It is very nice place with special atmosphere. It is a very special home built by the owner to suit his lifestyle whilst in Cuba. I have enjoyed amazing sun-set together with beautiful company... and of course perfect Mojito. The bartender dispense to us very good attention. It is truly an exceptional experience.

Went with friends to have dinner here. Food was the best that I'd had whilst in Cuba. Too many mossies though! Lobster salad was very good, veal medallions just melted in your mouth! All round a good place to eat, in a nice mansion with a interesting back story ( DuPont, Castro etc)

we heard such good things about this place, that even though we had an all inclusive hotel a few minuets away!
We came here for just an hour, having a cocktail in the bar with the most amazing view of the sea -
was beautiful
The bar itself was beautiful too - really old fashioned.
A great place to visit

If you go to the bar make sure donot ask for MOJITO. The bartender does not how to prepare it. I sugested him to find the recipe for preparing this . But he does not admit the Mojito was bad. He should be teach how to prepare beverages and how to listen sugerences. All people around the world know the mojito is a popular drink in cuba, but he confuses people with the way he prepares it. He rsponded to me that he does not tritures the yerba buena because it have a bad flavor. Helloooooooooo people drink mojitos to taste that flavor. I visited the bar on may 28 2014.
Nice person but he does not listen customers.

After nine holes of golf we stumbled upon this place and booked in for dinner and drinks. We sat outside on the cliff and watched the sun set which was magical. Just before dinner we took the skinny staircase up to the top floor which lead to the best stocked bar in Varadero. Whilst the cocktails were less than impressive, the wine list spoke for itself and the three course dinner we indulged upon afterwards was certainly a highlight for our Varadero trip. Foie Gras on the entree, a lobster bisque just before the main event and then a huge lobster for mains. All prepared excellently. One of our party had the salmon which was over cooked and disappointing, and another the beef mignon which was good. Overall, this place has enough to impress from Cuba standpoint.

We stayed at this hotel at the end of a two week trip through Cuba. Until then we had stayed mostly at Casa Particulares so walking into this place was quite the eye opener. It used to be the mansion of an early 20th century magnate, built on a rocky precipice overlooking the rather stunning looking ocean. The interior is like a museum with marble, antique furniture, statues and the most ancient elevator I have ever been in. There are even velvet ropes marking off the guest-only areas. It felt almost wrong walking through the place in a bathing suit and flip-flops skipping the ropes and passing stern looking portrait paintings. The room we stayed in was suitably massive with two king sized beds, a walk-in closet and a bathroom the size of my living room at home. You then step out onto the balcony to behold the crystal blue ocean in all its glory and truly feel like you did something right!
Now there is the tiniest bit of a rough edge to the place. The bathroom faucets didn't quite stop dripping, some of the furnishings looked a bit tired and the food was the worst part of the experience. Breakfast and dinner are included, the restaurant tried very hard but didn't manage to meet our expectations after eating in many other places. In fact we actually got sick after eating there which was ironic since we ate pretty much anything during the two week preceding and were fine.
The other thing we didn't expect was the lack of direct beach access & beach chairs. The place itself is on a rocky cliff, there is a golf course on one side (included in the cost of staying) and a pristine white sand beach on the other with a lot of chairs and umbrellas. After we installed ourselves onto some of these chairs we were told by a security guard that these didn't belong to the Xanadu and our 10 year old wasn't welcome since we had wandered onto the private beach of an adults-only resort. That put a bit of a damper on things, we packed up and settled on the little strip of beach not claimed by the resort next door. We quickly forgot about this however, the beach and water are absolutely amazing. The water is warm and perfectly clear, we spent many hours frolicking, then retreating to our mansion :-)
Definitely worth a visit. The place is also used by Cubans as a venue for weddings and other special occasions. We witnessed two couples with elaborate retinues being photographed which was interesting to witness. You are also closely observed by the local lizard and bird population while having breakfast, much to the delight of our son.

This was a fitting end to our Cuban journey and was worth the splurge.
