“Another nice vacation at the Blau”
Reviewed 6 June 2014

It is a year late but I just came back from Cayo Coco and realized that I have forgotten to write about last year vacation at the Blau in Varadero.

Last June (2013) was my second trip at the Blau in 2 years and again WOW, very happy.
Their is 3 Blau hotels, you want to go to the Blau Varadero (looks like a pyramid).

IMPORTANT note: The Blau has 12 floors. soon as you are on the 3rd floor and above whatever side of the hotel that you are you will see the SEA. Remember that Varadero is a peninsula of about 1-2 km wide so the ocean is on both sides. SO if they offer you an ocean side room for an extra $100 per person (so $200/ couple) you are waisting your money.

When I went with my friends 3 1/2 years ago they pay for it to realize that I was looking at the ocean too. IMPORTANT again, my room was bigger than theirs also..

First of all for the ones that do not know anything about this hotel, it is fairly new compare to others and very well upkept. Yes, compare to others it looks new.

Food: it is great either way at the buffet, a la carte or either at the beach. Lots of choices and always hot. I have no complaints about the food at all.

Rooms: Again looks fairly new and modern, beds, pillows very comfi. Clean linen and bathroom.

Beach: Very nice, very long, you can walk for hours. Plenty of Palapas and chairs. Maybe not enough in the high seasons that is pretty well the same for each hotels.

Excursions: Catamaran is always pleasant and worted. Visit to Havana is a must. the visit of Matansas and the cavern is also very interesting mainly for history bufs.

The town of Varadero is easy to get to with the double decker bus, you pay 5 Pesos and keep your pass and it is valid for the full day. On the peninsula their is two other places to see caverns with bats flying around you. I went and enjoy both places. In Varadero their is all kinds of things to see. Plenty of restaurants, the food is good and it is cheap. Visit the JOSONE park, very nice with 2 bars and 3 restaurants and 1 pool and bar.

110 volts available. Hotel is lest then 1/2 hr from the airport. Exchanging money at the hotel is very easy.

Tipping is more and more commun so I give them an average of 50-60 Pesos per week of stay to the various bartenders and restaurant staffs. I do not give it each time but on regular basis. And yes it is true that they will remember you bettem when you tip them, (you get a better service).

Keep an eye on your beach towel or it might cost you up to $20.

I have nothing negative to say about the Hotel or my stay.

I will go back for sure it is #3 out of 60 and it is a 4 stars hotel.

Thank You to the Staff.

Room Tip: The Blau has 12 floors. soon as you are on the 3rd floor and above whatever side of the hotel that...

Very good hotel with good rooms and where SERVICE is written in capitals.
Good spacious swimmingpool area, at a lovely guarded beach and full with entertainment during the whole day from aquajogging and waterpolo to archery.
Nice spa, sauna and well-equiped gym also available free of charge.
Good food in various styles and a well made cocktail to complete it all (ofcourse you have to try the Mojito).
At night always nice performed shows from magic to dance and live music at the cocktailbar and pianobar.
a place to enjoy and highly recommended

Room Tip: Rooms at the front have balcony which are in the shade as from the afternoon which is lovely when r...

Hi I am reviewing this holiday a little late, went last year 18th July for 2 weeks, and enjoyed every minute of it!! We are a family with a 13 yr old boy and 15 yr old girl and we all absoluetly oved it. The beach is the most amazing sight, the water is sooo warm like a bath and calm, I am a non swimmer and went in it all day every day, as felt so safe, so shallow. The hotel was amazing with gorgeous food, and lovely friendly staff. The entertainment was great too. Weather was perfect for the first 10/11 days pure sunshine, but did get a little rainy towards the end, with a few thunderstorms at night the last few days, but it is rainy season so was expected but didnt spoil anything. Plenty to do, only thing that was missing was a water slide or swim up bar!!. Would go back in a heartbeat.

We stayed here for 11 nights. I can't think of one single negative thing to say about it!! The food was good, and there was a lot of choice. There is a chef called Yoel (sorry if i misspelt your name) who cooks the most amazing Paella (on the beach) that I have ever tasted!! The animation team were all really friendly. The dancers put on really good shows every night. The bar staff were sometimes making two or three drinks at once. The rooms were large and clean. I spoke to a few people who had stayed in various hotels in Varadero who said that this hotel was by far the best on the strip. The pool spacious and clean, the beach always had available huts to sit under. The rooms were really quiet- I don't think I heard one of the other people in the adjacent rooms.
A really good hotel with wonderful staff.

Room Tip: Choose one on the opposite side of the pool if you want a really good nights sleep.

After an absence of 30 years !! yes 30 years, I returned to Cuba with my 13 yr Old daughter for her birthday celebrations.Would it have changed?? well yes but impossibly for the better. The Blau was wondeful from the white sand beach, still unspoilt to the fantastic restaurants and lobby bar downswept with creepers where humming birds played.Afternoon tea and homemade biscuits at 4pm were a delight. The Salsa class run by Jose Michelle a pleasure, my daughter salsaed across the stage within 3 days.!!
We swam with dolphins , caught a catamaran to a desert island for a lobster BBQ, snorkelled coral beach and visited a freshwater cave.
Thank-you blau and CUBA we will return soon!!

Room Tip: either side of the hotel is good as they all have ocean views

Check in was extremely slow. Many staff members came and went yet no one stopped to assist with the checkin. I don't harp on the rooms too often in the Caribbean as I tend to not spend too much time in them other then to shower and sleep. The beds are terrible, soft and lumpy mattress made for sleepless nights. Lighting in the washroom was very dim which made grooming very difficult. Property was nice. Good sized pool with plenty of lounging area. Short walk to the beach which was nice, soft sand and warm water. Staff was OK. The food was terrible! Grilled fish and Chicken brochettes tasted like they had gone bad, pasta was very bland, lived on bread and fried rice.

We have just returned from our second visit to this hotel. Having visited it last year, we were so impressed with it that we immediately booked again for this year, even though we don't usually do that. Having done so, one always wonders whether it will be as good the second time around. We found however that it was!!
The hotel has a lovely pool, with lovely grassed gardens, plus direct access to a lovely beach and the sea, all of which is kept in pristine condition. There are always plenty of sun loungers in all three.
The rooms are spacious and well appointed. Ours was on the 9th floor with a great view over the tennis courts, gardens and pool. It had two queen sized beds and still enough room for a table and two comfortable chairs, with plenty of wardrobe space, a good sized bathroom, and a fridge stocked with water and beer.
All inclusive is great although sometimes the food may be a little 'samey' each night. Not so with the Blau. The food is excellent with great variety of both hot and cold food. Each evening, there are chefs serving separate carved meats, plus a freshly made pizza and pasta bar. At breakfast, the selection is just as good with freshly made omelettes and eggs cooked to order, plus freshly made smoothies in addition to everything else.
The bars are spacious with an a top class variety of drinks and cocktails, with plenty of seating, and good music and singers each evening. There is also a spacious piano bar for quiet conversation.
The entertainment is great, provided by a superb entertainment team. There is a full range of daytime activities around the pool and in the gardens, ranging from aquarobics in the pool, to tennis, to archery and even croquet, if you want a break from sunbathing!
In the evening, the resident dancers put on full costume shows which are excellent, after the quiz and a live band and dancing, varied by a magic show and themed evenings. There are also superb aqua shows in the pool to add to the entertainment.
Add to all this the lovely staff. Everyone we came into contact with was always so friendly and helpful, and the superb staff help to make this a lovely holiday experience.
Over all of this is the manager, who keeps tabs on everything. He is a hands on person, and is always around to see that his staff are keeping clients happy with the service. He is always easy to talk to, and tries to ensure that any suggestions or minor problems are actioned quickly.
We can thoroughly recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to have a lovely, all inclusive holiday in Cuba at a great hotel with everything going for it.
