after us very well. Did'nt like the buffet food very much but there were lots of nice places to eat. Our room was on the 6th floor and it was lovely and quite and clean and tidy. We will definatly be going back in May 20015. The beach was paradise and the sea was warm and blue..... A very long flight from England but WELL worth it! Thankyou guys for a fabulous holiday.

This is a very tired hotel and not a 4* by any standards. We likened it to Butlins Holiday Camp as very noisy during the day with music in the pool and beach areas curtesy of the hotel staff. Not a peaceful holiday if you are looking for one. The main restaurant could not cope with the number of guests and was far too busy and noisy. The food was poor quality and warm and never hot, try and book the other quieter restaurants. The evening in the main bars was a mixture of far too many people queuing for drinks and a pub singer competing with a show in a separate room. Again, don't expect a relaxing evening if you fancy a drink.

There is currently building site next to the hotel with constant noise throughout the day. There are three cranes visible from the beach. We were asked three times to take cover during the day due to explosions and the potential of flying debris.

Learn to get up early and 'reserve' your sun beds as this seems to be the norm. Again not enough facilities to cope with the number of guests.

Think twice before booking this tired and overly busy hotel. The only positive was that the beach was perfect with very clear and warm water.

Dear guest,

Thank you for choosing our hotel to stay for your holidays, and we regret that you did not enjoy them.

We apologize for all the inconveniences you had during your stay.

Our hotel has a great occupancy all over the year, with an average of 1,100 guests, this means that there are people everywhere.

One of the main characteristics of Sol Palmeras, among others, is the good quality of our entertainment. There is music at the swimming-pool and at the lobby bar in the evening according to the hours planned, but we also have many places in the hotel where there is not any music and you could perfectly relax.

Regarding the issue at the restaurant, it happens because in some occasions many of our guests want to go into the restaurant at the same time, and this is impossible. Nevertheless, we would like to inform you that we are studying the possibility to enlarge the buffet restaurant.

We accept your opinion about food, it is difficult to eat at a buffet restaurant, some persons like it and some others do not.

I apologize one more time for not having fulfilled your expectations during your stay in our hotel.

We hope to continue having the occupancy we have in our hotel, therefore I know it is difficult to ask you to reconsider your opinion and give us another opportunity to be your hosts again, and we will prove we can fulfill what you hoped of Sol Palmeras.

Sincerely,
Tomeu Alcina

We stayed at Sol Palmeras as a group of 43 for my Wedding. I didn't know what to expect when I got down there. The hotel was beautiful and the staff were incredibility friendly. Ana Maria was our wedding coordinator. She did a fantastic job! We couldn't do much planning from Canada so we were a little nervous that we were relying on Ana Maria when we got down there. She asked all of the right questions and organized the most beautiful Wedding. I chose tropical flowers and my bouquet was huge and all of the flowers were gorgeous. She decorated the beach with flowers and chairs with pretty white covers. Our meal was delicious and all of the staff were so attentive. Upon our arrival, there were chocolates and sparkling wine in our room. The evening of our Wedding, our room was decorated with hearts and flowers and they had even drawn a bubble bath. She made our guests, my fiancee (now husband) and myself feel right at home and incredibly special the entire week. Ana Maria was there for us all day and late into the night, going above and beyond, and was always available and always friendly, she was just wonderful. Guests in our group who have attended destination weddings before said that this was the best one they had ever been too!

Our Wedding was perfect, better than anything that we could have imagined. Thank you to Ana Maria and the entire hotel staff at Sol Palmeras!

We stayed here from 23 May-7 June and had a fantastic time! We found all the staff very friendly and helpful. Our room was a pool view and on the 2nd floor which is actually the same floor as reception, it was very spacious with a good size bathroom. I was impressed it had a fridge and that we get bottled water every day. If I had to make one bad remark it would be that the electricity isn't powerful so it took me ages to dry my hair but it wasn't a huge issue. We ate at the Italian and Mexican twice each and loved them as well as the chinese and steak house once which were also good. The buffet can get repetitive but what do you expect during a 2 week stay, I enjoyed the pizza, pasta and fresh meat the most. Lunch is a good selection. I loved having fresh omelettes for breakfast! The bar staff were great and if you tip them at the start of the evening they look after you all night. We enjoyed some of the entertainment at the hotel in the evenings such as the Aqua ballet, Magician and Disney Fantasia show. There is always something happening be it day or night. We spent most of our time on the beach and never had an issue getting a lounger, similarly when going to the pool we always found somewhere. The beach is beautiful and for this reason much busier than the pool!

The hotel is walking distance to a shopping centre which is the biggest in Varaderro (although not that big!). We went into Varaderro town often by taxi which my partner loved as they were the old American cars like Cadillacs and cheap enough.

Guests were a real mix of families, couples and friends.

Can't knock Thomas Cook as the whole holiday was flawless from the plane to the excursions (Dolphin swim, Catamaran, 2 day and night in Havanna).

We loved Cuba and would highly recommend in!
xx
