great hotel. very nicely appointed rooms. We had an ocean view room on the 3rd floor. However even being so high they were palm trees obstructing some of the view, but that's not the hotel's fault.
Checkin was a little slow, we arrived early at 9am and got our room at 4pm.
Very convenient starbucks right by the pool.
We had lunch a couple of times at the pool, and the food was good.
The man-made beach was nice too and very easy to get chairs.
The location of the hotel was great with lots of restaurants right in the fort Riff area and across the bridge.
Now here are some of my issues with the hotel:
- smoke from the casino into the main lobby, this would be very easy to remediate, just build a glass door at the entrance of the casino to the lobby and you would block that nasty smell.
- i found that the lobby, casino and stairs and all the common areas of the hotel were kept way to cool. I checked and they had they AC set at 19C. Now if this was a business hotel and you're walking around in a suit I would understand, but most people in this hotel are tourists and when walking back from the pool/beach with a wet bathing suit it wasn't pleasant at all. They should really crank up the temperature by a few degrees.
- although the man-made beach was very nice, after visiting some of the real beaches in curacao, you just can't compare. But nothing that the hotel can do about this. they still built a very nice beach/pool area.
As for curacao overall, i loved the island and i have visited many islands in the caribbean. This is definitely one of my favorite island.

Dear Vie_voyage,

Thank you for taking the time to write on TripAdvisor about your recent vacation.

We loved reading your review, it gives very well balanced and realistic comments about our property. Your feedback regarding the temperature and smoke has been discussed with the concerning Managers. It certainly depends on what you are looking for, a real beach is not to be found in the city center of Curacao and luckily we pull it of with our unique Infinity beach!

It is an absolute pleasure to see that you have enjoyed the Island and the Resort. We hope to welcome you back soon!

The public areas including the infinity pool beach were great, The standard guest room was average at best, The staff was one of the friendliest and most helpful I have experienced in some time and improved my overall experience at the resort. Also the location was perfect. Close to many restaurants and shopping in the city and on the resort site,

First of all we are sorry to hear you have been relocated to our hotel due to a fully booked hotel. Luckily we were able to accommodate and delight you! Thank you for sharing that with us!

Thank you for remembering Jennefer, we are very blessed to have her on our team and we will definitely share this great comment with her! To watch the cruise ships coming in and out remains very intriguing to watch every single time!

It is absolutely lovely to hear you had a small adventure every time you got out of the hotel to explore! If you are ready for your next adventure, we will be here.

Usually we book our trips two months ahead. This time, on a lark, we booked this trip only one week in advance. Experience has shown that there is typically less accommodations available and higher costs with last minute reservations. To our surprise we found a great deal that equaled in savings to about one night of hotel accommodation. For such a great price we also received the most direct and shortest plane flights! We didn’t have to fly miles out of our way, extended airport layovers and arrive 24 hours later to get the best package price available.

With a last minute booking we were not expecting a spectacular room at the Renaissance Curacao, just hopping that the room was not in a noisy location. When we travel, we don’t spend a lot of time in the room, mostly sleep and shower. Our room at the Renaissance was a knock out! On the second floor with an ocean view, large balcony and top end appointments: bedding with duvet and multiple pillows; built-in mini refrigerator and large safe; freshly fabric upholstered sofa and desk chairs; desk area with extensive communication jacks for a variety of personal electronics; built-in dresser with large and ample storage drawers; closet with wooden hanger, ironing board and iron; bathroom had granite top, modern top end fixtures, ample supply of towels, two bathrobes, hair drier and selection of soap, shampoo, etc.; balcony with two chairs and cocktail table. The quality of the room’s finishes were amazing. The fit and workmanship of the room’s: painting, tile work, baseboards and casework were as we have never seen before. This was an extremely quiet room, even though it right across the hall from the onsite Starbucks shop. The entry door was extra heavy and designed to eliminate sound transmission.

The Renaissance has two outdoor pools, one saltwater the other freshwater. Both are located on the second level. The saltwater pool is very unique, with a sand beach including palm trees, built atop shops below on the lower level. The saltwater pool has infinity edge on the ocean side which is indistinguishable while sitting on the manmade beach. There are plenty of lounge chairs, towel service and thatched roof palapas for shade. There is walkup or served at lounge chair bar service at the pools. The pool bar uses substantial acrylic cocktail glasses and mugs. Food services is also available at the pools, both bar and food can be charged to rooms.

Since we did not use any of the Renaissance’s restaurants we cannot report on these or the onsite casino. There are an abundance of eateries within easy walking distance. Eating in Curacao is not cheap, even at the old open air market where many locals take their noontime meal. We did find one restaurant near by, the Anchor Waterfront Bar and Restaurant, with moderate prices and exquisitely prepared food.

Shopping seems to be what Curacao is all about. Every high end shop one can think of is in the Punda part of Willemstad, across the float pontoon bridge from the Renaissance.
The Renaissance is located in the Otrobanda part of Willemstad. If you are looking for better pricing, try shopping in Otrobanda, keep walking straight pass the floating bridge and turn left across from the ferry docks.

Hotel: This hotel is in a perfect location for walking into Willemstad. The hotel room was clean, the bed and pillows were comfortable and the washroom was spacious with nice soft towels. We had a fourth floor ocean view and enjoyed watching the cruise ships and freighters from our balcony. There isn't a natural beach, but rather a salt water infinity pool with sand as well as a small fresh water pool. Swimming in the pool and overlooking the ocean was spectacular, although it was windy.

Meals: we found excellent restaurants a short stroll away. The "Steak and Ribs" in the Riffort adjacent to the property was excellent, just under $100 for a fish dinner for 2 with wine. We also loved the restaurants on the waterfront terrace, across the bridge behind the Plaza hotel. We had an excellent dinner at Perla del Mar with beautiful outdoor water seating. We had a terrific lunch at the Grilling, and pizza at the small Italian restaurant. I would recommend all of these restaurants if you want to dine outside. Another pleasant spot was the Cafe Iguana, where we would have cappuccino in the morning, light lunch and mojitos at happy hour. This is a terrific spot for watching the freighters and the floating bridge open and close. The floating bridge at night is spectacular with the lights.

We chose this hotel as we wanted a change from the all inclusive resort. Walking on the floating bridge was our replacement for a beach. This was a great choice as there were lots of small shops (shoes) close by to wander through and the floating market (bananas). Breakfast buffet at the hotel is expensive ($26 per person), so if you like this you might want to consider including this option when you book the hotel and flight. Meals and drinks on the island are pricey. The hotel staff were very accommodating and friendly.

Room Tip: Ocean view is best from the fourth floor. Pool and Starbucks are accessed from the 2nd floor.

There is no question that if you want to stay in Willemstad that this is the place to be. From the moment we got there and they offered us free cold water to the ,moment the doorman put us in a cab to the airport the experience was great!! When we arrived we were able yo get an upgrade to a great suite for a fraction of the original price. in addition, We had a few special requests and they quickly helped us with them. The linens were soft and cozy, the shower was amazing with several shower heads and the whole feel of the room was plush. One little thing, it is silly of them not to allow you to use the "guest wi-fi" for free since it keeps popping up when you try to connect to all the other wi-fi that is available. i cant imagine anyone pays for it . because there is wifi by the Starbucks on the second floor,in the lobby and at the pool and By accident we found out that in the room you can sometimes also get free curacao wi-fi.

Room Tip: We had 336 which was an island view but we could also see the water and sunset.

We like being free-range tourists, so we wanted a place within walking distance of Willemstad - this was the right choice. Lots of restaurants and shops very close by, and lots of boats to watch.

The staff were very friendly and helpful, but we had some issues with house-keeping - no washcloths a couple of days, no bathmats one day - but overall no complaints about hygiene.

The in-house restaurants were okay, but nothing to write home about. The in-house Starbucks was very convenient for breakfast and quick email-checks. The only thing about the hotel that really annoyed us was the $15/day charge for Wi-Fi in the room - it's not uncommon, but it's so cheesy and unnecessary. The fake-beach pool was lovely, and the restaurant there had the best prices in the hotel.

General things to be aware of: smoking is allowed not only in the casinos, but in all outdoor areas including restaurants. About 3 days into our trip (after some rain the first day) the mosquitoes came out, and they made it a torment to be outside after dark. Bring long pants, socks etc, or lots of bug spray.

If you've never been to Curacao before and want to explore the city and island from a central base, the Renaissance is the place to do it. If you want to be a beach-lizard on the ocean every day, one of the more remote resorts is probably the place for you.

Room Tip: Book an ocean-view room! Better views from higher up.
