We were lucky to be in the hotel as support for the artists. Good rooms, nice pool, the lady at the breakfast entrance greeted us by name! Central to everything, middle of town and yet a nice "beach" area.

We had an extremely enjoyable stay at this hotl. We were happy with our room but even happier when we were upgraded to a suite, which was more like an apartment. The view from our balcony was stunning. The suite was decorated beautifully. It even had gorgeous art glass scattered around. The bathrooms were luxurious, the infinity pool was fun, and the hotel was located in an excellent spot for walking. I highly recommend this hotel

Room Tip: Try to upgrade to a suite

After staying at the Marriott, the Renaissance was a definite upgrade. The hotel is very modern, like a W without all of the loud music. The location is great as it puts you near the Queen Emma Bridge and shops. I stayed here on the second leg of a trip to Curacao just so I'd be able to explore downtown and it served its purpose.

The shops are a nice touch for those that don't want to go off property. You can find any souvenir you're looking for, but if you venture out, you can find them at better prices.

Tip: Meals here can be pricy, as they are everywhere on the island, but room service is actually cheaper than eating in the restaurants at the hotel. Also, the Starbucks on the second floor has decent sandwiches and salads at very reasonable prices, they were the cheapest I saw during my entire stay.

Room Tip: If you're going to pay for a view, don't bother with an island view, there's not much to...

Returned to the Renaissance April 21-27 after a visit last year and was not disappointed. Great location, great room, upgraded to a 4th floor Ocean View, makes a big difference if you like to chill on the balcony to take pictures of the sunrise etc. The food was ok, however, after two mornings of $27 breakfast buffets, I switched to the in house Starbucks and was just fine. Talk with local cab drivers to get great beach reviews and restaurant choices. The onsite Infinity Pool was still amazing and I spent lots of time there. There was always entertainment in the lobby and at the nearby Rift Ft. Had so a great time that I booked a Christmas trip, blessed to return so soon. Dine at the Wine Cellar, outstanding small French restaurant, Rack of Lamb is worth writing a poem about. Enjoy!

Room Tip: Ocean View, ask for 4th floor, it costs an addition $45 per day, well worth it.

Pros: the hotel is within walking distance all of the Willemstad attractions, including Queen Emma Pontoon Bridge, local shops, restaurants in Punda and Fort Riff. Also, the beach/infinity pool on the resort and a full service Starbucks in the hotel are highlights and the room rate is reasonable. I was also surprised by the quality of stores on the resort but they seem to be closed during most of the stay (Sat- Tues).

Cons: The rooms had a smell to them that cheaped the experience in the room. The overall guest experience felt very resort-ish, and not the boutique-ish lifestyle brand feel that Renaissance is suppose to provide. To further take away from the experience, the rooms do not have WiFi reception; internet is only available in the Starbucks and lobby. Furthermore, the hotel also lacks late night room service, a gift shop to purchase basic sundries, or a vent fan in the guest bathroom (not a big deal until it's missing from your room).

Overall, it's probably your best bet when looking at branded hotels on the island if you want to be in walking distance to Willemstad, avoid a lot of children and get a decent value for your money. Don't expect the typical Rennaisance experience here.

We stayed at Renaissance from 17th to 21st Aug 2013. The best thing about the hotel is its location. Its at a walking distance from the downtown and the Rif fort is located within the hotel premises. Even though there is no natural beach in its proximity, the salt water infinity pool and beach more than makes up for it.
About the staff and the island residents in general, they are all very friendly. There is no issue of safety.
The island as such is a bit expensive, which is expected as tourism is one of their main sources of income.
The help desk helped us arrange for a tour of the island. We took the Island trip. The driver cum guide, Robert, was cool. This tour covers the whole Island both the East and the west.
People go here to relax. So, expect a bit of lassitude in services as well. The usual wait time in resturants after you place your order is 30-45 mins.
But we throughy enjoyed our trip. We had gone there to relax. And relax we did.

Just came back from my vacation in Curacao and stayed at the renaissance, this is a very nice hotel and location although its a bit expensive the food and the service was great. The hotel employees were all friendly. I would recommend this hotel to anyone who is considering visiting Curacao. The island is beautiful:)
