“Great time...we'll worth the value.”
Reviewed 17 August 2014 via mobile

Our family (5 of us - 2 adults and our 3 children - between 16 and 21) travelled at the end of July - early August 2014. We hAd a wonderful time at Breezes Varadero. The staff were excellent - from the maids to the dining staff (Alexi /Lazirita) and Andy who made our breakfast everyday. Victor the manager was great (we had some dietary restrictions - and Victor made the kitchen staff aware of this) and was always around (even on his day off) and was always asking how our stay was and what if anything he van do. Even the entertainers were great and Yoesiel was great at casino night and karaoke. I was hoping to see him on our last night and did not have a chance to say goodbye.

The rooms were large and clean and we had no issues with bugs or anything of that sort. Even when the severe rains came one afternoon, I heard of peoples room getting wet however the people I spoke to either we're given new rooms immediately or were cleaned to their satisfaction.

Being a fan of seafood - I enjoyed the fish each day, however we had some picky eaters and they were quite satisfied with the food. The Cuban and Italian a la cartes were good as we'll and Vladimir was great and took care of all our needs.

We did the snorkelling with the guys at the beach - Kaller took us out to a spot that these guys know in the ocean where these fishes are and the kids had a blast snorkelling.

We did the Havana tour with Josel Vazquez. He has a website (ilovecuba.webs.com) and I found him on one of the earlier reviews on tripadvisor. The reviews on him were bang on. He is very professional, extremely knowledgeable, speaks English fluently (was an English and History) professor. He also takes professional photographs of you on the trip and provides you with a disk (which has a whole lot more). I would recommend Josel as he took us all over Havana (it was better than the guided tour we had when we went 5 years ago.

Fist off.. If I hear one more stuck- up person say "the food was terrible" I'm going to slap someone. It's Cuba!! Varadero is NOT KNOWN FOR FINE DINING!! The food is edtible, none of us ever get sick, and it gets the job done. If your looking for a vacation which entailes the best food your mouths can handle, don't choose Cuba, it's common knowledge. People goto Cuba for the beautiful beaches, culture, and experience.. Not the food.

This hotel is very nice. Obviously there will be some bugs.. This isent a hotel in downtown Manhattan.. It's a tropical resort. So basically expect a bug or two. I'm not talking about man-eating cockroaches here though.. Just some ants, flys etc.. The expected.

The beach is amazing and the staff was as helpful as any other Cuban resort iv stayed at. I go every single year in January. (By the way is a beautiful time to go)

Some things to note about Cuban hospitality though.. If you've never been to varadero before here's what to expect. Cubans that work there are all about the buck. Rightfully so, it's a poor country and obtaining a job in touristy varadero is like hitting the lottery for some of them. They always wants tips, and/or "stuff" to really help you with anything. But beware.. It's scam city all over the place. Fake Cuban cigars on the beach (that's a 100% fact from ANYONE that offers them to you on the beach) some will barley clean your room if you don't at least leave a couple pesos on the bed. But once again. This is normal for this type of place. I expected it. I'm a good tipper and have always been treated like royalty. But if your a cheap penny pitching all-inclusiver then you'll have some issues, and probably be one of the people complaining on trip advisor about "terrible service".

All in all, definitely consider this hotel if travelling to Cuba. I'd say it's aimed at a slightly younger crowd.. Say 21-30. So also don't expect "quite time" at 11:30pm.

Hope his helps

Room Tip: If you like more space and to be closer to the 24/hr bar/restaurant then I'd suggest requesting...

We stayed at the Breezes Varadero February 2014. Check in was quick and taken to our room immediately. Our room was on the main floor with a large patio overlooking a garden space and very close to the pool bar. The room is a little dated, but clean and everything worked well. We booked with Transat and had a complimentary bottle of rum, cigars, chips, pop and additional waters waiting in our room. The mini fridge is not restocked with pop or water, but you certainly can re fill your water bottle at any bar or restaurant. The cost of buying water at the hotel store was also reasonable. Large room with two patios and a small sitting area off the front entrance, which we used as our dressing room. The grounds, pool and beach are lovely and clean. There was no need for the towel game which we were pleased about. We thought the beach infront of Breezes was one the nicest on the strip. Staff at the bars, lounge and coffee cafe were friendly and fun. Oh the coffee cafe what a great place for a after dinner treat! The food at the buffet not so good, but the a la carte Italian was wonderful. The beach snack bar could use a bit more variety, wish the had the roast pig more than once a week. Love the size and layout of the resort, plus the many nice spots to chill out in. We had a wonderful time with our friends. The live music by the pool was enjoyed my all. We would return, just wish they toke more care with the variety in the buffet restaurant. I am not sure if getting fresh fruit and vegetables is a issue for Cuba???
Forgot to mention, Friday is lobster night held by the pool do not miss it.

Room Tip: Request and pay upgrade for garden view suite.

I would never recommend this place and can't understand how it has the rating it does. I was travelling with my fiance and another couple. We're in our late twenties and were looking a place to relax, but also with activities throughout the day and decent food and drinks. This is not what we got at Breezes. To begin with, we booked the trip together, and even though the resort was empty we were placed at opposite ends of the hotel. So, we waited while they made the adjustment, which you would think is common sense in the first place, especially considering there were almost no other guests.

The pool is an okay size, the loungers around it were also decent. The pool itself has been stripped of all tiles along the walls and the old glue is exposed everywhere. There are loose and broken tiles around the pool itself.

The bar staff were friendly but the drinks come in the tiniest cups you could imagine.

The beach is fine, the chairs are worn and stretched out making them uncomfortable to lie on. The beach also has a ton of tiny little burrs which are super painful to step on.

Now for the worst parts;

The room was disgusting! The bathroom was old, with rust on the mirror, the floor drain and dirt and grime crusted between the tiles, around the tub, and everywhere you looked. The towels felt rough and were stained and worn. The ceiling was cracked and broken. There were numerous cockroaches in the bathrooms in both rooms!

In the room itself the bed was hard and worn down to the springs, the pillows were completely flat. The sheets, and pillow cases were both stained with what looked like blood and black mold. There was also black mold on the couch. The headboard was also covered in black mold on both sides of the bed. There were also cockroaches in the room itself!

The buffet was not air conditioned, and was only enclosed with nets. There were numerous birds flying around, sitting in, and eating the food. The food itself was disgusting. There was literally the same food at every meal. Our first meal was dinner, and the same food was repeated again at breakfast. There was also food, like the fish, which was so dry and hard that it was obvious it was the same thing recooked at multiple meals and served repeatedly. A lack of variety of one thing, but trays of overcooked, reused, greasy food is not acceptable.

After dinner we participated in a game and a participant slipped during the game and fell on his back. The staff gathered around him without really offering any assistance that we could see and he was left lying on the stage with only his family, for at least 20 min, while all the lights were off and everyone was left awkwardly sitting around. We also encountered another guests who was staying for free because the last time he was there he slipped on some stairs.

When we originally went to the receptionist to see if we could change rooms we were told we would have to come back at 11. We asked if this was because people had to check out and she said no very rudely, they had plenty of rooms, we just needed to come back. We decided that we would could not stay, and changed hotels after 24 hrs at this place. We paid only $150 more to upgrade and it was well worth the money. DO NOT GO HERE.

My husband and I traveled to Breezes the week of June 6 to 13 of this year. It was a spur of a moment getaway and the price was ridiculously low. However, notwithstanding that, our expectations were still quite high as the resort has 4.5 stars.

Bipolar is the first word that comes to mind. The positives are very positive and the negatives are very negative. There is no middle ground.

Lets starts with the positives. The grounds, the rooms, the beach and half the service. Grounds meticulously kept with lots of palm trees and everything in full bloom. Room was a suite on the smaller side but more than enough room for the two of us. Oversize balcony with room for a lounger and 2 chairs. There is no ocean view to speak of as the trees are in the way. Fullsize bathroom and an extra sleeping room. Air conditioner in the bedroom area did not work but the one in the other room made up for it. Maid service was adequate as the only way I got the sheets changed was to take them off the bed myself and put them in the tub in the bathroom. (But again I had to remember the price we paid).

Ahh the beach. Absolutely the best in the area. Time of year meant no need to get up and save loungers or day beds, we had access to both. We spent all our time on the beach.

Other good points. Raoul in the Dunas Bar . A little bar off the bitten track and seems that not too many people know of this one. It has a Jacuzzi with a wonderful view of the ocean. Again every time we went there was no one there. Lezie in the lobby bar. Wonderful lady, my husband forgot his box of cigars as he was handing them out and she kept them for him until we came back. The lobby bar was our go to spot. Always able to find a place to sit. Nightly entertainment of the local flavour. And there was a chef in the evening to make us sandwiches and other small snacks on demand.

Now the negatives Food, the other half of the service and amenities.
The food. The absolutely worse food I have ever had. The only things eating the breakfast/lunch were the birds which were everywhere. There are nets over everything but that doesn’t seem to stop the birds from pecking on dishes on the tables or even getting their morning water from the running tap used to keep the ice cream scoop clean. I used my own spoon to get to my ice cream. Food was bland and tasteless. You would see the same food recycled through the day. The best places to get food was the beach grill (Carlos) or the lobby bar in the evening. The best meal we had was offsite at a local place in town.
Tried both of the a la carte restaurants. Both dismal. Mohitos is only available 2 nights during the week and Martinos the other 5. Served Pedro at Mohitos and Paul at Martinos. He was the same person. The best part of both meals. We even gave away our 3rd reservation to a couple we meant on the beach. Decided to try the buffet instead. Still bad.

Now service. The men at the pool bar refused to make daiquiris with a blender. Some sort of premade concoction (like a slurpy machine). No effort required. If you wanted a decent daiquiri you had to go all the way to the lobby bar. So we opted for a different drink. No extra walking required.

Amenities. Dirty dirty dirty Jacuzzi in the pool area. Wasn’t cleaned once when we were there. No shade umbrellas in the pool area. Very retro look with all the loungers lined up like little soldiers with no spacing between them. Hard to imagine how crowded that would be in the peak season. Jacuzzi in the beach bar was a little bit more clean (you could actually see the bottom) but there was still lots of sand in it.

Last point and really the most important. Upon arrival guests receive one bottle of water. You don’t get another one. You can get this one bottle of water refilled from the tap at any of the bars. First time ever that we were told we could drink the local water. Every morning my husband and I were making regular visits to the porcelain goddess. And talking with other guests we were not the only ones.

If all you want in a holiday is a beach with drinks and a clean room, this is it, but bring your own brita and snacks from home. This is a nice 3 star resort at best.

Room Tip: Pavillion I 2nd floor facing ocean. Close to the pool, beach and buffet without being too close

We booked our very first all inclusive vacation to Breezes, Varadero through Ryan at the Flight Centre, Masonville location in London, ON.

This was absolutely the best vacation from start to finish. Ryan was professional and knowledgeable, with our booking and we are looking forward to meeting with hm again to plan our next vacation.

We just loved the resort - best of all the staff! Can't wait to go back and meet everyone again - like a big family!
The rooms were wonderful - lots of space and very clean.
Food was great - an abundance of everything

Love the Beach - and that blue sky over turquoise water - the best!!!

Took two day trips, one to Havanna and one to Cardenas - again very much enjoyed. Booked thru the rep at the resort - again very well done.

My partner and I have been to Cuba 7 times and after discovering all the eastern and central part of the Island, we went to Varadero and we stayed 3 times at the Breezes. What a wonderful resort and location,it seems to be in a botanical garden , rooms are big and clean, the beach is beautiful! But what makes it special is the people, the Cuban people, which are lovely! At breezes everyone is so friendly and we like to give a special thanks to Yordy our wonderful ermana from the Holiday place always so helpful and with a contagious smile and then Lizbeth, Eduardo and the Executive chef Reynold. You guys always make our stay very special this is why we will go back in August. We can't wait!!! Grazie mille from the crazy Italians Barbara & Roberto
