For the price, this was a pretty good deal. While the rooms in the coral section that my buddy and I had booked, reassembled a 2 star, the consistent 3.5-4 star service and amenities with coffee bars, smoothie bars, booze bars, mohito station, buffets, beaches, central location and on site activities more than made up for basic rooms. The resort is just a $5 cab ride from varadero....1 cabbie took $2, and a 1 $6/7...5 was high, but common. Good variety and prices of souvenirs at local stands between beach and hotel. Awesome coffees. Friendly tourists from around the world.

Lots of bars in varadero...Beatles bar for live music, Havana club and calle 62....lots of music and fun times.

4 of us rented a '57 Chevy with driver to Havana...costed $80, 1-way. Took about 2.25 hours.

Found a really nice casa particular apartment in Havana, across the street from the malecon...4 bedrooms, prices range up to $35 per room...awesome views of open ocean...central to Prado & Malecon. Owner Anida only speaks Spanish, and is very easy to get along with. Address is 59 Malecon... She has a buzzer at the doorway...locals are quite friendly in the area... I Highly recommend her apartments. Apartments include air conditioning, but these weren't needed in early December.

Bus back to varadero costed just $10...bus station is just across the street from the zoo. Zoo is about a $5 cab ride from the restaurants (some with AC) at calle 26 / 23 near the huge colon cemetery...the cemetery is one of the stops on the $5 hop-on-hop-off bus tour. There are 2 bus tour loops.

Scooter rentals from out front of coral hotel cost $20 for 4 hours...quite reasonable.

Calls back to canada are pricy from hotel...$2.50/minute. No wifi at hotel. Found wifi at $4/15 minutes at hotel Saratoga business centre on 2nd floor next to lounge. Slow speed wifi.

Overall, we had a fun vacation and I do recommend sol sirenas. If you want 4.5 star, pay the extra $30 / day for "cosmonaut" for swankier rooms and deluxe room service.

I got the impression that the Sol group knows what they are doing and well manages his property. I would stay here again, if I could get a deal again of under $1,000 all in from Vancouver.

6th visit to Cuba and worst resort for cleanliness. No toilet paper, no soap, no paper towel or means to dry hands in the public washroom areas around the resort. Public washrooms were not cleaned or tended to especially by the beach club where you get your towels. Many of the washrooms did not have doors or toilets as they were off or broken. Called and requested they at least get toilet paper etc to the washrooms but over the 2 weeks this was impossible for them to do for some reason. Bring your own supplies if you want to use a washroom not in your room. Public washrooms were seldom cleaned, the mens washroom by the beach was not cleaned for two days after someone had defecated all over the washroom. It was so dirty that guys were using the trees along the beach to go to the washroom as it was preferable to the dirty disgusting washrooms around the resort which is sad! We heard many people commenting on the sad state of affairs of the washrooms around the resort so we were not the only people to experience this. Food was fine as we had no great expectations being our 6th visit to Cuba. Frequently food was cold so if you like hot food you may not be so happy. Variety was o.k. for Cuba. Snack bar staff were friendly on the Coral side. I had 3 terrible experiences with staff grabbing cutlery from my plate because I was going out of their section which was rude! I have never experienced this type of behavior before. If you did not sit in their area they would grab the utensils right off your plate! You can not take anything out of the restaurant to sit with your friends if they are eating outside or you will be seriously yelled at by the staff. There does not seem to be any managers for each area as in other resorts so no one to oversee that things are getting done. Garbage around the resort is not picked up on a regular basis. I took photos of the garbage that sat on the posts just before you get to the beach bar. A dirty diaper sat on the post for 8 of our 14 days! We gave been to countless resorts and have never before been to one where the garbage is not picked up on a daily basis. There does not seem to be anyone responsible for garbage pick up at this resort. Tourists are bad and should be ashamed of themselves for leaving their garbage behind. However someone still needs to clean up if any is left behind as this just makes those that leave their trash behind more inclined to leave more behind. So if you are looking for a clean resort this is probably not the best choice. Our room was clean and quiet although we did move after our first night since our patio door did not close or lock and the wind was howling through the room. The beach was beautiful, plenty of chairs and shade, great for walking. Resort central for the town and golfing so there were some positive things to be said. It could be a nice resort if attention were paid to keeping the place clean and ensuring public washrooms were tended to on a regular basis to make sure people had what they needed for personal hygine when using the washroom. Also need to tend to the cleanliness of the buffet areas where the food is being served. In the buffet the line ups are long as they wait for each person to say for ex. how many crepes they want instead of just putting them on while the line is long and slowing down on production once the line shortens. The wait times would be less. Same goes for the grilling of meat at supper. With a bit of thinking on the part of the staff and observation the food line ups would be shorter faster and people happier as their wait times would be significantly less. Nov 25 to Dec 9 2013 was our stay at this resort. Unfortunately it left a very impression of Cuba and we after 6 time will be looking for a different destination to enjoy the sun and beach.

Room Tip: Corner rooms have less noise as you only have one neighbor to deal with if you get a noisy neighbor.

Just came back from Varadero for my 8th time,i always stay at the SolSirenas coral I arrived on Nov. 16th and left on Dec 7th 2013, and stayed in room 7272 on the Sirenas side. The staff just can't seem to do enough for you. Ivon at the check in was awsome, as well as every one there. I don't remember their names, but their was not one that didn't make me feel at home. Also Patricia on the Coral side was very special. She always had a beautiful smile, and always took time to say hello, and ask how your day was going. I hope you tell her what a caring person she is. Also on the Sirenas side in the snack bar, the staff was just wonderful, and they all made sure i was well taken care of. Being there 8 times they were very special to me, as well as i being special to them. I wrote their names down before i left. Yanetsy, Osmel, Humberto, Anaitae, Yadira, Yanivia. I'm sure i left someone out, but everyone at the snack bar was awsome, so it would be nice if you let them know, how special they were. In customer service Ricardo Nadal and the other staff made sure everything in my room was 100%. The buffet was very good, with lots of variety, and the breakfast omelettes were excellent. Very good and friendly staff. Maybe the only negative part of the buffet, was to wait in line for dinner, as the coral side was closed for dinner. But the wait wasn't long at all, and you just had to maybe take a beer, or some cocktail, and have a cool one while you wait in line. The beach was awsome, and in the 22 days it only rained twice. Will be going back for my 9th time, sometime in 2014, and sure looking forward to it. So i hope you mention to the staff, especially Ivon at the front desk, the staff at the snack bar on the Sirenas side, and Patricia on the Coral side. Go to Cuba, have a great time, treat the staff with respect, and you will have a great holiday. Paul

Room Tip: The rooms on the Sirena side are less noisy, and the Coral side is more to party till midnight

Stayed On November 2012 December 1th - 8th. Its not a bad resort even though I probably had one of the worst rooms in the whole place over on the Sirenis side in the block buidling on the beach. Location sucks in terms of if you like to go downtown and experience things. Constant taxi and travel arrangements gets annoying. Try a resort closer downtown its probably cleaner as well as I found this one in comparison to others to lack bathrooms outside of the actual rooms and alot of them usually smelled pretty bad most of the time. I do have to say the main bar on the Sirenis side is a great place to just sit and be entertained. Food Was Excellent you can double back on both buffet's and they don't care how many a la cartes or what a la cartes you schedule with them either. lol ;)

Room Tip: Don't take a room along the main block facing the path going down to the beach on the Sol Sireni...

Check in went quickly as we got a taxi to take us so we could beat the line that comes with getting the bus to the resort. We stayed on the Coral side which was more lively than Sirena side. The elevator did not work in our room so we had to take climb 60 some steps to our room that got old after the first couple of days.
Rooms were clean. Hot water was hit or miss.
Food was typical of Cuba, we found the Buffet on the Sirena side had smaller lines.
The beach was amazing, the pools were pretty good and had some activities going on.
Evening entertainment was good.
The staff all over the resort were top notch and always smiling. i enjoyed speaking with Fernando at the front door who knew alot about the area and we chatted about the old cars. This resort is really what you want to make of it, there was people who wanted to party and there was people who wanted to relax. The staff at the snack bar after midnight were very willing to serve up a snack before bed.
The grounds were well kept, the bars were well stocked and the beach was top notch, what else could you ask for in a hotel?

Room Tip: make sure you the elevator is working in your building while you are checking in

Went for our honeymoon in 2009, first vacation in at least 10 years. Beautiful landscape and resort. The beach is lush, clean and amazing. The food was good, nothing great but you're not going to go hungry. We had a room over the lobby bar and became super busy and noisy at night, talked to the front desk and we're very helpful. Moved us to a suite in the Coral section....absolutely brilliant.....loved it....definitely recommend a suite.....machine came around each morning and smoked for bugs so very few were ever around.
Recommend this resort to anyone!!!

Room Tip: Any suite!!!
