I have been to this down to earth place on a high traffic road many times. I love the food, nothing fancy but with great taste and very reasonably priced.
9 of the 10 experiences here are good, therefore it is such a pity that when you have a rare complaint this is dealt with very poorly. The Ceasar salad that I ordered last week was terrible, with a strange stressing and lacking some basic ingredients of a Ceasar salad. I told the waiter who did not show any interest in my complaint and just told me 'well, yes, we have changed the menu'.
Again, I hardly complain but when I have a valid complaint I would like to be dealt with as a valued customer.
Further, De Tropen is another a restaurant that does not comply with the law by adding 9% sales tax on printed prices (law: these prices are to be inclusive of sales tax). Just deal with by not leaving any tip and telling your waiter that you consider the illegal 9% surcharge being the tip.
Nevertheless, I can recommend de Tropen for some good, reasonably priced food in a down to earth ambience.
