an honest review from a mom.... we stayed 5 days and had little to no problems at all. the price was right for a 5 star in june/july so we thought we would check it out. we went with our 8 yr old daughter and she had a blast. staff was very friendly and waiting for us upon arrival. we were originally placed in a room by our agent but when we got there, the staff recommended that we change blocks to be closer to the fun! IF you are travelling with kids, REQUEST BUILDING 11! its right outside the pool area! the nightly entertainment was the best we had ever seen! the animation crew had many activities and games planned throughout the day and were good at getting everyone involved. beach was nice but didn't spend too much time there. large selection if food...good for picky eaters!!! the resort was vey large....ask questions upon arrival so you stay near the amenities that are important to you. not close to town. one thing i would recommend, i thought "who needs a watch on vacation" ..... BRING ONE as there are no clocks in the rooms!!! I would return to this resort!

Room Tip: as already stated, building 11 if you have kids (pool view, first floor)

First time visiting Cuba with friends (in our twenties). Of course, we expected a crazy party atmosphere, and I will admit that we were a little disappointed at how reserved the first couple of days were. It seems that in the summer Cubans take advantage of the lower rates and flee to the beaches (this is not a problem in itself, we were just not expecting it). We expected to be surrounded by Canadians, which is not the case for the summer months (so take that into account you party animals). I must say, however, that the wide range of nationalities and friendly faces made it an extraordinary experience. The 24/7 lobby bar is a great place to meet people from across the world and develop a group of friends that you can enjoy your vacation with (you are going to be quite bored if you just hang with your own party).

The food is OKAY, but as it is often said, Cuba is not the place you should be going to experience amazing food. The resort grounds are spacious and clean, and the staff are extremely welcoming. The pools were too busy, so we tended to spend our days by the beach playing volleyball and other activities that are put on by the activities staff. I really encourage you to do the same; after all, you can go to the pool in Canada anytime.

Although reserved at times, the atmosphere encourages partying. The drinks are delicious and extremely strong, so that shouldn't be a problem, and the on-site disco is pretty awesome if you can just get all the drunks from the lobby to follow you there.

If you are like me, a twenty something professional looking for a week to relive the college benders with the buddies, you will be a little disappointed at first (especially during the summer). But give it time and meet people - there is plenty of partying to be had at this classy joint.

Just returned from out second stay at Blau Marina. We stayed 10-28 June with two children 4 and 10 years old. Our stay in 2013 was incredible and that's why we chose to return to this resort. There has been many changes to the resort in the last year, most very positive. We arrived on Wednesday and by Friday the resort had filled right up. Saturday morning another 700 plus more visitors arrived. We enjoyed the serenity of the resort last year, big reason why we returned, it was anything but serine on the weekends. We learned from staff that that is what the weekends will be like. We used the serenity pool briefly but there were kids diving from the sides into the pool. We tried enjoying the party pool with our kids but it was near impossible for them to get on the waterslide. Visitors going down in trains of 4-6 people, pushing past the the less aggressive children, not waiting till slide is clear at bottom, etc, very unsafe. Getting drinks was difficult, when you finally got close enough to give your order someone behind would yell their order in Spanish and usually get served first. They'd order piles of food literally, so the orders would take much longer. Forget buffet etiquette on weekends, there isn't any. Being off season we expected some services closed but if they opened everything to accommodate the weekend visitors the lines and stress on the staff would have been minimal I think. The weather was amazing, and there were mosquitoes and sand flea's but we went prepared. The a la cartes were great, better than last year. We stayed in block 11 this year and 12 last year and both were great, close to everything. All things considered our trip was great, and the resort gets better every visit. We decided to do our excursions on weekends and a la cartes to get out of the weekend hustle and bustle. During the week the resort was still busy but pleasant. Maybe we need to be more aggressive travelers to handle the weekends at Blau Marina. I'd recommend this resort but I'd be sure to give our honest assessment to you first so you can decide if you'll enjoy your stay.

Dear Pam,
We want to thank you again for having chosen our hotel for your holiday and we very much value your opinions.
It is true that during your stay the hotel has experienced a considerable increase in occupancy during weekends, low season this year has been particularly high in the local market and sometimes has caused lines and crowds at some points of service.
We have taken steps to improve our services and we trust that you will be coming to visit us again next year.
Thank you for your confidence.
Best regards.

We booked two rooms, both ended up facing away from the beach. On the second day I did try to change at least one of them and the the resort Manager Jose (who you really do see every where :) saw to it promptly.
The food was okay, the grounds beautiful....there was so much space to spread out and beach was spectacular.
Thanks to all the wonderful friendly staff who made our stay so memorable we will be back next year with an even bigger crowd :)
A big thanks to Ileana (i hope you enjoy your trip), Jose the Manager, Jose at the restaurant...there are a few others, but i cant remember all their names.

It was my first time visiting Cuba and I had been warned about the food and accommodations - so I was prepared not to be wowed. And yes, the food was tasteless, but I was full each day. Have the pasta and the eggs - and you'll be good.
The service was ok - nothing special to write about. But as usual, if you take care of the server they are nice to you. If you don't...they move on.
The actual beach was nice. I liked that you could go all around. The activities were fun too.
The evening show wasn't exciting either.
It's located near the end of varadaro, so if you''re looking to go into town, you're at the end of the line. Which is nice during the day because you get to see the whole area. But when it's dark it's just a long ride.
Overall, a fun time on the resort. Not sure I'd go back though.

Room Tip: Stay by the main pool or beach facing if you want to be near the action. Pick the other side if you...

This hotel was very nice. A little run down in places, but most things are. The staff was fantastic, and the food was very good. It had a lot of taste to it and you could always find something "western" to eat. Make sure to explore the resort, as there are 3 pools, including a one further up the resort that is hardly used.

The highlight of this resort is the beach. While most of the resorts were packed in, this resort had at least a km of beach. There were more then enough chairs out, and you had multiple locations where you could sit depending on if you were looking for quite or busy.

The other great part of this resort was the performances. The dancers were amazing. It was packed every night.

Our room was right across from the construction, which did make things loud, but made sure we were up enjoying the resort.

Room Tip: You can ask for a room either in the quieter part of the resort, or near the attractions. If you ask...

Just came back arms and legs full of insect bites . The hotel gives no warning. I paid more expecting 5 stars, but the hotel is barely 3 stars, buffet is ok. But the booked restaurants are extremely poor and best avoided. The beach is good but full of sand flees basically your flesh will be eaten up. One of the reasons I picked this hotel is to do wind surfing . But they have only one. There is only wing around 4pm but they stop proving windsurfing at that time. So I managed to use it only once in a week.

The shows are good but the hall is very poor, sound quality very poor basically
changes the music to noise, and you have to fight huge number of mosquitos, so make sure to wear long sleeve and trousers in the hot weather.

Once there there is nothing
else to do, unless you like to use their overprices
tours. The least costs about 80 pounds per person to visit a cave.

Internet only available in the reception and cost 5 dollars per hour.
