“Rif Fort - A great place to spend some time”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 July 2014

We were in port as a part of our cruise. Our ship was docked at the Mega Pier and on the way to the swinging bridge, we walked through the Rif Fort. The old fort has been incorporated into a outdoor mall area with shops, restaurants, and bars.

On our way back to the ship, we stopped to spend some time at a sports bar to watch some World Cup Soccer games.

The area was very nice. You had wonderful views from the former fort walls.

There are public restrooms and we saw security personnel at various points.

“Upscale touristy shopping gateway with historic edge”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 July 2014

As we exited the cruise ship, this was basically what we had to pass through to get to the bridge, Punda and Otrobanda areas. Which wasn't bad. It was very nice and clean. However, even for as modern as it was, I happened to like the historical aspect of it. Great atmosphere! Would've liked to tour the little museum they had but we ran out of time.

I did take advantage of picking up some souvenirs since I hadn't really had a chance to browse in the Punda area shops. There was a couple of places I'd have liked to eat if we'd stayed longer. The coffee and sweets looked divine. I saw a lot of fellow cruisers indulging in some tasty looking treats. Nice place to spend some time off the ship. Also, as was the case more in town, NO hagglers or hawkers. Nice!

Nice place, appears to be maintained by the Renaissance property which makes it first class. Nice place to walk around and check out the views of Punda & Fort Amsterdam.
