Love the place. Has a great atmosphere and very friendly people. Not so touristy-feeling. Private beach and very serene! One of my favourite places in the world!

also slow internet and no soundproofing to hallways. Some condensation from strong AC in tropical climate. Open air halls flood during low-season from rain.

Gorgeous flat screen tv should have more channels than perhaps 6-7 depending on whats working. Has bbc thank god.

Food is tsty but almost all seafood at either restaurant. and seriously for the price, no room service? Cafe is great but never open.

Views and water amazing, good snorkeling right off beach. However affiliated scuba center is not nearly as close as publicized and requires a taxi or bus. Possibly there is a litle shop next door but it doesn't book boat tours or anything. Also to downtown because neighborhood is not great, I wish they had free shuttle (again b/c you pay a lot for one of the new rooms) Anyways the downtown is more boring than I expected for one of the bigger cities in carribean.

Also lots of construction when I was there, which they did at early morning and not afternoon. Kind of annoying if you're on vacation

Great place overall, staff very amazing, these are just my complaints. For the money it is as good as you would expect.

We stayed at Avila hotel for five nights at the end of March. Compared to other Mega hotels such as Marriott and Hilton, Avila hotel definitely has an European flare. It is smaller, other guests are mostly Dutch, and definitely quieter, not much of the American-style all-inclusive vacation thing going on. We liked it very much for its classy atmosphere.
This hotel has a small beach attached to it, and the sunset is gorgeous. The front beach has reef where you can snorkel, and the reef here is better than other beaches recommended, such as Portmari. Tons of fish to watch. The hotel has a small bar, buffet once a week, and nice pool too. The fitness center here is the cleanest, the most modern one I have ever seen!
The only one downside is that it is about five or less minutes of driving to Punda, the city center, but we never found it a problem.

Been going to Curaçao for a whileand this was my first time at the Avila.
Could not have been better. Besided a very confortable, well furnished, modern and at the ame time a cozy room, the service is excellent everywhere. The optons for dining are great - in or outdoors - secnd option always better with a nice view and ocean breeze.
Modern, cozy, well located, great gastronomy & staff. Money value sure i worth it

i traveled with my sister on Feb 22 and stayed until the 27th our first arrival was met with a drink of some passion fruit , coming from northeastern U.S. it was quite a warm touch from our sweaty brows from the heat of the carribean sun. Its proximity to the downtown Willemstaad was within close distance that walking made it convenient whenever we searched for any thing we needed. We stayed at the blues wing versus what appeared or featured from the internet but our pad was apparently the "country appeal" and to our appeal we liked it even better as our backyard porch was facing the sea front , the ample sized bed , the fridge was stocked though found the bar too costly. I walked towards the other hotels towards mambo beach and overall found our hotel to be tastefully put together and overall much better for the money for all of its amenities in comparison, as our hotel seems relatively quieter, so R&R was far more an appeal they could market as one of its feature. we loved our stay at the hotel and in fact if we decide to come visit the island we intend to stay at the same hotel for the very same reasons. Spent a few nights here on first trip to Curacao. What I liked the most about the hotel was the room in the Octogan Wing. It's a comfortable, contemporary feel and liked having the mini fridge and coffee pot. Walk in shower was a nice change of pace for a hotel. The breakfast buffet, while not spectacular and $17 USD at that, was convenient. The beach area, while small, is nice - just used that area one afternoon. The fitness center is nice, how often can you look out on the sea while on the treadmill? We didn't have lunch or dinner here, so can't comment on the restaurants in the evening. Thursday night Jazz was a fun time. As others have said, more Dutch than American tourists here, but it's a fun change of pace at this hotel, traditional in many ways, with contemporary rooms. The employees were all pleasant. The hotel has a van that goes to Punda a couple of times a day which was convenient. The neighborhood, best description I can come up with is "faded grandeur". You can see renovation going on, and I'm confident the immediate area will be restored to it's former glory over time. It didn't feel unsafe walking to Punda (about 10 minutes or so) during the day, but no, wouldn't make that walk at night.
