Nice historic hotel. Stayed in the Blues Wing with great views over the harbour. Nice relaxed ambience. Nothing hurried. Great small beaches. Island has some things worth exploring but there's not loads to do unless you at in to diving.

I had the opportunity to stay at Avila Beach Hotel a week and had the most wonderful experience. I was traveling with a dear friend from Italy that is an avid windsurfer and was looking forward to windsurfing in the Dutch Antilles since it is a windsurfing destination. We enjoyed all the amenities at the hotel. We enjoyed dinning at all the restaurants in the hotel as well as the quaint restaurants that are within walking distance of the Avila. The staff was very courteous and attentive to all our needs.

While visiting the different beaches the island has to offer my friend stepped on a sea urchin and was in excruciating pain upon our return to the hotel they summoned a physician from the local hospital to look at his foot. The physician was at the Avila in less than half an hour to look at my friends foot and provide him with topical medication and make sure there was no infection. I live in the United States and this type of private medical service, that did not cost us a penny, is unimaginable.

My overall experience at the Avila was Magnificent! I enjoyed the hotel, it's history and everything it had to offer. I will definitely return when I go back to Curacao.

Room Tip: I would choose the rooms facing the ocean and open the balcony doors to hear the waves crashing on t...

Every year we book a trip to a destination under the sun. This time KLM had a great offer with the Flyingblue miles in business class to Curacao.
After some research and advice, we came to this hotel.
When our queen Beatrix visits Curacao an indépendant country as part of the Kingdom of The Netherlands, the Avila hotel is her host.
So we went for the "royal" atmosphere.
What a mistake!
The quality of the food was terrible, almost everything was fried. The coffee was water with a color, like the beans flew over. Espresso was available but not included in the twenty dollar costing breakfast.
The staff looked and respond to you if you asked them something indecent asking for missing items or not functioning machines or equipment.
The front desk was badly organized and wrong informed, which resulted in arriving too late for the Jewish museum.
My advice concerning Avila Beach Hotel, Willemstad Curacao :
Stay away from there, if you want a good time and expect service in from a hotel in this category..

We thank the reviewer for taking the time to write his review – we treat every review as a learning experience to better our hotel and customer service.

We are surprised and disturbed by the faulty indications concerning the service encountered during this guest’s stay with us and truly regret not having lived up to expectations. We pride ourselves inproviding friendly, personal service to all our guests and we will discuss this matter with the staff as it stands in stark contrast to the numerous positive reviews we get on tripadvisor.com.
Unfortunately there is no incident report of a guest having spoken to a manager about similar complaints. Had this been done, we would have taken immediatecorrective as well as know who on our staff disappointed this guest.

We appreciate the fact that taste in food is a very subjective matter. One of the challenges as a hotel is to develop menus which appeal to as many guests as possible. The Avila Hotel has maintained a long-held reputation of having some of the best and freshest food available as a hotel on the island. This includes having the often imitated but never duplicated best recipe for our local “Keshi Yena” dish, a favorite on our menu for over 50 years! We are therefore mystified by broad claims that almost everything isfried and invite the readers of this management response to visit our website and download our menu PDFs and view the comprehensive selection of foods weoffer. These menus are updated on a continuous basis to address the feedback we get from our guests as well as new trends developing in the culinary world. With regards to the taste of the coffee served at breakfast, management did try the coffee and it was determined to not be up to standard and we taking corrective action.

Thank you again for your feedback – we’ve certainly learned from it and it will help us to provide the very best to future customers.

The Avila Beach Hotel is a nice hotel with a beatiful beach front area and pool. The hotel room could've used a coat of paint and a bit of dusting in the places that are rarely seen but noticeable if you inspect your hotel room. The staff was friendly. The hotel is a 10 minute walk from the downtown area with local shops and waterfront restaurants. The hotel is not secluded from the residential living on the island. So if you are looking to get away from "reality" you probably want to stay at the Hyatt Regency - far away. However, there was nothing wrong with the location of the hotel - meaning there were no security issues or feeling that security was required. It's just the local scene like any other urban area.
The great part of this vacation was having the beach, pool, and bars at your disposal. It was great for R&R.
I strongly recommend renting a car to travel to the beaches on the west side of the island and to travel at your liesure. We did take the local bus one day to and from the bowling alley with no problem, at a low cost.
I recommend eating at El Gaucho (they pick you up and drop you back at the hotel) for a great steak meal and for a great trip around the island, book Eric's ATV tours! A great time.

The Avila has fantastic views from their beaches. The beaches aren't large, but are absolutely beautiful. We were there in November and the beaches were never crowded. They also have several great amenities on site: a car rental desk, a tourism desk where you can sign up for activities, a pool, 3 small beaches, 5 different small restaurants and/or bars. The food at these establishments was generally pretty good. The rooms were fine. Our room had a frosted glass wall between the bedroom and bathroom which meant that the door didn't have a typical latch and would never close completely. The room's HVAC system also brought in smokey air at times. The service was a bit slow at times from the front desk and from the restaurants. Overall, we would recommend it based on the beaches, the quality of the food and the amenities. Just know that there are a few wrinkles.

Well its not luxury as advertised. Everything closes at midnight.... so i guess they want you to go out! The breakfast is good though but it cost $17.

I spent 5 nights at the hotel and loved every second. The room was clean and accommodating, not over the top but very functional with a cooktop, fridge and eating utensils.
Located 15 minutes walking distance from downtown Willemstad it was close to several very good restaurants (less than 5 min walking a very swanky outdoor beach lounge club and both a mini mart and supermarket.

The onsite food was good with a few different options ( restaurant, coffee shop and beach bar with hot food cooked to order) Themed dinners ever night and a fantastic Sunday brunch. Modern gym, spa (sauna, jacuzzi, mani/pedi/facials onsite) Pool and two fantastic coves for swimming.

Very friendly, very knowledgeable staff. We used taxis to get to further away spots and even used a chauffeur and driver for an afternoon of errands. Its a smaller property than the larger chains but you get such personalized service its worth it.

The Blues Lounge had the most amazing live bands we have ever heard. In my opinion, the prices were very reasonable and we didn't feel like we were getting ripped off for anything.
The grounds of the resort are gorgeous, very lush and in full bloom ( we were there Thanksgiving/2011) The Octagon museum is located on the resort as well.

Wired internet access in the rooms and very good wi-fi when out of your room for free. Lots of beach chairs and plenty options for lounging.

Room Tip: The Villas are enormous and a great value!!
